Republican Declares His Independence
Republican Declares His Independence
By Robert L. Black
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Wednesday 13 October 2004

When in the course of a lifetime, it becomes necessary for a born
Republican to refuse to support the re-election of the party's incumbent
president, to exercise his discretion, and in all good conscience, to
vote for an opponent (even a Democrat), a decent respect to the opinions
of his fellows requires that he declare the causes that impel him to switch.

I am grateful to the Republican Party for the support it gave me on
each of three elections as judge. I respect many of the party leaders in
Ohio. Nevertheless, my loyalty to the party must give way to my love of
this country. I consider it a patriotic duty to speak up when the future
of our democracy is at stake.

It is self-evident that everyone has certain unalienable rights
endowed by the Creator, and that among these are the right to his/her
own conscience and the right to pursue his/her sense of justice.
Whenever in the field of politics the party to which he has belonged,
and that party's president, become destructive of his vision of what is
not only right and fair but also good for our future, it is his duty to
call the tune as he hears it. When that future is endangered by the
present policies of the administration, it is time to act. The record of
this incumbent president is a history not only of repeated violations of
the key principles underlying our democracy, but of the core values of
the Christian faith to which he claims commitment. Let his actions be
stated candidly.

He has taken us into a pre-emptive war, misleading the country by
alleging without qualification that there was an immediate threat to our
safety. No weapons of mass destruction have been found despite the
president's unconditional declarations that he had to pre-empt Saddam
Hussein's use of weapons of mass destruction.

He engaged in this war without any workable plan to win the peace.
While the ultimate outcome of this adventure is unknown, the loss of
human life and the imposition of human suffering weigh heavily against us.

The effect of this adventure is to solidify the deadly opposition of
radical Muslim extremists, who are currently leading of the Muslim
world. He has exacerbated a dangerous confrontation, a conflict of
religious dimensions.

The result of the arrogant way the war was handled is that the
president has alienated our long-established allies: and it will take
decades to re-establish friendly working relations with these other powers.

He acted unilaterally in pulling the nation from international
treaties designed to move toward a more livable and a more just world,
such as the Kyoto Treaty and the treaty creating the World Court of Law.

At the same time, he has cut the taxes owed by the richest 1 percent
or 2 percent of the population, giving meaningless decreases for all the
rest, and with no resulting benefit to the job market or the economy. He
has presided over the largest loss of jobs since the Great Depression.

He has appointed or sought to appoint to the federal judiciary persons
who hold extreme right-wing views, views that are driven by political
bias and that ignore established legal precedent. (He threatens to
appoint such a person to the Supreme Court.)

He has ignored or denied widely accepted scientific findings. For
example, with respect to stem cell research, captured by a religious
minority, he limited this research to a degree that radically restricts
research leading to benefits for hundreds of thousands of persons
subject to major disabilities and early death.

He has re-emphasized abortion as a political issue, when it is a
purely personal decision for the woman.

He has allowed an increase in the number and type of media
organizations any one company can acquire, thus permitting a further
concentration of power over the news.

He has again and again reversed the regulations and policies designed
to protect the environment, always adopting a policy that favors those
manufacturers and industrialists whose actions have clearly fouled the
air and water. He pushes for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge and throughout northern Alaska. He is allowing the logging of our
national parks. He ignores scientific findings that the world is being
subjected to a warming climate change that is man-made and that could
otherwise be forestalled or radically slowed down.

He has adopted or proposed regulations that endanger the safety of
persons, when a Republican two-house legislature will not act in his
favor. His regulations would prevent the release to the public of car
safety information, such as warranty claims, consumer complaints and
individual rights on safety issues; he would relax the rule on allowable
coal dust in mines; he would eliminate the rule requiring employers to
keep records of employees' ergonomics injuries; he has cut 77 personnel
from the staff of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; he
has raised the allowable mercury content in the air.

I am, as American citizens ought to be, free to express my deeply held
convictions, derived from my conscience and sense of justice, and to
vote for candidates who in my opinion will act in the best interests of
the country. In this, as in other life actions, my prayer is I am in
line with the will of God.

Just as I had suspected. The “liberals” here don’t want to think about the fact that they have no ethics when it comes to economic issues.

“We’ve already discussed this”

“I don’t want to think about it”

“I don’t have time to post”

“I’m going to ignore the question and hope it goes away.”

