And I don't think you could denigrate his military record any more than saying that his military record adds up to aiding the enemy.

Now that the Guard is seeing some serious action, I wonder how many politicians' sons are jumping ahead in the line to get in? I'm sure they'd be welcomed with open arms.

Chuck Hagel is talking about the draft again.

Treebeard, get with it man, protesting any war "aids" any enemy.

That, of course, is the fascist line.

I'm more concerned about what I think he would do if he got to be president. And that's just plain scary."

Yeah, he might throw a monkey wrench into the Military/Industrial/Congressional Complex.

As I said in the post you quoted. I'm not concerned about Kerry's military record. Maybe he deserved the medals, maybe he didn't (I prefer to think he deserved them), I am disturbed that he then chose to disgraced that military service by his behavior after he got home, and now seems to find it necessary to remind everyone that he was in Vietnam.

And again, I have more of a problem with his liberal views and voting record today that I do with his record 20-30 years ago.

But fortunately I don't have to vote against him because I will be fortunate enough to be able to vote for President Bush. you folks seem to be a lot more interested in destroying President Bush than proclaiming you support and admiration FOR that other guy. I find that interesting.

Do you, then, think it's fair for Bush to ream him on his paid ads for voting for a 50 cent gas tax increase in 1994, knowing that that was yesterday's news and that circumstances may have changed tenfold since then?

I am disturbed that he then chose to disgraced that military service by his behavior after he got home, and now seems to find it necessary to remind everyone that he was in Vietnam.

Lots of people protested that war, myself included and for good reason. And it did not go d0own in history as much of an accomplishment on the part of America. Millions of pro-war people reversed their standing as that war dragged on and the body bags came in faster than money flows into a televangelist's pocket. Robert McNamara was one of the biggest war hawks going back then and, upon examining his feelings about what America was doing there, ordered the writing of the Pentagon Papers. And, as for a soldier getting a little introspective of what he experienced in a jungle halfway around the world, don't be so callous as to say that he was aiding the enemy because his consience told him that this was wrong. You have no right in the f_ing world to make that assessment. Reminding everyone that was in Vietnam? Well, his service WAS in Vietnam, and the issue is about his service! What do you expect?

Kerry didn't disgrace his military service after he got home.

He had the guts to stand up and tell the truth about that war.

It was because of people like him that tragedy was finally ended.

What, no credit to President Nixon who withdrew from Vietnam ??

I think his 8 point plan actually accomplished the withdrawal, not John Kerry's or Jane Fonda's protests.

I don't think anyone ever credited the protesters with ending the war. That would be ridiculous. I also think that, at that point in time, the realization that this was not going to be a success was all too apparent. Yes, Nixon brought us out. But, the war had to end and probably should have a lot sooner...

Nixon's plans included approximately 25,000 American boys killed in 1969.

That number was roughly equivalent to the total number killed in the years until 1969.

Nixon withdrew because of pressure by the American people.

He would not have cut off the military/industial/congressional gravy train without it.

Kerry and the other Democrats (including you, Violin, MarkO, laqtis, ...) have been taking cheap shots at the President since Nov. 2000. He has only recently (last month or so) begun firing back. So far he has kept it reasonably dignified (at least compared to what we has been receiving). It's amazing they take all these cheap shots, based on what they wish was true for all this time, and the get a handful of mild shots in return and they get pissed. Oh, well.

War Records Don't Win Elections
A terrible candidate for President, George McGovern had such an incredibly heroic war record that author Stephen Ambrose wrote the best seller about McGovern's military career entitled, The Wild Blue. Another terrible candidated for President, William Clinton didn't let his draft dodging days keep him from being elected President. Vote against Kerry because he would be bad for this country.

A ten year old vote on a gas tax that is irrelevant to anything current, as the center piece of a multi-million dollar ad campaign, is dignified? I hate to tell you this, but your own words keep digging you a deeper hole.

Prosecutor, my point exactly.

TB, Probably not as dignified as you'd like, but certainly much more dignified and much more truthful that the attacks on Bush. Maybe the candidates should also have a section in their ads that say "Hi, I'm Treebeard and I approve of this ad". I'll suggest that to my congressman and see if we can get that arranged.

Very funny for a guy that hasn't cleared up one contradiction in any of the instances you stuck your foot in your mouth today.

And seriously, if it's dignity you want in an election, either build a time machine and set it for the past, because mudslinging is the method of choice for ALL of them now. Like it or not, get used to it. And prepare yourself for one of the filthiest of all coming your way at a theater near you!

You are right, I made that assumption. I was following the old philosophy "If it walks like a duck, and it talks like it duck, it probably is a duck". If you aren't a duck, I apologize. I can certainly see why a person would not want to admin being a Democrat.

Come to think of it, I guess I didn't see you walk, did I?
