New Mexico hike....CHEAP?

“I need to get away from the -20F... Anyone have a suggestion on a great 4-5 day hike in NM? I don't want to see another person for all 5 days... Just rocks, blue sky and an occasional lizard!

Any suggestions?”

Many of the good places are under snow and even the desert places are cold and can be windy right now. The Gila can be nice in March if you don't mind nights around freezing. A storm could make it wet and cold, though. Days can be sunny and warm. It also doesn't get as much use early in the season. Somebody also has a trip planned to Bandelier in March, check the trip page.”

“For instance the ABQ weather forecast for this weekend (around 5,000 ft) calls for highs in the low to mid 40's and rain moving through. Above 7 or 8,000 ft it will be snow. The Gila could get snow, but usually melts off withing a day or two in the canyons.”
