I missed this thread until now. I met Pedxing at Campmor the same time that Artex met him. He was shopping with Ellen. I thought that he was a very nice person. I really hope that he heals superfast and that his sons find peace with what has happened. A fund and collection will be very good since there are so many things that medical and home insurance don't cover these days.

OK, I read some of bacpac's comments on the other board. I can't believe anyone could be that uncompassionate!

My best wishes for a full and painless recovery.

What great news. Any decrease in the amount of assistance in breathing is great!

I will be looking for the account and clothing info to come.

I love how people come together when a friend (or a stranger) needs help. So thanks everyone for being great.

Hi everyone. I just received an e-mail from Ellen that I will post below. I will also post this on a couple of the other Pedxing threads so that all will see it. It gives information on how/where to donate to David.

"I spoke to a very kind accountant who happily gave me advice for free. He said I should go ahead and set up a savings account on behalf of David, and so if anyone is so inclined, they can send checks to David at 15 Beech Street, Cambridge, MA 02140. Whatever is not used I am expecting will be donated to the Burn Unit at Mass General Hospital, but that will be for David to decide once he is talking.

As for his prognosis, I am not going to give daily updates since this really is a roller coaster ride and whomever one speaks to causes more grief or less, more hope or less. Simply put, he is "touch and go" until he is out of the ICU, the duration of which cannot be predicted. This from his surgeon, one of the best in the country.

I wish I could leave you with some positive news about David's health. I spoke with a local reporter about what a hero he is. She asked if I was surprised; I said no.

Thanks again for all your concern and support.

Ellen"

Bottom line- anyone that would like to make contributions should make them payable to David Vogel and send them to:

David Vogel
15 Beech Street
Cambridge, MA 02140

However you send positive energy to another person and their family, whether it be through thoughts, prayers, chants...whatever...keep them going.

I just saw this thread. I haven't met pedxing, but I know his name and looked at the links posted and read about what a good person he is. I am honored to join in with the positive thoughts and prayers. I have faith that his strength will help him to overcome the hurdles on the way to recovery.

I can finally think of a few things to say. (Imagine, me, speechless).

Pedxing is a good guy, a gentle soul, and a compassionate man. It really sucks that this kind of thing happens to such a good man.

He didn't deserve this. There are others, however......

We are here for you man. Whatever we can do, we'll do. When you are feeling up to it, expect some of us to trickle in at different times to warm your spirit.

more news fron David's sister...
I got an update this morning...

[I learned something about what happened in the fire. I wondered why David hadn't gone around to get Ellen's son Jacob and his friend from the back
door, the way the three left the house. Turns out it was bolted from the inside, and David knew he couldn't find the key right away. Also, Jacob had never used that door, so didn't even know to use it.

It also turns out the
boys were awake, watching smoke come in the room through the top of their door, screaming for their mom (who couldn't hear them) - but they'd been
educated enough about fire that they knew to crawl, and to put sheets over their faces to breathe. So that's what they were doing when David burst
through the door, hair aflame. David had gone briefly downstairs when he
saw the fire had gotten out of control, to Ellen to call 911, but he knew
the only way to the boys was through the fire, now grown even more. So
that's where he went.

Ellen says he almost went back in *again,* injured as
he was (and is), to rescue Gorgi, his devoted and wonderful dog, until they
found Gorgi was already outside.

There's supposed to be an article in the Cambridge Chronicle about the fire
tomorrow.

Thanks for all your caring. Every day he's stable or better gives us more
hope. Still, it will be close to 2 months, it sounds like, before he's out
of the woods.]

She also said that David seems to be more and more stable as the days pass.

good news.

David is truly a hero.

We may think we would act heroically in the face of danger, but we never really know unless we are faced with it. Often people submit to their fears and they surprise themselves. pedxing was fearless in the face of ultimate danger, to sacrifice his own well being and even his own life for the sake of others. pedxing is a proven hero, a man of courage, and a man of honor and I have the utmost personal respect for him. My continued prayers for a full and speedy recovery are with him and his family.

True courage is a rarity, especially at the very moment it is most needed. Pedxing is the exception, and an exceptional spirit.

May God be with him and his family.

Amy - thanks again for the update - so very happy to hear that he continues to improve daily...

when I was 11 years old we had a house fire - my dad was severely burned on both arms - he had to go to TX to a burn unit for several months and received skin grafts....in the meantime family, friends, and strangers helped Mom and I...one of the biggest aides was when the community got together to help put the house back together again...

how do you think a TT rebuilding/cleaning, etc.. would go over?