On economic issues, most “liberals” have the moral conscience of thieves.

Ask a simple question…

How do I reach the following conclusion:

 I can ethically justify that my ideas help society

 I can ethically justify that I do not have the personal wealth to implement my ideas that help society.

 Therefore I can ethically justify that I can use government to force others to provide their personal wealth to implement my ideas that help society.

…and the “liberals” scatter like roaches when the lights go on.

John Kerry and his followers (like all tax and spend “liberals”) have no moral conscience when it comes to stealing money to further their visions. “Liberals” keep proving that by their inability to rationally analyze their dogma. It appears as if envy and jealousy are the motivators for their “if it feels good do it” economic policies.

A spin that says conservatives are more ethical with money than liberals is a fscinating bit of psychology, especially in the era of Enron and Tyco.

Let’s see whom we’ve got for the usual suspects:

First we’ve got Buddha who says that this issue has been discussed before.

1. I have never asked those questions before. So why is Buddha reluctant to explain to someone who is curious? This is a rather rude response when someone asks a question.
2. If Buddha has already had a discussion about how he ethically rationalizes the forced redistribution of wealth through taxation, then it ought to be pretty simple to copy and paste those views right here. It appears as if Buddha has no desire to be helpful unless he is forced by government.

Then we’ve got Phaedrus. Phaedrus may have diminished capacity, because has never made any logical sense. Although I have never met a moron (excuse me, “mentally challenged person”) who has the arrogant conviction that his ideas were important after repeated examples to the contrary. A moron has the mental capacity of a child between 8-12 years of age. Even a child of this age knows when he is in over his head. Clearly, Phaedrus is clueless that he is incapable of intelligent discussion with someone who has at least a high school diploma and an IQ of 100.

This is a person who claims to have read the book Bias. This is a book in which the author accurately conveys the “unintentional” bias of Dan Rather. During our discussion, Phaedrus discounted the idea of “liberal” media. But he provided no credible evidence for his point of view. We now have additional proof of that bias in the form of Rather’s most recent transgression, when he (along with his producer) got caught doing an unprofessionally biased report on the President. And STILL Phaedrus thinks the idea of “liberal” media is a myth. Moron or drunk, you decide.

I suspect that Phaedrus is either drunk or stoned on drugs when he posts. It is not my intention to be rude, but I am being blunt. It is simply true that it is a waste of everyone’s time to respond to a drunk who repeatedly acts as if he is witty, funny, or intelligent when he is incapable of meaningful discussion.

Then we have violin. I had a wonderful discussion with violin once. He shared some valuable information. Since then he has mostly been “prairie dogging” with insulting or inflammatory one-liners. He cuts and posts other people’s thoughts while sharing none of his own. With the exception of when he wants to be insulting.

I’ve seen the ban violin thread and at first thought it a joke. But I’m coming to see that violin doesn’t share much of his own meaningful thought or add much to a discussion …pity.

Last but not least we have Dunadan. Dunadan was not only polite by answering my question, but he had the courage to try to tackle a difficult ethical question. Then he bailed for the weekend. Thank you for trying, Dunadan. Maybe you’d like to respond again after you’ve given the question some thought.

Haha! Arclite once again confuses lack of interest in tedious discussion of Arclite's personal delusions with a lack of evidence of them.

Again, my contention was and is that there may or may not be a right or left slant to the overall media (Arclite's definition of media seems to include everything from CNN to the billboard next to the crackhouse he visits on fridays), but there is not enough evidence one way or the other to make that determination. That doesn't stop him from sweeping and hasty generalizations, though! He'll want to dredge up some article or five from newspapers and point out how liberal they are. Great. Wonderful. You win, because I'm not wasting my time arguing the slant of your perception of the article, nor dredging up five articles of obvious slant the other direction. It's about as pointless a discussion as is possible to have.

A good analogy would be someone who had a pathological belief that the vast majority of all tulips are red. Unless you can take a survey of all the tulips in the world, you're not convincing him different. Even if you had such a survey, he'd scream that you were a red-tulip-lover like the rest of "them"! By the way, he considers most shades of orange and pink to be red as well. He hates red.

You get the point. Cult leader. nuff said.

Lexus

A woman bought a new Lexus LS400, and returned the next day, complaining
that she couldn't figure out how the radio worked. The salesman explained
that the radio was voice activated.

