Im considering starting a Backpacker Hall of Fame on my website. I need suggestions of backpackers who have accomplished something out of the ordinary or were inspirations to others

First thing I think of when I strap on the pack is, "Damn, I sure hope I make the Backpacker Hall of Fame before I die!"

Oetzi is good,

How about Mao Tse Tung with the "long march", can anyone verify if he carried a backpack for any part of that walk?

Roald Amundsen to the South Pole and back.

Gravy is what I refer to as fluid. It just sounds better.

So he always has access to a high-calorie snack on hikes.

Sounds better? The idea of a thick brownish substance or (Thanks to Scorch) a thick chunky red sauce oozing out of your knee? This is better than "fluid"?

I want to party with you!

Cheers
I'll lift a beer tonight for all those backpackers out there who hike in anonymity, just doing their thing, never getting mentioned in a g_d-damn book, never fanatically drilling holes in their toothbrushes to save weight. Hike on !!

Maybe they could make a Bud commercial for backpackers.

How about Marco Polo? IMHO I'd say Italy to China and back is a pretty noteworthy hiking trip.

How about Lewis & Clark? St. Louis to Portland and back.

Or the Swedish dude who went from Stockhlom to the top of Mt. Everest a few years ago?

Maybe Budda? Wandered the Indian subcontinent for a few years, living off the land, until he final "awoke" (as he put it).
