I discovered, "Ben-Hur" and "Titanic" and now the "LoR's" each won 11 Oscars.”

“SHOULD have won 12...Best Sound Editing...but, weirdly, It wasn't nominated. The sounds on LOTR were beyond ANYTHING that has ever been done...but, I wont quivel about being tied with Ben Hur and Titanic. Those 3 films are in a league of their own.

Sean penn was incredible in Mystic River and had he not gotten the award it would have been a sham. He got scred a couple of years ago whe he didn't get it for "I Am Sam".
Tim Robbins got robbed several years ago when he lost out for his role in the "Shawshank redemption"

As far as the LOTR, all the actors played good rolls, but there were only two performances in the pic that rated a nomination in my opinion. One was Sean Astin as Sam and the other was the actor that played King Theodorin (spelling?)

I do think that this is the first time that a movie has swept all the categories it was nominated for. Ben Hur was nominated for 12 and won 11. Titanic had 14 nomination. LOTR had 11 nominations.”

“I seriously doubt they'll push "The Passion" for any of the industry awards. The only thing I think it'll get nominated for is the cinematography because there's not much touchy political ground to ferment there. If it wasn't such a touchy subject I'm sure it would be a big contender (Also it opened early in the year, which doesn't help).

I thought Depp should have won best actor, I saw all the actor performances. But Sean Penn was certainly deserving, and Bill Murray would have been also.”

the visuals, the directing (lotr DID win best director), writing (winner of best adapted screenplay), set and costume and art design (won those), and lots of other little things. a movie is about alot more than acting, especially a movie like this”

I bought the POTC DVD!

I liked the 3rd LOTR, but I liked Parts one and two better, just my opinion. It may be due to the 10 different ends in part three of lotr that drove me nuts!

I hope there is a sequel to POTC”

Timing

The public attention span is too short, and Passion came out at the beginning of the year. By June it will be on DVD and something new will come out on Labor Day weekend which while fresh and new will garner all the nominations.

“I liked Pirates also but overall I think that LOTR was due considering the innovation.

It is the first time that thgree pics were all filmed at once and I think that given the books, creating the screenplay was a garganyuan task. AND, although there were some changes from the books, overall the job that was done was excellent.

Johnny Depp is a good actor, actualy better then good. However, in my view (and most hollywood people seeem to hold the same opinion), Sean Penn is one of the great actors of the time. This was after all, his FORTH nomination. You may get one nomination on favortism, but to be nominated four times indicates a hell of a lot of talent.

The special effects in POTC were excellent, BUT far outshone by LOTR. The "lost" warriors from :OTR that Aragon recruited from inside that mountain fighting pretty much rivaled by itself what POTC did with FX.

To quote one of the winners in another category, "Thank God LOTR was not in this category"! It was time and it was deserved. This award was for a story that consisted of three movies. You could make a case that "Fellowship of The Ring" and The Two Towers" rated Best Picture and best director awards also.

Now if they'll just do "The Hobbit"”
