I like DC. The met (subway) is pretty good too. Park on the outskirts & take the met in. Get a ticket that's good all day. I could easily spend a year in the Smithsonian. Liked skyline drive & the smokies.

Snipers
bearmagnet, I got a feeling this Royale Palace is a tiddy-shakin' joint!

nashville, the alpine experience can be had in the Dolly Sods/Roaring Plains area of West Virginia.
That is about 200 miles from D.C.

There is a Dolly Sods trip in late June.

I might be going to Roaring Plains in April.

Hmmm, Is Spruce Knob in the Dolly Sods? I hear that has an alpine feel.

Spruce Knob is 10-20 miles south of Dolly Sods.

Those places are part of the Allegheny Front/Plateau.

Dolly Sods reaches about 4,000.
Roaring Plains goes above 4,700 and Spruce Knob is 4,860.

Fir and red spruce are found above 3,500 in West Virginia.

These plateaus have a lot of bogs too.

Scorch - I failed! I f***ed up the dough! My dad is rolling in his grave. The Gravy was awesome though. Can I pay you to cook for me? Gonna try again tonight - should I buy a rolling pin?????

MarkO - They dancers do shake it at the Royale Palace. They may even make contact if they like you!

failed? noooo!!!!

glad you liked the gravy : )

it takes a while to get it right. the first few times i made it, the cheese wound up all over the oven. i dont use a rolling pin, but i'm sure it'd work just as well.

VERY fattening.. and i hope u like garlic lol
sorry my aol isn't working right on this dumb computer so i'll just post the recipe:

fettucine pasta
1.5 sticks of salted butter
chopped up fresh garlic (however much u like)
olive oil
whatever seafood u like in ur pasta: i usually put 1 lb. baby shrimp, 1 lb. baby scallops, and 1 whole king crab or alaskan crab leg chopped up.

sautee olive oil (enough to layer the frying pan) and 1 stick of butter. let butter melt before adding chopped up garlic. add a dash of paprika. add all seafood. add as much garlic salt as desired if u like it extra garlicy and keep lid on to keep taste in, occasionally stirring.

once sauteed, mix in with cooked fettucine and add half stick of butter and as much a salt/garlic powder, whatever else u like as desired. enjoy and brush ur teeth 10 times after eating. : )

March 19-20-21 I will be going to the mountains!

I've been wanting to do a loop around Trout Run Valley in West Virginia.

That is a 13 mile trip which is mostly ridge-runnin' and pretty rugged in places.
It goes by Big Schloss and Tibbet Knob, both very nice overlooks at about 3,000 feet.
Big Schloss has a 360 view from its top and features Big Cock Rock and nice rappel cliffs.

I like this trip because its only about 150 miles from Baltimore and 100 miles from Tacoma Park, Md.

Do a "mapquest" search for Wolf Gap, West Virginia.

Its on the state line just about 12 miles west of Woodstock, Virginia.
