If at all possible, I'd like to join you when you do Santonini and Couchie next week to finish your ADK 46. Do you have any details yet?

It looks like bagging these 2 will be quite challenging according to this report from VFTT.

Wow, Pennsy, that would be fantastic. I had been planning to hike to Bradley Pond lean-to on the 4th, but since it's March break up here I can work it around your availability.

I'm booked into a Vermont yurt for the week-end, but I'm available any other time.

The trail (trail?) is a beeyatch and a storm ate my Jeep the last time I was down. We only managed Panther. To be honest (Canadian teachers cannot lie), I'd settle for just one of the three.

You're in Vermont the weekend of March 6-7?

I'd prefer a weekend so I wouldn't have to burn vacation days but this is a pretty big deal so a day or 2 off work would be doable.

If you go on the 4th, what is your bsic plan? Hike to the lean-to in the morning, set up camp and perhaps get one of the peaks that day, camp and get the other on Fri?

Is Jonywalker coming down? If you read the VFTT trail conditions, I doubt you would want to tackle this solo. Those spruce traps look nasty.

Yup, that's my plan. As I said, if I only do one, only one last one will be left. Judging by VFTT, quite a few people will be in their on the week-end and I'm hoping there'll be a packed trail to follow (and no Goddamned water).

This week-end there will be ten of us from the Alpine Club doing the FYAO thing, but in a yurt. The 2nd week-end is our rugby club's Captains' Dinner and rather a fancy do in Number 1's (Blazer c/w embroidered badge, grey flannels, club ties (mine is from Rugby club Massy [home of Orly aeroport]. I got to play against the psycho at the Montreal Irish International Rugby Tournament who was expelled from the tournament in the following match after he did his magic on me.)

Jnywlkr and I both broke our noses - that was where John reshaped his own all by himself.

Somehow, you 2 breaking your noses does not surprise me in the least. ;o) But I would have guessed they happened in a pub rather than on a rugby field.

Ok, so the following 2 weekends are out for you, right? If I take off Thurs the 4th and Fri the 5th, you WILL bag both peaks even if I have to drag you. I'll know hopefully by Friday if I can work those dates out, or Monday the latest. Your plans won't change if I go or don't go, right?

btw - I have your 8x10 and it looks great. I'll mail it tomorrow morning.

Don't get your butts kicked too badly by lil' Chouchie. She's technically not over 4000', but she most certainly climbs like she is.

Thanks a lot, Pennsy. No, I won't change my planes now - I'll be on the trail to Bradley Pond on the 4th because the thought of being dragged along a trail by Pennsy Hiker makes me, you know...

Oh no, the Quebec horn toad is acting up again.

What time do you figure on getting to Upper Works thurs? I see on VFTT that there will be a large group there this weekend. It would be great and they have good luck and break the trail for us, eh?

That's what I'm hoping. I'll be leaving from Keene and eating a doughnut and drinking coffee while driving. I hope to get there before 10:00.

Dunno. They always seemed over priced and clubby to me, but my post on the other thread was mostly tongue-in-cheek.

Right now I have a vintage (1950's) Ithaca model 37 and my 20 ga. is a pigeon grade Beretta ejector, single trigger side-by-side (English stock and full coverage engraving).

Gotta go, they'll be opening the beer fridge and putting out the peanuts in the staff room, this being Friday. Have a good week-end, everybody.

I won't have access to the net next week. I hope to post a couple of trip reports when I get back on the 8th.

I don't think I'll be able to make it. There's my high school rugby season and climbing instructor courses on the week-ends. Things will be pretty crazy till the end of June when I'll finally be finished grading government exams.

Where is the Horny Canuck?

PS - I've done Marcy, but wouldn't mind doing it again, but I know that Gremlin just has two more high peaks left to finish his 46 (Couchacaroga (sp?) and Santinoni) and I didn't manage to get Panther the last time I made it up to the range. Let me know when you plan on doing the Marcy trip, I'll see if I can fit it in my schedule.

Some time I would like to do this hike.

Day 1: Hike into Panther Gorge from Elk Lake and set up camp.

Day 2: Hike up Haystack, over to Marcy, then hit Grey, then Skylight, and then back down to the gorge.

Day 3: Hike back out to Elk Lake.

I'll be gone from Aug 2 to 20. I'm driving to Wyoming with my old tent trailer and new car for Windorama. I plan on taking 5 or 6 days to get there and about 4 coming back.

How about September?

It's a gas hiking with you two (and all the others).

I hope to see you on the Ithaca cook out trip.
