Wilderness First-Aid CertificationView MessagesRequired Items “I just received a call from the PEEC. Anyone taking this course will need to bring the following items: sleeping bag, water bottle, hiking boots, rain gear, and clothing appropriate for March weather. A segment of the course will be facilitated outdoors and they want everyone to stay warm. Anyone coming to the cabin will need the items listed above plus a towel and personal hygiene kit. AND ENOUGH BREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 4:15:14 PM 2/25/04 We're gonna be busy “I just the itinerary in the mail. Wow, is this a busy weekend. Cool. What cracks me up is that the typed soap in all caps and in bold. Geez, how bad do they think we'll smell??” 8:14:27 PM 3/02/04 “My "wilderness" first aid was held in a classroom, and was just basic first aid with the twist that you couldn't call or run and get help. We spent all day inside :(” 8:54:34 PM 3/02/04 “Sounds like fun!” 5:10:47 AM 3/03/04 “I'm signed up” 8:41:37 PM 3/03/04 “looks like we'll have to triple the alcohol order. Calmy is coming. ;o)” 8:47:01 PM 3/03/04 “Yep..LOL Pennsy.......Who else is going?” 8:53:45 PM 3/03/04 “NJpacker, Must Hike (I think), and AmyG is going to be one of the instructors. I think Adventurist is stopping by NJpacker's cabin to socialize even though I told him NO.” 9:05:27 PM 3/03/04 “Cool, never met AmyG or adventurist........why did you tell him no?” 9:12:15 PM 3/03/04 “tss, my friend just got a job with the red cross and told me they had a wilderness first aid class last month. I guess on a test basis. They want to see how many people would sign up. I hope it wasn't the last one, because this would be local and I really want to get it done.” 9:33:30 PM 3/03/04 “Because he is the dorkiest TTer of them all...thats why.” 10:12:36 PM 3/03/04 “calmy - you coming this weekend to the pine barrens?” 10:16:20 PM 3/03/04 “I'd love to go but I have a show that saturday, if it wasn't for that I'd be there with bells on” 11:49:12 PM 3/03/04 “So, is anyone else taking this course besides NJpacker and myself? Mike, I'll see you Friday night at the PEEC. What is your beverage of choice for the cabin?” 7:59:42 PM 3/10/04 “Yeah, I'll be there” 9:10:42 PM 3/10/04 “KEWL! You staying at Mike's cabin also?” 9:15:46 PM 3/10/04 “Hmmm......not sure...I'll stop by though, I don't live to far from Bushkill” 9:20:39 PM 3/10/04 “I *think* I'll be there. ;p I am still not sure about lodging though...they seem to not be sure up there either! hmmm...maybe I'll come by and shack up with you boys. >;D” 4:50:20 AM 3/11/04 “Hey guys and AmyG...I assumed everyone was staying at PEEC. After getting my letter from them and looking at the itinerary, I decided to call PEEC and make arrangements to stay there. I didn't want to be left out of the fun!! Doesn't really matter..we can still head to the cabin for some brews. If we find the living arrangements at PEEC are askew, you are all more than welcome to crash at the cabin for the weekend. See you on Friday afternoon. By the way, brew of choice...wet and cold !! Beggars are never choosey!! BWAaaaaaaaa!!” 11:47:45 AM 3/11/04 “I will not be taking the course. I’m going to California on Sunday.” 5:34:48 PM 3/11/04 “Pennsy...see you at PEEC Friday night. Calmwater3...you're welcome to stay instead of heading home. AmyG and anyone else..offer stands. Rich..how bout you get my certification and I go to California for ya!! Have a great trip. Hope to hike with ya' later this spring.” 7:14:35 PM 3/11/04 “Amy called me today and is looking for a place to stay so I invited her to crash at your cabin. I didn't know you arranged lodging at the PEEC so I hope this doesn't screw you up. I'll pick up some refreshments on the way. See ya there!” 8:06:32 PM 3/11/04 “Pennsy...no, doesn't screw me up at all. I only paid for the course. I called today asked if I could stay if needed and they said yes. I just figured everyone was staying at PEEC since I received no replies. Staying at the cabin will be better anyway. See ya' tomorrow afternoon.” 8:18:14 PM 3/11/04 “NJpacker, Calmwater3, and myself took the course this weekend and we all passed the certification test. Woohoo! All we need now are some TT bodies to practice on. Volunteers? It was a very good course and our very own AmyG did an outstanding job as an instructor. She was supposed to be an assitant but she pretty much took over the class. Super job Amy and thanks! Thanks to NJpacker for putting us up in his cabin Fri and Sat nights.” 