I'm as apossed to filth as the next tightazz but is this super bowl halftime show going to force even MORE political correctness on everyone?

Stern Pulled

Well, I'll bet if Stern tries to jump to another station, (does Clearchannel have any competitors?), they won't let him out of his contract.

Our local station that carries him is really short on content, so not only do they play him live in the mornings, he is their after midnight programming, as well as all weekend long. Funny guy. A Bush supporter too, I might add, lol.

I don't know of any local stations that carry him.

Do you really think he will retire after his current contract, or is it just a schtick? I believe he'll stay, if the money is there.

He talks about boobs and pussies all the time, but I don't remember him saying anything specific about the current administration.

That's correct, he does talk about liberals quite a bit. I had forgotten.

Hypocrites
We have a new radio station, Real Rock 104, and all they talk about is sex, sex and more sex. And the only news they have is what they call "Stupid News"...nothing of importance, just gee wiz crap. They promote sex like you wouldn't believe...And it is a Clear Channel station.

A Message From Your Christian Conservative Friend
Dear Fellow Americans,

Today, with the help of your prayers, we have successfully indoctrinated our religious policy into government policy..... our goal for years. If you hear anything on the radio, or TV that you, or your pastor deems offensive, please call the FCC, and we will have them banned!

Thanks you for all your years of support and intolerance to promote our religious agenda, it is finally paying off!!

Signed,

The folks that brought you prohibition

Did Clear Channel ever listen to Stern's show before deciding to air it?

Whelp, maybe I'll be the only one that disagrees with the masses on this. Stern, though real funny at times, is what I would concider an adult program. IMHO, on myu way to work, I'd rather listen to MUSIC than a couple of Stern wannabees 9WRIF, a local station that I haven't listen to in many years). The success of Stern's 8th grade toilet humor has done nothing but broght hte rest of morning radio to newer levels of lows. Now, don't get me wrong too quickly....I used to listen to him all the time about 5 years or so ago, but when most of the "7 dirty words you can't say on radio" started showing up on his show, I quit listening.

I don't reall y thing that this is a situation of becoming too PC, I think it a case of the fall arrest harness kicking in before we hit bottom. Yes, it is an over reaction and something that shouldn't have happened, IF the coporation rained him in earlire in his carrer......but back then, they were too busy whoring him out for the bennies. Now that they will start loosing money does it get there concern. Too bad it wasn't all the PEOPLE that complained about him that didn't get this reaction. What a shame, Stern = collateral damage.

I listened to him when he came to NYC about 15 years ago but the potty humor wore thin after a while. I do have the option of listening to something else and as a parent, I monitor my kid's media diet.

I beginning to wonder if this is a calculated publicity stunt by Clear Channel.

I too have tired of Stern's content. It doesn't make me feel better about the world - which isn't a requirment, but I don't need it wvwey morning on my way to work.

Howard Stern is the best at what he does. That being said, let me elaborate. i first started listening to Howard Stern around 1981, when he was at DC101 and came to WNBC in New York shortly thereafter. In Washington, he supposedly called Air Florida (in the wake of the crash into the 14th Street bridge) and asked if they were going to be making routine stops there from now on. This suposedly cost him his job, although there are those that say it isn't true. Being a radio jock myself, I listened intently. I remained a fan through the years and still think he is tops in his field. However, I no longer listen to him. As happens in American radaio and TV, when something novel hits the airwaves, it brings out every hack, imitator and schlock meisters (as well as a certain degree of talented people) and pretty much takes the novelty out of the whole thing. Such is the case of shock radio. I have been so inundated with Stern's imitators, that I personally have no interest in hearing another tittie joke", etc. It's just another case of overkill. I have pretty much gone over to strictly music. Q104 in New York has brought back Jim Kerr form the old WPJ days. His show hasn't changed much over the years and it is a pleasure (and a novelty!) to hear someone concentrate on music, oddball news, and some good light hearted, sporadic funny moments. Don't get me wrong, Stern is enormously talented. Too bad some of these other clowns have totally ruined the genre...

Stern is syndicated by Infinity (owned by Viacom and a competitor of Fear Channel).

Clear channel has taken him off of the 6 stations they had him on.

Fear Channel, and other major radio networks will bend over for Michael Powell, Ashcroft and the other bush nazi's (who was the minister of communciation , Goebbel?????? Ashcroft could play the role well).

Anyhoo . . .the major corporations will bend over for it, because they need the FCC and Congress to approve their expansion plans.

Soon the radio waves will be dominated (heck, they already are) by 2 or 3 large networks all beholden to right wing conservative christians who are so f0ing uptight that they can hold press conferences in front of a nude statue of lady justice, but instead cover the statute up.

There is no more fitting imagery, no more defining imagery to Ashcroft's regime and attacks on on the first amendment than his literal shrouding of lady justice.

Boobs. What f-ing cares? IN Eurpe, and Canada this stuff is on tv 24/7.
In africa, boobs are just a a part of a women's body that sustains life for her children.

In Amerika boobs are frowned upon, dirty, obscene, a liberal conspiracy, likely to corrupt our morals and our youth.

Ashcrofts head should be cut off in the public square, put on a pike and ridden from town to town.

He is an ignorant bastard.

As for the political end of this issue, Lee hits the nail on the head. Clear Channel is being pressured right now and in no way will they buck this administration. I read last night that CC just fired a Tampa shock jock, who had been the subject of some huge fines. The process has begun!

I’m with Q and the rest that say the blatant shock jock stuff just doesn’t fly after so long. We have Bob and Tom out of Indi and they are way funnier. They depend on intellectual innuendo more than straight up nastiness. I think the thing that gets me the most about shock jocks is they are on in the MORNINGS. There’s a time and place for adult humor but the morning isn’t it. And of course the whole point of this thread was to ask the question, “Why now all of a sudden has Clear Channel found a conscience? Stern’s been on for years now.”.

Janet Jackson likes snowballing? EEEEWWWW! In looking on the other side of the coinone could say that this is just the FCC finally doing it's job and re establishing the rules that have always been there. It would be interesting to see how long Stern would last were the FCC guidelines actually enforced?

Politicians love this stuff. The Janet Jackson thing was like a gift from heaven for them, with all those people watching they couldn’t be happier. It’s an election year and they have found a good smoke screen issue. In other years it was flag burning and prayer in schools. They know they can use this to hide behind. They’ll keep talking about how outraged they are, hold congressional hearings and make it look like they’re doing something. Anything to detract people from the real issues that face this country. They want to get peoples minds off the things that they’re doing or not doing that will affect this country for generations. And when the election is over know one will talk about this and it will all go away.

He's been indecent his whole career.

Can anyone who is a regular listener confirm or deny that Howard has been hammering Bush lately, calling the gay marriage issue a distraction and said that Kerry is a war hero?
