Bleach
Hey, I was just wondering if anyone out there knows if bleach really works as well to treat water, as bleach companies say it does?

Yes
I don't like using any chemicals to purify my water, but bleach does work. Many urban water co's put chlorine in their water supply. In rural area's (like mine) they pour gallons down the well pipe to clean long unused or suspect wells. My water comes up cold from 710 feet down but the pressure is crummy. Might get a pressure booster in the basement, as I don't want to increase the pressure from my $2,000 pump deep in the earth.

I've used it for wine and beer making when I was stuck. It works, but make sure you don't use a scented variety.

Don't use the thickened varieties of bleach either. They have added chemicals that will make you sick. Just use plain bleach.
