WInter Hiking Boots? “Tis Chilly and my Scarpa's are not up to -10'F... :( Can anyone suggest some winter hiking boots? CHeers” 8:17:05 AM 2/17/04 “We got some boots from Beans last year, lined with Primaloft. Bloody hot boots they are. It's gotta be some cold for me to wear em. Generally, I wear my Crestas (also by Beans). What is important to me is keeping my feet from sweating. If I can keep em dry, I can keep em plenty warm. So basically, I need good socks. I often put on fresh ones at the start of any outdoor winter adventure, skiing, skating, etc...” 4:28:20 PM 2/17/04 “I've got a pair of Rocky boots with thinsulate that I use in real cold hiking, but I can't handle much insulation in a boot as my feet get warm quickly even in uninsulated boots.” 5:23:06 PM 2/17/04 “Sorel's, have a couple diff versions & have found them great. If it's REALLY cold, no boot alone will suffice. In that case, you can get those chemical toe-warmers that last for 7 hours. They are shaped to fit in the toe of your boot, and one side has adhesive so they stick to your boot & don't slide around. I used them during a very cold campout in the Sierra a couple weeks ago, everyone BUT ME!! had cold toes!” 5:27:13 PM 2/17/04 “My feeties have been toasty warm in my leather Scarpas down to minus 20. I wear the same socks as I do for any outdoor adventure year round - mountaineering weight smartwool. The only time they've ever been even slighty cold was this past weekend when I put on wet boots after a "we don't need no stinkin' snowshoes!" knee/thigh deep snow hike - but like wanderer said, I had toe warmers if I needed them.” 5:32:19 PM 2/17/04 “Before I had Scarpas, I wore my LLB crestas in winter.” 5:33:48 PM 2/17/04
