Is it still possible to sneak into Fort Washington in the wee hours? Will the geese be on their migration north? Any good places for crab feasts still around?” 9:20:27 PM 2/19/04 “Baltimore is the place to go for crabs!!!! Go to Gibbies in Timonium.” 9:46:03 PM 2/19/04 “woo hoo! sounds like a DC drinkathon is in order.” 8:17:45 AM 2/20/04 “Might have to come down for that... ...being that Pathie doesn't look like he's going to be up here soon.” 8:19:31 AM 2/20/04 “see, i knew if i just bided my time, all you kooky TTers would just come to me!” 8:26:09 AM 2/20/04 “I bet I come to NYC again, before you come to ABQ. ;-)” 8:26:13 AM 2/20/04 you may be right “Ok, you come up and I pay for drinks all night at the "Back Fence"!” 8:27:46 AM 2/20/04 “Then again, if we pull off this Arizona trip later in the year, we may run a close race here...” 8:29:09 AM 2/20/04 “treebeard, I may have to build my tolerance up to do that. LOL. I also have some old HS friends in the area. I don't keep up with them very well.” 8:30:57 AM 2/20/04 “Seriously, I would like to see you and D.C. isn't all THAT far! So, if schedules permit, I may venture down for an overnighter...” 8:32:00 AM 2/20/04 “the memories. I don't think the Wax Museum is at 4th and K NW anymore. I used to work in the gift shop. Scary part of town. Scarier still is that I learned to drive in DC, the burbs and on the beltway.” 8:33:06 AM 2/20/04 “Hello? DC? I'm still not sure any of you Easterners exist!” 8:33:46 AM 2/20/04 “LMAO @ bearmagnet!! there's a supposedly cool Spy Museum i've been wanting to check out.” 8:34:59 AM 2/20/04 “I love that museum! Sucks you have to pay, though. Anytime you want to go, give me a call. That is, if you want company, and you exist. BTW - I want to do the cheesiest thing in DC but so far no one is willing to do it, afraid of image and all that: I want to take a tour on a DC Duck! You know, those amphibious tour mobiles that come in and out of the potomac? It looks so freakin assinine I've got to try it! After a few drinks, of course. :)” 8:47:49 AM 2/20/04 “assinine is my middle name, baby.” 8:57:13 AM 2/20/04 “You have nine asses?” 8:57:47 AM 2/20/04 “Oh lyra - the trouble we could get into! I wonder if we could fill up a Duck with TT people?” 9:00:09 AM 2/20/04 I'm In >:^] “Cat o nine tails? They have Ducks in Boston, now D.C.??? Treebeard, I saw Leslie West at the Wax Museum in '82.” 10:38:34 AM 2/20/04 “Remember to check out 'The Great Fatsby'. Great album, Mark-O!” 10:48:26 AM 2/20/04 “DC has had Ducks as long as I've been here - '99” 11:06:49 AM 2/20/04 “Now, I was really hoping for a hike! I'll check the details of my schedule when I get it.” 11:09:31 AM 2/20/04 “i vant to go!” 11:13:13 AM 2/20/04 “Hike in DC??? That can be dangerous! Bring a gun but be warned - packing is illegal.” 11:14:20 AM 2/20/04 “all the more reason to do it” 11:15:06 AM 2/20/04 “bring your stromboli & calzones for use as barter” 11:16:18 AM 2/20/04 Hike in DC “That could be fun. You could run through town rip-roaring drink, and if anyone asks, just tell them you're a politician.” 11:17:53 AM 2/20/04 “heh, heh. I had a gun pulled on me outside the Wax Museum. We were out back breaking down boxes for the trash, guy came running around the corner. He was startled when he saw us and pulled a gun. When he realized we were just a couple of white kids cutting up boxes, he stuffed it back in his pants and kept running. Winos used to always come in during slow times and fall asleep. I still remember Max the manager with a thick Czech accent rousting them out.” 11:18:54 AM 2/20/04 “Wax Museum is where?” 11:25:19 AM 2/20/04 “Not to be one to invite myself, being a newbie and all, but I'd love to tag along on a hike or two around here, hopefully way outside the city limits!” 