"Watch this!" he said..."Nelson!"

The radio replied, "Ricky or Willie?"

"Willie!" he continued....and "On The Road Again" came from the speakers.

The woman drove away happy, and for the next few days, every time she'd say,
"Beethoven," she'd get beautiful classical music, and if she said, "Beatles!" she'd get one of their awesome songs.

One day, a couple ran a red light and nearly creamed her new car, but she swerved in time to avoid them.

"A$$HOLES!" she yelled.

John Kerry came on and introduced the French National Anthem, sung by the Dixie Chicks...

Subject: Presidential Resume
Subject: Presidential Resume

JOB APPLICATION

NAME: John Kerry

RESIDENCE: 7 mansions, including Washington, DC, worth multimillions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

LAW ENFORCEMENT:

I voted to cut every law enforcement, CIA and defense bill in my career as a US Senator. I ordered Boston to remove a fire hydrant which I considered unsightly, in front of my mansion, thereby endangering my neighbors in the event of fire.

MILITARY:

I used three minor injuries to get an early discharge from the military and service in Vietnam (as documented by the attending doctor). I then returned to the US, joined Jane Fonda in protesting the war, and insulted returning Vietnam vets, claiming they committed atrocities and were baby killers. I threw my medals, ribbons, or something away in protest. Or did I? My book; "Vietnam Veterans Against the War: The New Soldier" shows how I truly feel about the military.

I deplore the military!

COLLEGE:

I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. Unlike my counterpart George Bush, I have no higher education and did not get admitted to Harvard nor graduate with an M.B.A

PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:

I ran for US Congress and have been there ever since. I have no real world experience except that of a gigolo, by marrying rich women and running HJ Heinz vicariously through my wife Teresa.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

As a US Senator I set the record for the most liberal voting record, exceeding even Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton. I have consistently failed to support our military and CIA by voting against budgets, thus gutting our country's ability to defend itself. Although I voted for the Iraq War, now I am against it and refuse to admit that I voted for it. I voted for every liberal piece of legislation. I have no plan to help this country but I intend to raise taxes significantly if I am elected.

My wealth so far exceeds that of my counterpart, George Bush, that he will never catch up. I make no or little charitable contributions and have never agreed to pay any voluntary excess taxes in MA, despite family wealth in excess of $700 million.

I (we) own 28 manufacturing plants (Heinz) outside of the US in places like Asia, Mexico and Europe. We can make more profit from the cheaper cost of labor in those countries, although I blame George Bush for sending all of the jobs out of Country.

Although I claim to be in favor of alternative energy sources, Ted Kennedy and I oppose windmills off Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard as it might spoil our view of the ocean as we cruise on our yachts.

PERSONAL

I ride a Serotta Bike.

My Gulfstream V Jet I call The Flying Squirrel.

I call my $850,000 42-foot Hinckley twin diesel yacht the "Scarmouche."

I am fascinated by rap and hip-hop and feel it reflects our real culture.

I own several "Large" SUVs including one parked at my Nantucket summer mansion, though I am against large polluting inefficient vehicles and blame George Bush for the energy problems.

PLEASE CONSIDER MY EXPERIENCE WHEN VOTING IN 2004.

Libel and slander laws apply to the Internets too, don't they?

There are more inaccuracies and smears in that post than I care to counter manuka. Just a couple of quickies: Kerry received high marks at Yale and earned a JD from Boston College. Teresa Heinz Kerry disbursed over $4.6 million through the Heinz Family Foundation last year (her occupation, as listed on her tax return, is ‘philanthropist’) and John Kerry reported charitable contributions of $43,735 last year.

From Russian President V. Putin:

"I believe that the
activities of terrorists in Iraq are not as much aimed at the coalition
as at President Bush personally. The goal of international terrorism is
to prevent the election of President Bush to a second term. If they
achieve that goal, then they will of course celebrate it as a victory
... over America and, to a certain extent, over the forces of the
international antiterrorism coalition."

The WOT is a misnomer. The war is against militant Islamofascism. Obviously it's impossible to eliminate a battle tactic. Unfortunately, it's exceedingly difficult to kill an ideology. So, no, phaedrus. We can reduce terrorism to an "acceptable" level and hunt and kill Islamofascists. But time is going to win the war. Lots of time.
