AT Photo Project “The AT Photo Project intends to photo- graph the ENTIRE Appalachian Trail on May 30, 2004. This fundraising effort for the ATC, will produce a 2172 mile 'snapshot' of the trail, which we hope to publish in book form. The trail should show a marked variation in environment at that time, from near summer conditions in Georgia to early spring in Maine. Never before has this perspective of the AT been seen. We divided the trail into 211 approximately 10 mile sections, and already have volunteers to cover 80%+ of the trail. But to reach our goal of 100% coverage, we need 35 more hiker/ photographers. If you'd be interested in participating, please visit our website at www.atphotoproject.com for more info and details. We particularly need volunteers in SW Virginia, Maine, NW No. Carolina, and Vermont. Thanks for your time and consideration. We could be available to some of Maine, later in the Summer/fall, although it is not certain at this point. Are you looking to get a panorama of the scenery, or shots of points of interest? One trail I was on for some 15 miles was essentially a tunnel under the tree canopy, nice and flat. The scenery never changed for the whole 15 miles... But there are other spots where there is a great view every 100 feet or so. Do you have a link that will take us to guidelines for this project?” 8:52:50 AM 2/29/04 “ill be on the AT at that time, but it will be impossible to give more than a rough estimate of where i will be” 9:13:15 AM 2/29/04 Check the Project Website “www.atphotoproject.com for all the details, and to volunteer. If you're hiking during the project, you may be able to email a few photos to us. But we only take photos taken on May 30, 2004. How yu cover your section, and the subjects you choose are up to you. Hikers, scenics, hostels, flora, fauna, shelters, privies, sky to dirt, horizon to horizon, are all potential subjects. You're limited only by YOUR imagination. A spider web with dew on it, an owl perched on a branch, a bear peeking out from behind a tree, an awesome sunrise, a warm sunset, a giant ant hill, typical thru-hiker equipment, worn boots on the porch of a hostel, etc., etc. Thanks for your interest.