11:34:08 AM 2/20/04 “The Wax Museum used to be at 4th and K NW. Now it is a vacant lot, or redeveloped. Wax Museum Property, 2001” 11:49:35 AM 2/20/04 “Hey, treebeard. If we get together we can retake our pics, minus the guts. LOL.” 11:50:23 AM 2/20/04 “Lol, all the more incentive to make it so, my friend!” 11:51:28 AM 2/20/04 “Wow. You were here a long time ago, aye?” 11:58:01 AM 2/20/04 “Friendly SHS, Oxon Hill, MD. 1971-1973” 12:07:28 PM 2/20/04 “bear, I left the area in '87. A Duck ride would be nice. The Cherry Blossoms might be out.....ya never know.” 2:23:52 PM 2/20/04 “71-73? I thought I was old! Mark - '87 pretty scary in DC? DC Ducks and cherry blossoms - that's almost too much!” 2:38:46 PM 2/20/04 “Scary in D.C.? Yeah, Reagan was president and he kept threatening the dang Russians and their evil empire. Occasionally I would imagine those nuts nuking the city. I'm glad they worked it out. That first weekend in April could be magic........or it could be cold and rainy......let's do it.” 2:47:09 PM 2/20/04 “Yikes! You had Reagan I have anthrax/ricin, code orange (Security and air quality!), GWB.” 2:50:18 PM 2/20/04 “"Baltimore is the place to go for crabs!!!! Go to Gibbies in Timonium." nashvillehiker 09:46:03 PM I live a few miles from Timonium in Towson and I don't know of Gibbies. Of Course, I don't eat crabs!” 3:06:00 PM 2/20/04 “Scary in DC? You forget what was happening at the time I was there. Can you say "Watergate"?” 5:05:47 PM 2/20/04 “Y'all had the "fun" history. I have to deal with people buying gas masks, plastic sheeting, and bottled water! Wait? Is this Cold War II????” 5:10:17 PM 2/20/04 “Fun? Ha! I learned to crawl under my school desk in the event of a nuclear attack. They didn't teach us how to kiss our asses goodbye. Cub Scout trips to the local Civil Defense shelter where we they showed us Geiger Counters, food and water stores. I never understood how we would get there.” 9:31:37 AM 2/21/04 “You guys are not old--by 1973 I had three school age kids. Treebeard--I missed the discussion about an Arizona trip--what's up?” 10:31:01 AM 2/21/04 “In '73 I was a letter carrier. May '73 was my first little backing trip.” 12:14:10 PM 2/21/04 “March '73 was my first BP, in Shenandoah NP, as a high school senior.” 1:12:52 PM 2/21/04 “I spent four nights stompin' around in the area of Big Schloss/Wolf Gap/Sugar Knob. That is in the GWNF near Wardensville, WVa.” 7:50:10 PM 2/21/04 “Pathman, you beat me by two months.” 2:16:00 PM 2/22/04 “I just realized MarkO is an old regular with a name change. I have to firm the trip up this week. It is tempting to do some Urban Hiking when I am free, see the sites again. Its been a long time since I've been back. Any good hikes around the Chesapeake? I'd go for the Falls of the Potomac, too.” 7:54:20 AM 2/23/04 “Treebeard--I missed the discussion about an Arizona trip--what's up?" MaryPhyl 10:31:01 AM Sorry, MP! I just caught up with the threads as it was a busy weekend. We went eagle and owl spotting upstate NY this weekend and I haven't caught up with this since Friday. The situation is as follows: Last year, I drove down with one of my best friends to Phoenix for a X-country jaunt as he was taking a professorship at ASU. Mple and the kids are very fond of him too. So, we were planning to visit him and stay at his house for the week. Now, in and around that we were looking to get together with some TTer's also. I had discussed this with Pathman and we were trying to putsomething together that would work for all of us. There really is no 'cohesive' plan yet, by any means. But, the reality of it happening is pretty positive. I would love for all of us to get together and Maple and I would love to meet you. What part of AZ are you in? I will be sure to update when we start to carve the plans in stone.” 8:03:22 AM 2/23/04 “Great Falls on the Potomac is pretty, but on weekends its a mob scene.” 8:06:12 AM 2/23/04