6:44:39 PM 3/14/04 “Cool. Glad you had a great time! Sorry I couldn't be there... :-(” 7:03:30 PM 3/14/04 “A huge thank you to NJpacker and his bro for their wonderful hospitality. Your cabin rocks! It was great to meet NJ and Calmwater. I felt like I knew them already and we all had a great time (too bad Pennsy was along though). ;p This was the first time teaching this particular class, so there were a few...umm...interesting obstacles. I was told that there were "about 15 or so" students enrolled, but there ended up being 27 friggin people! Just one of many surprises. It all turned out well and everyone passed the exam...so, hopefully ya'll learned something. Now, go out there and I've got a few pics from the class...somehow calmwater eluded my view...hmmmm Wilderness First Aid” 8:35:24 PM 3/14/04 “Wow, five whole pictures! It took me hours to look through them. I like the idea of an emergency shelter, but I somehow get the idea that if Pennsy got stranded, he break out three or four tents and spend the afternoon deciding which one to set up! Geez, that AmyG is the cutest wilderness rescuer I've ever known. Someday, I'll have to fall off a cliff or break a bone or something just so she can save me!!! p.s. Where was Dare?” 9:01:41 PM 3/14/04 “Cool pics AmyG, you did an awesome job, now I know who to ask for advice on first aid issues LOL, NJpacker thanx again for the cabin, it was good to see Pennsy "the bald guy" again LOL” 10:17:36 PM 3/14/04 “cool pics! love the one with pennsy under the shelter. I expect him to build and sleep in one of those at ithaca!” 10:33:29 PM 3/14/04 “AmyG, thanks so for all of your shared knowledge. Most of the class would not have enjoyed the class without your presence. Please remember to send info about the basics. Thanks, hope to see you and Dare at the Thunderswamp. John, thanks for your CD. I listened all the way home. Fantastic!! Good luck with the recording deal. Hope to see you also at the Thunderswamp. I owe you a pepsi can stove. Bruce, as always, it was good to spend time with you. You didn't really need to worry about big guy (David). I had your back!! LMAO. Hope you can make the Thunderswamp. If not, I'm sure we'll get out later in the year. To all TT'ers, this course is most definitely worth the money, time and effort. You should think about attending a course. As a side note, for anyone living in the NE, try to get enrolled in a class given by AmyG...she rocks!!” 12:06:30 PM 3/15/04 “NJ, when's that hike gonna be set up near your cabin?” 12:22:09 PM 3/15/04 “Was it hard to tell the people from the "frigging people"? The forest from the trees? The freaks from the geeks? The wheat from the chaff? The posers from the hosers?” 3:00:23 PM 3/15/04 “Hey Bobo - I actually did have a chuckle when told to make an emergency shelter. I think Amy would have clobbered me if I popped out the Bibler. Jersey boy - May 1-2 isn't good for me if those are the dates for Thunderswamp. I'm going on a Catskills trip that weekend. Don't change the date around me because I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunties for us to hook up there.” 5:52:09 PM 3/15/04 “Boy I sure am going to feel a lot safer hiking with you guys now. As it turned out I didn’t go to California, but that’s the way work goes sometimes.” 5:53:02 PM 3/15/04 “I appreciate the positive feedback, guys. Once I got over the ummm...rather large obstacle...I actually enjoyed teaching the class. In the future, I won't be teaching such a large group though...I felt like it limited our hands on time too much. I really would have liked to get outside more for scenarios and such. They are a lot of fun to run through, with group members alternating roles (leader, helper, victim). I'll definitely be doing more classes in the area...I've got one scheduled in April already. I also have the class offered next semester at NCCC. NJpacker - my e-mail is AmyG@backpacker.com (send me an E, since I don't have yours) Kleety, why don't you invite me out to Seattle for an all-expense-paid teaching assignment in your area?! ;p” 7:17:50 PM 3/15/04 “Very cool pictures and sounds like great information to have in case of a mishap on the trail. That little homemade debris hut looks like just the thing for ultralight hiking. It looks like real livesaver in an emergency, though. You crawl in there wearing a garbage bag stuffed with leaves for warmth, right.” 7:44:55 PM 3/15/04 “NJpacker - my e-mail is AmyG@backpacker.com (send me an E, since I don't have yours) Yeah, like you'll actually reply! Watch out, NJpacker, it's a cruel hoax. Once she has your credit card info, you're done for.” 8:53:36 AM 3/16/04 “Yeah, like you'll actually reply! Watch out, NJpacker, it's a cruel hoax. Once she has your credit card info, you're done for kleetn...not to worry. AmyG could do no more damage with the card than my wife has done already !!LMAO............” 12:54:03 PM 3/16/04 “NJpacker...methinks you underestimate me. moohahahahahaaaaa >;D” 8:12:10 AM 3/17/04
