It was in Rodney Dangerfield's movie, Back to School” 3:45:45 PM 3/18/04 “9 to 5 with Dolly Parton.” 3:45:47 PM 3/18/04 “i dunno but my quote was from kevin spacey - and nobody beats ol' kevy. he friggin rocks.” 3:45:48 PM 3/18/04 “well, this has been fun, but it's time to go home -yawn/stretch - i work too hard.” 3:50:15 PM 3/18/04 “"Cliff notes: this Spong guy is not very familiar with the Bible and why Gibson made this movie." Buck" "this spong guy" is an episcopalian bishop but dont let that get in the way of your worship of saint mel” 7:01:10 PM 3/18/04 “"As I was saying before about "tolerance" and liberals... HA HA HA HA HA!!!" Buck oh, and btw, the "you liberals are so intolerant" schtick is no longer ironic or clever. its just another way of saying "if you dont let me persist in my closed-mindedness, YOURE closed-minded" "When it comes to Mel and his message, read what the libs say about it on the threads. They aren't being very "tolerant" about his views and his movie" why dont you try addressing points those horrible libs make instead of just making blanket statements that are neither provable or unprovable. criticizing and taking issues with someones view is not the same as being intolerant.” 7:07:07 PM 3/18/04 The Passion Of The Buddur “So a little while ago I'm playing the jews harp and just twangin' away when I looked at my phlucking finger and there was blood on it. Wha'da'fa? And the harp even had a bunch on it. My first impression was that the reed sliced my finger, but upon closer inspection I realized where the blood was coming from. I went and looked in a mirror and sure enough, it was my mouth. Ended up being my lip. And I saw "The Passion..." last night. Could it be an omen?” 7:26:23 PM 3/18/04 “the stigmata of buddur” 7:58:29 PM 3/18/04 10:21:24 AM 3/19/04 “oh, and btw, the "you liberals are so intolerant" schtick is no longer ironic or clever. its just another way of saying "if you dont let me persist in my closed-mindedness, YOURE closed-minded Naw. Libs are just as intolerant as anyone else despite what they say. why dont you try addressing points those horrible libs make instead of just making blanket statements that are neither provable or unprovable. criticizing and taking issues with someones view is not the same as being intolerant. StormBringer, I think we've already spoken volumes in other threads about this? Shall I just provide a link to the Passion threads? I just assumed you had read those. But again, I'm okay with you thinking I'm intolerant, but you don't seem to be tolerant that I think you're intolerant. That's okay with me.” 11:05:48 AM 3/19/04 “Mutt - it was from the Usual Suspects!” 11:48:01 AM 3/19/04 “I saw The Passion yesterday with my SS class. Pretty fitting for Palm Sunday. My thoughts are pretty jumbled about the whole thing. 1. The scourging scene was brutal, but that was probably a pretty typical beating incident at that period of time. That was a pretty dramatic example of cruelty for the sake of cruelty. I guess the closest example I can think of would be some of the stories of concentration camp guards. Some of those incidents were born out of hatred and others were simply being cruel over someone that you feel you have power over. Don't they say that absolute power corrupts absolutely. 2. The contrast on the flashbacks was pretty powerful. You'd see the bloody Jesus, it would flashback to the Sermon on the Mount, for example, and you'd see the bright shining Jesus full of love. 3. They showed Pilate as a milktoast. Doubt that was how he was. 4. I'll reread, but do the Gospels show Pilate sending Jesus to Herod for Herod's judgement. I just don't recall reading that. 5. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment. The cruxifiction scene was atop 500' cliffs. Those Romans enjoyed some blood. I believe I'd rather take a plunge off the cliffs. 6. How many times do you have to show Jesus dropping like a bag of rocks while carrying the cross? 2 or 3 would have gotten the point across. I think 10 or so just got cliche. 7. The exchange between Jesus and Satan in the Garden of Gethsemane was interesting. It was portrayed as a natural human reaction to having to go through something awful. That's it for now. I'm still a bit numb and will probably post more thoughts later.” 10:01:54 AM 4/05/04 “The South Park take on "The Passion" was hysterical.” 