polls released to day indicate if an election were held today both Kerry and Edwards would beat Bush. That is music to my ears.

Yup. Now there is every reason to vote for Edwards instead of Kerry.

POLITIKUL VEWS FROM A DERN REDNECK
I am not a huge Bush supporter...Let me repeat, I am NOT a huge Bush supporter. Having said that I would like to hear some other opinions about the following beliefs that I hold:
1. Liberal organizations such as PETA, the ACLU, etc. cause too many problems. I am a high school teacher and we are not allowed Christmas Holidays anymore because of a letter our school board received from the ACLU. We now celebrate Winter Holiday at the end of December! Give me a break.

2. Gun control. I have no desire to own an assault rifle, but it is nice to know that if I needed one, it is legal. Would Kerry fight for these rights?

3. Roe vs. Wade. I know, I know...as a man I can't really say what is right for a woman..but I know what feels right in my soul. I have had four 15 year old students inform me that they have had an abortion. Two of them have never told their parents. That just doesn't feel right. Wonder what Kerry would say to those girls when they are 30 years old and still traumatized?

4. Same sex marriages. Why do Democrats feel it should be a right when the lates polls show that anywhere from 55-75% of the american public do not agree with same sex marriages? I thought this was a government by the people...

5, War in Iraq. Maybe Bush was wrong.I don't know all the facts. But I do know that his job is to protect the people of this country. If he felt we were in danger, then he has an obligation to protect us the best way he knows how. The democrats gave us bosnia, Somolia, Bush gives us Iraq. Is one any more right than the other?

These are some meanderings of a southern baptist, southern redneck.
Ps. If you ever want to rile a PETA member, ask them how many annelids, arachnids, insects, bacteria, and protists they unethically treat when they mow their lawn....

RebelYell!

I have to say that I agree with much of your post. I live in a rural area of Michigan and think that there is probably a "rural sensibility" in the country rather than just a "Southern sensibility."

Hunting is a big thing around here. Some of the biggest bucks in Michigan are shot in our hometown swamps. Guns are a great environmental tool. We've got lots of pro-gun Democrats around here.

I have big questions about abortion, too. I tend to think that parental consent and bans on partial birth abortions are good things.

I've seesawed on the gay marriage thing, and support it now because of conversations with some gay friends of mine. However, neither Kerry nor Edwards support gay marriage.

There is no comparison between Bosnia/Somalia and Iraq. The first two were easy to get out of and Bosnia was pretty successful. Iraq is a long-term project that followed a very SUCCESSFUL sanctions regime that could have lasted for a long time.

I have three reasons to vote Democratic this year.

1) One half TRILLION dollars. That is the deficit for next year alone. As bad as Clinton was, he didn't spend money like the Republicans are.

2) 250,000 and 160,000. The first is the total number of jobs lost in my home state of Michigan under Bush. The second is the number of those that WERE high paying industrial/factory jobs.

3) Balance of Power. It is best not to let one party control all of government. Bad things happen. Republicans currently control everything. Balance the Power.

We can take the mindless rantings of the ACLU and PETA. We can't take four more years of Bush.

Bush is no more protecting the american public than the NRA is protecting guns or the ACLU is protecting human rights. They all become balled up in special interest and complications and, all in all, become mostly useless.
All are far too large ( Yes,the US government too) and their shear size renders them so bulky they can't move from their cozy beds.

Polls
The early Polls showed Bush beating Gore handily, and he ended up losing the popular vote. New poll by Zogby shows Bush would win the Red(states he won in 00) states by a large margin, so he'd still be re-elected.

But as usual it's a long way to November.

John Kerry. War Hero…

On March 13, 1969, a mine detonated near Kerry's boat, slighting wounding Kerry in the right arm. He was awarded his third Purple Heart.

After his third Purple Heart Kerry requested to be sent home. Navy rules, he pointed out, allowed a thrice-wounded soldier to return to the United States immediately.

What were the extent of his wounds?

“When later asked about the severity of the wounds, Kerry said that one of them cost him about two days of service, and that the other two did not interrupt his duty. "Walking wounded," as Kerry put it.”

Who is John Kerry?

hubcap swiping - If he's near redskin stadium it might not be a bad idea. It will give him something to do after games while sitting in 5 lanes of parked vehicles on the beltway.

The Bush administration didn't cause or assist in the dismantling of Enron, Worldcom or any other company. The market and the bankruptcy courst took care of it.

On How Many Threads did YebelRell post that copy&paste?

Troll behavior.

FERC inadvertantly killed ENRON. They were so overextended, the only way to stay afloat was by gouging customers in California and swallowing up smaller energy companies. When FERC finally stepped into the California situation, ENRON's goose was cooked.

The question for me is.... why didn't Bush direct FERC to take action sooner?

Tell you what, Bison When the punishments doled out to these leeches starts to fit the crimes (barring the few token examples that get punished), I will see some validity in the S-O act...

You'll see it
But it will take awhile, I don't see anyway of getting around the fact that these guys have money to spend on the best lawyers, so this stuff get dragged out for a good long time. Andy Fastow got 10 years. Of course these guys aren't covered by Sarbanes-Oxley.

He got 10 years and i will bet my bottom dollar he doesn't serve nearly all of it. What sort of facility is he in. For ruining that many people's lives, he should be getting it up the wazoo for being such a disgrace to the human race. What about the 5 months his wife got? Oh, sorry, she has to take care of the f-ing kids! Freaking joke, my friend! I'll believe it when I see some real justice meted out...

Hey nashvillehiker, take a look at Brookland, D.C.

That's just east the the railroad/subway tracks and Catholic University......around 12th St between Lawrence St and South Dakota Ave., N.E.

I lived in that part of the city when I was a kid and its still holding up pretty well without being as expensive as N.W.

When did you live there? I wont go East of 9th, NW unless I'm in my car! Excluding Eastern Market.

Nash - Please note - I am paranoid and I walk home after the bars close. This is always in my mind when looking for places to live. I did almost get mugged in my 'hood one night.

bear, my family moved out of Brookland in '62.

In '99 I found that one of the neighbors was still across the street from where we lived.

I hadn't seen him and his wife in 37 years.

The area of Providence Hospital(12th & Varnum to Taylor) seems OK.
The houses around there are nice.
