to all those interested.....
i see two options right now according to my work schedule.

the weekend of october 29-31, halloween, full moon is on the 27 so it will still be quite full. star veiwing will be more limited with the full moon.

the weekend of november 12-14, the new moon is on the 12th so it will be optimum star viewing.

i'll wait a few days for all those interested to weigh in on the preference before posting it to the trip page. who knows, i may head down there both of those weekends.

either for me - may have a slightly better chance for good weather in Nov, but it prolly don't matter.

I'm gonna try to make it - but may be a long shot. Too early to tell just yet.

I vote for October. If the weather is crappy, we can always go again in November.

Good thought, Pennsy!

Last October you and I(and others) got hosed on Roaring Plains.

Two weeks later I was there with the boys and visibilty was unlimited and nary a drop of rain.

I believe those of us in Pennsylvania and Maryland could raise quite a mob and descend upon Rogers with a fury.

I'm a maybe at best. Would autumn color still be around at Halloween? I realize that would be the tale end, but would some color still be likely then?
dayhiker

maybe a little, depends on how much rain the area gets in early fall.

I have been wanting to go to Rogers for a few years. THe biggest reason why I'm a maybe is that a week or two before that I'll be spending a week at Disney with my kids. It might be a tight fit to turn around either 2 weeks or even a month later for another trip. I'll keep my eye on this one though.

I have a really nice North Face tent...large enough for you, me and DFB. Wanna shack up for the weekend and have some(alot of) trailsex? I'll carry the tent.

I would say that the fall colors should still be around on Halloween. Atleast in the lower elevations.

I was up there in Dec a couple of years ago, it started out around 20 but overnight the front passed through and around two am it was 40. The next day was sunny and warm.

Oddball mountain, you never know what you'll get.

cow patty and i went through there in march once and it was 17 with a wind chill of -20. there was permafrost on everything and it was raining ice on all the lower elevations. it started out the first day as 50 and sunny. the #&%!$ weather moved in the first night and the cold didn't leave until the fifth night, just in time for us to hike into damascus. you just never know donw there.

i am going to put up a date for halloween weekend and for two weeks later in november. i will be there for both. pick your weekend and come on.

my personal itenerary will not be the same for each weekend. look them over.
