World record Snotsicle
I was going to keep my pride in this matter private and close to my heart, but since I've had the opportunity to read the content of other threads I have concluded that "taste" need not be a consideration.

A few weeks ago, much colder than it is now, I went out for an afternoon ski, taking with me my usual winter runny nose. Being new to this sport I have become totally focused while "zipping" through the ski trails and so am oblivious to many occurences that others might pay cursory respect to. Like the beauty of the snowy wooded landscapes and,...er....my runny nose. I believe I first noticed the developing snotsicle after it travelled through my mustache and was beginning to dangle from it. Being a very competetive person I instantly wondered exactly how long I could get this natural wonder to grow before I finished up the tour. Soon it was past my mouth (I resisted the temptation to lick it...well, maybe only a little) and as the miles flew by I found myself forcing snot and air out through my nose in order to accelerate it's majestic development. When I got back to my truck I measured it and was the proud owner of 2 four and one-eighth inch perfectly symmetrical snotsicles christmasely dangling from my "stache". I was going to contact Guiness Book of World Records, but realizing that I have neither photo or coroborration (although many will attest that I am "capable" of attempting something like that)I decided to keep the matter personal until now. I have done a little research in the matter and have discovered that people from Minnesota just lick their lips periodically (no discipline), people from Illinois suck it up (nasal-retentive) and people from Michigan break them off and save them in their freezers for a sunny day. In Wisconsin, however, we proudly grow frozen snotsicles. Anyone beat (pun) four and one-eighth inches?

Kinda like in Dumb & Dumber when they got to Aspen and got off the scooter. They were froze together and they had snot cycles.

Congrats on you achievment Snake Eyes.

Sounds like you have WAY too much time on your hands. You definately need to get out more . . . like out of Wisconson.

LOL!

That certainly sounds like one advantage to living in the south.

Would that be a stalagsnot or stalacsnot?

I guess since it originates deep within the bowels of my nasal cavity (if indeed they have "bowels") and descends in the direction of my lip (and darting tongue), it is a stalacsnot. I suppose if the point of origin was, say, my lower lip and it grew upward into my nose, it would be a stalagsnot. The logical extrapolation of this thought process is that it would penetrate my brain and kill me. The question begging to be asked is how would the coroner know what killed me, only finding me laying on the floor with blood, cerebrospinal fluid and melted snot running from my nose? Any answers out there?

It's cold enough to make snotsicles again. Anyone (other than Lyra) up to the task?

of coarse without photographic evidence, any claim to a world record is unconfirmed and therefore invalid....

Strat, that was three years ago and it no longer dangles from my nose. The snotcicles currently reside in a place of honor in my freezer. I'm uncertain that a photograph of the evidence once detached from my nose would be valid.

upon further review, the call on the field stands.......no world record....

You do however qualify for an honorable mention the in Boone & Crockett Booger Club

If you properly orchestrate a country blow, snotcicles shouldn't a problem.

Snotcicles aren't a problem, they're the goal. That's why people up here snowshoe and ski:)

Sorry, roseymonster, that's not quite the way it works. In the north woods of Wisconsin and in Minnesota, the nose runs throughout the winter until about the second week of Spring.

How fast can a nose run?
nowslimmer

I'd try it since it is technically cold enough here but I'm afraid that I myself might freeze right along with the boogers seeing as how it didn't get above 20degrees all day here and the wind chill makes it feel like five degrees, and at night it gets to about 5-10 below zero these days

Good ol' global warming right?!?!?

It was -22 this morning and not higher than 3 above all day. Great snotsicle weather. I don't know that much about global warming, but when I was a kid in the 50's and 60's, January weather would range from -20f to -50f without the windchill, so it is getting warmer:)

It's a little known fact, that uhhmm.....
Mucophagy (literally mucus-eating, also referred as picking one’s nose and eating it) is the consumption of the nasal mucus, boogers, and other detritus obtained from nose-picking.

Some research suggests that mucophagy may be a natural and even healthy activity, which exposes the digestive system to bacteria accumulated in the mucus, thereby helping to strengthen the immune system.
