Huzzah!!!!” 11:33:19 PM 2/29/04 “DANG!!!!!!” 11:46:21 PM 2/29/04 It was a great show... “and JRRT would be humbly proud. Since I just finished the books (again) it was overly rewarding and brought tears to my aging eyes. SWEET!!!” 11:53:15 PM 2/29/04 “here here!” 12:00:19 AM 3/01/04 “i couldve done without seeing billy crystal naked, tho. charlize therons acceptance speech was really sweet. i like it when the actors get all choked up and excited.” 12:24:11 AM 3/01/04 “Billy Crystal was the funnist dang thing I've seen in years! Jack Nicholson as a hip Gandalf? Ha!” 7:09:17 AM 3/01/04 “I wanted to see Johnny Depp get "best Actor" for Capt. Jack Sparrow in "pirates of the Caribbean :-( I did not see "Mystic River" yet, so I can't say Penn did not deserve it over him. LoR kicked booty.... Tied record with 11 oscars, I think it was "Rocky" received 11 oscars also. Next big movie Episode 3 !!!!!” 7:23:32 AM 3/01/04 “Here are the Oscar winners: Best Picture ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Actor Sean Penn, ''Mystic River'' Best Actress Charlize Theron, ''Monster'' Best Supporting Actor Tim Robbins, ''Mystic River'' Best Supporting Actress Renée Zellweger, ''Cold Mountain'' Best Director Peter Jackson, ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Adapted Screenplay ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Original Screenplay ''Lost in Translation'' Best Foreign Language Film ''The Barbarian Invasions'' Best Animated Feature Film ''Finding Nemo'' Best Cinematography ''Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World'' Best Short Film (Live Action) ''Two Soldiers'' Best Short Film (Animated) ''Harvie Krumpet'' Best Documentary Short Subject ''Chernobyl Heart'' Best Documentary Feature ''The Fog of War'' Best Art Direction ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Visual Effects ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Sound Mixing ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Sound Editing ''Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World'' Best Film Editing ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Song ''Into the West'' (''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'') Best Score ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Costume Design ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' Best Makeup ''The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King''” 7:23:36 AM 3/01/04 “Also Penn got his little political shot in during his acceptance speech too...I wish they could leave stuff out...” 7:25:55 AM 3/01/04 “They confused the heck out of me when the run the bob hope special.” 7:26:45 AM 3/01/04 “what did he say, snafu? i missed the awards. i had a lab report to write.” 7:27:17 AM 3/01/04 “he just said something about "WMD's not being found".... He must of been lurking on TT and got pumped up by Violyn...LOL” 7:29:34 AM 3/01/04 “haha word” 7:30:07 AM 3/01/04 “Clint Eastwood has really become a good director, He also did "unforgiven" which was good too. I have to see "mystic river" was it a good movie??? PS Billy Crystal ripped Ole' Clint on his singing in one of my all time favorite movies "Paint Your Wagon"” 7:33:32 AM 3/01/04 “I stand corrected.... After ready the paper during my early morning ritual. I discovered, "Ben-Hur" and "Titanic" and now the "LoR's" each won 11 Oscars.” 8:11:05 AM 3/01/04 LOTR... “SHOULD have won 12...Best Sound Editing...but, weirdly, It wasn't nominated. The sounds on LOTR were beyond ANYTHING that has ever been done...but, I wont quivel about being tied with Ben Hur and Titanic. Those 3 films are in a league of their own. JRRT must be supremely pleased. and Jack Nicholson...was a riot and the intro was hysterical.” 8:43:13 AM 3/01/04 “Anyone else LOVE the intro where Michael Moore got squashed by the LOTR battle elephant?” 9:06:54 AM 3/01/04 “Was that last night? I missed the whole thing!” 9:11:20 AM 3/01/04 “So, not trying to rain on anyone's party here (nor am I attacking the movie) but no actors from LOTR won. Seems like the visuals won the Best Picture award for it, no?” 9:12:24 AM 3/01/04 “i missed it too!” 9:13:42 AM 3/01/04 “I agreed right on with all the awards, and in the most part all the nominations. Sean penn was incredible in Mystic River and had he not gotten the award it would have been a sham. He got scred a couple of years ago whe he didn't get it for "I Am Sam". Tim Robbins got robbed several years ago when he lost out for his role in the "Shawshank redemption" As far as the LOTR, all the actors played good rolls, but there were only two performances in the pic that rated a nomination in my opinion. One was Sean Astin as Sam and the other was the actor that played King Theodorin (spelling?) I do think that this is the first time that a movie has swept all the categories it was nominated for. Ben Hur was nominated for 12 and won 11. Titanic had 14 nomination. LOTR had 11 nominations.” 