“The new points system sucks. Jimmie Johnson was way ahead of Busch in points (296) and they just adjusted everything so he was within 30 points of the lead with 10 races left? If they didn't hand out such a liberal # of points every race they might be able to keep things closer without fudging the numbers at the end of the season.”

“Ok, I'm getting old. I've been a NASCAR fan since I was ten years old...ummm...like for the past 31 years. NASCAR has gone downhill for the fans since the mid 1990's. I don't go to races anymore and barely keep up with who wins. Marketing has warped the sport to the point that drivers can't race, and fans can't enjoy the sport without be bombarded with advertisements. We keep hearing that the sport is still growing and hasn't peaked yet...but...the real truth is in the grandstands. Except for several high profile races, the stands have empty seats. They've had to move to new market areas with new tracks to capture more fan base, and at many tracks they've lowered prices. So what? Right? The sport has definitely sold itself out to the sponsors and us "old" fans don't care for it. NASCAR is doing well and I'm glad for that, but I won't be supporting it like in the past. Now with that said...

I've been a Dale Jarret fan since before anyone knew who he was...I hope he does well next weekend!

Can't agree with your assessment though, the racing last year was much better than it had been for several years before and I didn't see many empty seats. I just hope the new spoiler rule doesn't change things too much.”

Nascar is running restrictor plates while these guys are enduring more g forces and higher speeds. It's hilarious how fans will defend a sport that doesn't even compete.”

Nascar also races roadcourses, and I don't see champ car or F1 drivers racing at Bristol or Richmond, certainly massive tests of a driver's skill. When's the last time an open wheel driver won IROC?...

There's a reason Nascar has much better attendance and ratings, it better racing.

“LOL, you know I meant NASCAR cannot compete with the other series. Also, they only drive 2 road courses a year. To be fair, CART is only racing 2 boring ovals. I disagree about the NASCAR short track being a testament to skill though. These races are the ones I do not watch because I cannot stand to see these guys run 80 - 90 MPH around a track with too many drivers on it. That's like watching rush hour traffic on I-75 through Cincinnati. NASCAR's appeal started when it was true "stock car" racing on the speedway. When CART is on a speedway though they put NASCAR to shame. The average speed of NASCAR at Milwaukee is around 104 while CART runs an average 137. If racing is hard on the body then these guys are pushing limits most NASCAR drivers could ever dream of. NASCAR is nothing more than a marketing gimmick for the major car manufacturers to showcase the latest car, even though it's no longer the true "stock car" racing as it was meant to be.”
