Need help with Leather, non steel shank boot. “I am looking to replace my hiking boots. They have the steel shanks and I don't want that type of boot. I have been on the internet seeking these types of boots, but, it is a big wide boot world out there. Any of you know of some brands and styles that I can consider? I need to get a new pair by next month. Leather uppers...waterproof, but no dang steel shanks” 4:44:37 PM 2/17/04 “Geeeeee, they'll let ANYbody in this place.” 4:48:06 PM 2/17/04 “HPM, my husband, has all leather shoes and a polymer shank instead of steel. I'll ask him about them a little later.” 4:52:24 PM 2/17/04 I love ya, too, Tilt... “even miss ya! But, do ya know anything about non-steel shanked boots?” 4:54:33 PM 2/17/04 “Well........ I had a pair of LL Bean Woodman's Boots a few years ago that had plastic shanks. Unfortunately, they didn't "spring back" with each step like steel shanked boots normally do, and they killed my arches until I installed some seriously stiff insoles. Ha! (I know almost nothing about nearly everything, remember? LOL)” 5:03:27 PM 2/17/04 thanks treebait, I “appreciate you getting back to me, here. Thanks Tilt. Was not aware that those steel shanks would give me a "spring action."” 5:13:33 PM 2/17/04 “I could be way wrong, but I always thought that's what they were there for (?) Those LL Beans weren't really designed for hiking, I don't think. They were more like hunting boots.” 5:18:03 PM 2/17/04 Hunting? “what were you hunting for?” 6:49:10 PM 2/17/04 “Usually hunting for a trailhead at 2 in the morning, LOL” 8:35:20 PM 2/17/04