10:06:07 AM 4/05/04 “I learned vitually all I know about the Mormons from South Park. And now the Passion. They should make it part of the school curriculum!” 10:13:11 AM 4/05/04 “Amen, ymani!” 10:16:52 AM 4/05/04 “I'm waiting for some nice fundie to slip a copy in my door when it comes out on dvd. LOL! Now that some time has passed I have not heard of a single act of violence towards Jews brought about by the viewing of the movie. I have heard several stories about criminals seeing the movie and then going to the police and confessing to their crimes though. One guy walk into the station and admitted to killing a young girl. Thanks for trip report day hiker. I always look forward to hearing your point of view.” 10:18:02 AM 4/05/04 “THat's good news NiGaL. And let's hope Mel doesn't lose his mind.” 10:20:49 AM 4/05/04 “Oh, forgot to tell ya DH. I heard Mel is planning on doing a movie about the Macabees.” 10:23:26 AM 4/05/04 “Is that some wild Scottish clan?” 10:24:34 AM 4/05/04 “Nigal - where do the llamas fit into Mel's movie?” 10:42:24 AM 4/05/04 “The Romans have them pulling their chariots.” 10:47:34 AM 4/05/04 “I'm not familiar with the Macabees? I felt hostility to the Romans, but not the Jews. Also, I'm reading a book right now about the theology of John Wesley. The last chapter of the book is on pluralism. I'm anxious to get to this chapter. That's a question that I'm uneasy about myself. BTW, this books def of pluralism is how are other faiths related to and dealt with within the Christian faith.” 10:50:30 AM 4/05/04 “Oh, I thought Lamas (sp) were Tibetan Priests. Om Manee Padme Hum But I guess that has something to do with religion and is therefore banned, except as an introduction to an Indiana Jones movie.” 10:51:47 AM 4/05/04 “"I'm not familiar with the Macabees?" The Macabees were a small group that kicked the Roman's a$$es while being outnumbered some 10 to 1. After they kicked them out they rededicated the Temple and only had enough oil to burn for a few days but it burned for the full 8 anyhow. It's the story of Hunickah. I think his version will be based on the Apocrefil(SP?) Catholic book of Macabees.” 2:02:17 PM 4/05/04 “Interesting. I knew about a battle an oil burning for 8 days being the foundation for Hunickah (never seen that spelling before), but I didn't know the sect was called the Macabees. Sure sounds Irish or Scottish doesn't it.” 2:13:44 PM 4/05/04 “Ya never know what kind of spelling you'll get out of me. LOL! I found a site that gives the Maccabees story.... http://www.bibarch.com/Perspectives/6.3F.htm” 2:22:10 PM 4/05/04 “Thanks for the link. I thought maybe that was maybe a more traditional spelling instead of an Americanized one.” 2:33:01 PM 4/05/04 “So the MacCabees story is kinda like the Alamo only the Mexicans lost? They musta had Claymores and Berserkers.” 3:07:40 PM 4/05/04 “No MarkO, the Macabees held off a siege by the Romans for 2 - 3 years then committed mass suicide rather than surrender. More like a plot meld between the Alamo, Waco, with a Jonestown finish and casting Janet Reno as Santa Ana.” 3:14:54 PM 4/05/04 “Good story, manuka!! I'll get to work on the screen play!” 3:22:33 PM 4/05/04 “Oops, little historical inaccuracy there, Twas the Zealots who did the Masada suicide, The Maccabees were a little earlier. No mind, when has historical accuracy ever bothered Hollywood, carry on with the screenplay MarkO. Does Pamela Anderson look like a Jewish girl circa 100BC ? I mean they all had blonde hair and implants then right ??” 4:18:31 PM 4/05/04 “Anyone heard of the "Jesus Seminar" I heard one of their guys on NPR and followed up with some reading on the net. Pretty controversial stuff.” 5:48:24 PM 4/06/04 “Yeah, they are on the fringe and most of the fundies don't even call them christian.” 6:47:04 PM 4/06/04 “Considering what all they say Jesus didn't say or do, do they call themselves Christian? I found all this research, but no conclusions.” 6:56:38 AM 4/07/04 “I think the divinity issue is their biggest bone of contention.” 8:18:55 AM 4/07/04 “ ”10:05:57 AM 1/03/08 “...of the antichrist? (LOL)” 10:07:05 AM 1/03/08 “Edwards: (hmmm.....now how am I supposed to do this?)” 10:07:26 AM 1/03/08 “LOL..nah the wife is thinking...the last person he kissed he bumped his nose and Sued...” 2:20:01 PM 1/03/08 Jump to Page << prev
