I thought you might enjoy having an update as to what I'm doing, and what has happened in my life recently. I'm back in West Tennessee once again, after spending six months at a job in Hopkinsville, KY. It was a great experience, I made a lot of friends, and really hated to have my life re-arranged so fast -- but sometimes weird/bizarre things happen.

In case you are wondering, the reason I lost my job was due to the fact that one of my employees got offended by something I said, and filed a formal complaint with the NAACP. What is so bizarre about it all is that I was giving the guy a compliment, and said, "good boy, good job." Unfortunately, the use of the word 'boy' seems to have a negative connotation.

What is even stranger and bizarre is that the company I worked for already had a formal complaint filed (by the same person) against them (actually it was against my boss). As you can guess, the NAACP saw this pattern of two formal complaints (My boss's comment that got him in trouble was as stupid as my comment) against the same company within a few months as evidence that we were somehow racist -- and demanded they responded or they would bring the company up on Federal charges.

Oh well, life goes on. The good news is that I seem to have a lot of people interested in hiring me, and don't anticipate I will have to look for a job all that long. In the meanwhile, since spring is basically here, I will most likely take a few days and go hiking in the mountains soon.

We All Know Who's Racially Biased
Oh sure...there's a pattern with two comments coming from two different people from the same company. But where's the pattern of the dood getting offended twice when noone else in the company (I'm going out on a limb here) has filed a similar cmplaint???

You got to be the sacrificial scapegoat huh? That sucks but that's only temporary.

I had something like that happen to me a couple of weeks ago at work. Only in our case the accuser is getting fired.

Yowndawg is just too nice of a guy. The lawyer in me wants to make the company hurt. Somebody tell me the name of the company so I can tell everyone how they treat loyal, honest, hardworking, dedicated American workers.

sucky sucky TD, at least you've got good prospects.

Take a few days and enjoy the downtime if you can.

Sounds somewhat similar to discrimiatory hiring practices I experienced.

While looking for a job I was constantly getting to the 'final few' list of candidates, but never offered a job. This went on for about 1 year. I had an idea why I wasn't being hired, so I went and spent $70 on a cheap wedding ring (I'm 40+ white guy and I've never been married).

To my amazement, I started getting job offers!!! The real revenge was I started seeing those jobs I got turned down for coming back up on job sites. Just shows how much emphasis is placed on superficial things like image and perception, rather than ability and experience.

Ya, I'm sorry but I almost think this whole thing is hilarious. "good boy, good job." Oh wow, I'm offended.

Anyway, the company is very high profile, and I made a lot of really good contacts. I got started today calling some of them up and making sure I could use them for a reference, and some even asked me to send me my resume -- thinking they wanted to hire me, or knew of someone who would.

but hey.. again.. life will go on. I ain't skeered.

Towndawg the Japanes Scapegoat
TownDawg worked for Toyoto. Now I understand. A little history since the days the Japanese government had comfort women for their soldiers.

In modern times, the Japanese are extremely racist towards Koreans, and employ them only in the dirtiest and lowest-paying jobs. Tensions are so great between the two groups that violence often erupts in the form of riots. Japanese politicians are frequently in the newpaper apologizing for racist remarks. For instance, on September 22, 1986 the Japanese Prime Minister Nakasone made a public speech, "blaming the presence of Blacks, Puerto Ricans, and Mexicans for the decline of American intelligence levels." Another example was on April 9, 2000, Governor Ishihara made public speech which included racist slurs. Japanese polls just after the controversy surrounding his slurs showed that one-third to one-half of Tokyoites support Ishihara, who has a long history of racial slurs, offensive remarks and intolerance for foreigners.

So, if Japanese Toyoto is run from Japan which has has a world wide image problem of having racist attitudes, you have to find a scapegoat. Find someone to blame and punish to show the world that the Japanese have come along way since their government sponsored comfort women camps.

Along comes TownDawg, who backpacks with blacks, and in all my campfire chats with him when he was drunk (and that was all of them), never uttered a single racist thought or remark. TownDawg compliments a fellow black worker for doing a good job. That the way he is, TownDawg is a southern good old boy. So Toyoto fires TownDawg to show Americans that the Japanese are no longer racist.

Well you can't fool me. TownDawg is nothing more than a Japanese scapegoat. An innocent person being sacrificed for the Japanese sins. And I will remember this incident every time car buying comes up.
