The Butterfly Effect

“We went to the movies last weekend, basically to get out of the house for a few hours.

The choices were pretty slim, but I liked the premise of the Butterfly Effect. It is a scientific theory I had studied back in school. It was a long time ago.....

I explained the theory to SB and we hemmed and hawed for a while. After all, it was an Ashton Kutcher movie, you know, Demi Moore's boy toy, a real cutesy guy. We were worried that this movie would play to his cutesy stuff..... We decided to watch it. There were not too many people in the theater.

At the start of the movie is a quote of the Chaos theory, or butterfly effect. I forget how it goes, but it is basically that in Japan, a butterfly flaps its wings as it lands on a branch, disturbing the local wind patterns, until eventually, it is the cause of a typhoon out in the ocean.

What happens is the star of the movie is in a messed up relationship with friends or family throughout the movie. He has the ability to go back in time and change things to improve the current situation. But the twist is always the butterfly effect. A relationship with someone else he cares for always goes awry, because of things he set in motion. Eventually, at the end, he straightens out everything, by giving up the one he loves, and all is well, and they all lived happily ever after!!!

Anyways, it was a pretty good movie, kept us in it thru the whole movie. As with any fantasy movie, you have to buy into the fantasy, and it was pretty easy to buy into it. A well choreographed movie. It'll never be a blockbuster, but it will while away the afternoon for you.”
