The ex-squeeze and I had a talk. I'm trying to figure out a way to (of course) have it all. I want to stay single for a couple of weeks at least. We were supposed to go to a B&B for X-country ski-ing over March break, but I registered for the yurt week-end with the Alpine Club and reserved a night at the Club refuge in Keene to finish the 46. I'll register as a 'maybe' for this one.

Jeez, makes ya think, don't it? Do you remember AmyG at FYAO saying that when we read about shyte happening in the out of doors she always thinks it could be a TTer? We even talked about Ped. I sure hope he'll pull through.

Gremlin...well, gee! Here I thought you were too lit that night to remember my ramblings. :o)

I truly do hate to think of any of my TT family members getting lost on the trail or injured or whatever...but it is especially saddening, in this case, because Ped and I were friends. We had hiked together many times and enjoyed many profound conversations...you know the ones that stay with you forever? He is quite a special person.

Dare and I are in for hiking at least part of this trail for David. He will probably be pi$$ed when he sees how great the interest in this trip is now...
sheesh, the things a guys gotta do to get a good turnout

I'm in for a long weekend on the Long Trail. Lets make it a good weekend maybe Friday to Monday 40 plus miles!

Hmmmm... I loved Vermont when I drove through. I've been wanting to go back. I wonder if I could pull off a long weekend in August.

It's a long shot right now. But, I'll keep my eyes on this thread. If The Thing (a la Artex, lol) works out the way I'd like it to, I may be unemployed for part or all of August and wanting to play a bit...

I have three-day weekends all summer.

Those of us who go can coordinate the shuttling of cars along the Long Trail.

We can play a game of relay.

The person who starts can carry some "thing" and they can hand it off when they are done.

Maybe a bag of dirt from just over the Canadian border?

Or a special rock?
(A really BIG one)
MarkO

I have 2 weekends in August free. HIKE MAINE III takes up the other two.

I'll help with shuttles and do some hiking on the other two weekends.

I like the relay idea - something we can give David after the hike.

Yes!

A magic rock....or something.

How about a trail journal that gets passed along?

I like the relay idea, also. We could use something that David would prize as our baton. This is sounding better all the time.

sounds like a great idea
I'm going to do the Jonesville to Canada section of the LT starting on July 17 . . . so maybe I could start this thing off. It would be really neat to sign the all the shelter registers on behalf of David.

If anyone would need any trail info for the Jonesville and south section of the LT let me know. I'd like to help with this as much as I can . . . from Indiana.

all great ideas - journal, magic rock (I like rocks :) and signing the trail register in his name.

Wonder if we could find some journals with take apart bindings - then when we get back we could insert some photo pages - just prints from our digital cameras, nothing fancy. Or is that too complicated?

A separate webshots account could be opened with the user id and password shared between the participants so all pics could be posted in one album for everyone to see.

this sounds like a great idea. A trail journal with pics would be a great read for Ped, while he is recovering. I would also like to put together a scrapbook afterwards...

My Summer schedule will include many 3-day weekends also!!! I'll have every other Monday completely off! This is looking good for some great section hiking.

Yeah, I was thinking a notebook in a ziplock to be passed along.

...and of course a special rock and a gnarly piece of wood.
MarkO

2/20/04

I'm so into this idea. I really like the notebook/journal. There are so many very eloquent writeres on this board (pedxing most definitely included) that it would end up being an amazing read.

Even if my "thing" doesn't work out, I'll still do my best to commit myself to a long weekend.

Now, you've got me confused, jer... lol! Nobody is seein' nobody and nobody is gettin' pissed... unless Buddha Bear is seeing Artex and you're pissed? hehe

So.... back to this trip. Will somebody be taking charge? Will somebody be posting specific locations for specific weekends?

We need a map with an overview of the The Long Trail and all the east-west highways to give us some idea of possible segments.

I'm looking at my Vermont Atlas and Gazetteer......

The following are east/west road crossings.

Brandon Gap is about ten miles west of Rochester(Route 100) on Route 73.

Twelve miles north on the trail is Middlebury Gap on Route 125, 8-10 miles west of Route 100.

About sixteen more miles north takes us to Lincoln Gap 5-6 miles west of Route 100 and the village of Warren on a lesser highway.

Another dozen or so miles to Route 17 just 6-7 miles west of Waitsfield and Route 100.

Camels Hump is another 13 miles north with the next highway crossing another 8-9 miles more.

And that takes us to I-89/Rt 2.

This is the part I am somewhat familiar with.

Hi All:

I just read the posting and if you folks can put up with me I'd love to tag along especially if I could meet up with twigeater. However, I've got a serious transportation problem. Anyone comming up from central Connecticut interested offering a ride around the time twigeater will be around? Willing to help with gas expenses.

I really would like to hike part of this one too. I know I can't do all of it, but if I am lucky I may could do 5 days. (depends on how long summer vacation will be, and if the kids are at grandma)