9:54:20 AM 3/01/04 “I too thought Johnny Depp should have gotten an award, but didn't see "Mystic River," so what do I know?” 9:59:55 AM 3/01/04 “Wow, people really get into this stuff.” 10:00:58 AM 3/01/04 “Speakin' of the Oscar's,,,how do you think Mel's 'Passion' will fare next year? Will they recongize him since he went it alone in the making 'Passion'?” 10:11:43 AM 3/01/04 Haven't seen Passion yet, “but, it is surely to get recognition... and, No, I usually don't follow the Oscars, but, this year and the past 2 years, I've been particularly interested cause of LOTR. This was a wonderful vindication for past misdeeds done by the academy. As for spelling...Theoden...prounced Thay-o-din, with the stress on the first syllable.” 10:24:44 AM 3/01/04 “i hope the passion gets recognized. it was a brilliantly made movie and it deserves some awards if not for being so damn good then for stirring up so much controversy!” 10:26:53 AM 3/01/04 “I seriously doubt they'll push "The Passion" for any of the industry awards. The only thing I think it'll get nominated for is the cinematography because there's not much touchy political ground to ferment there. If it wasn't such a touchy subject I'm sure it would be a big contender (Also it opened early in the year, which doesn't help). I thought Depp should have won best actor, I saw all the actor performances. But Sean Penn was certainly deserving, and Bill Murray would have been also.” 10:49:33 AM 3/01/04 “I also thought Pirates had a shot at special effects.” 10:54:59 AM 3/01/04 “"Seems like the visuals won the Best Picture award for it, no?" the visuals, the directing (lotr DID win best director), writing (winner of best adapted screenplay), set and costume and art design (won those), and lots of other little things. a movie is about alot more than acting, especially a movie like this” 10:55:28 AM 3/01/04 “they shouldve had more than 3 nominees in the visual effects category, with all the big-budget action and comic book movies out last year” 11:02:52 AM 3/01/04 “I was going to watch it in hopes of a wardrobe mulfuntion but the prudes had a 5 second delay. Fagetaboutit!” 12:31:39 PM 3/01/04 “that opening montage by billy crystal was a serious malfunction. i couldve done without that” 12:34:21 PM 3/01/04 “I was glad to see golum won best actor.” 12:40:17 PM 3/01/04 “IMHO, Pirates of the Caribbean was by far the best movie of last year. Okay, the LOTR was a close second, but not THAT close. Johnny Depp MADE that movie so entertaining. I hope Nader takes a lot of Dem votes. I didn't watch the Oscars, I was driving back from a weekend at Mono Lake, but Depp should've won.” 12:51:34 PM 3/01/04 “I agree buck! I bought the POTC DVD! I liked the 3rd LOTR, but I liked Parts one and two better, just my opinion. It may be due to the 10 different ends in part three of lotr that drove me nuts! I hope there is a sequel to POTC” 1:36:39 PM 3/01/04 “"I too thought Johnny Depp should have gotten an award, but didn't see "Mystic River," so what do I know?" i thought johnny depp should have gotten in my bed” 1:43:49 PM 3/01/04 “You Horny Toad!!! LOL” 1:57:28 PM 3/01/04 “Scorchie, Depp is a froggie wanna bee” 1:58:06 PM 3/01/04 “Actually Depp's ancestry is originally French, but his ancestors have been in America since the 1600's.” 1:59:22 PM 3/01/04 “mmmm froggie legs... works for me :D sorry scorch, he was with me grrr baby!” 1:59:54 PM 3/01/04 “Passion is unlikely to get much in the way of Oscar nominations next year. Timing The public attention span is too short, and Passion came out at the beginning of the year. By June it will be on DVD and something new will come out on Labor Day weekend which while fresh and new will garner all the nominations. Not how it should be,..but how it is.” 2:16:49 PM 3/01/04 “Does anyone know if Star Wars Episode 3 is due out this year or not? if so that will crush all!!” 2:22:00 PM 3/01/04 “Next year, I believe. HP3: the prisoner of Azkaban is out June 4.” 2:44:13 PM 3/01/04 “maple, you WISH!” 5:24:29 PM 3/01/04 “Amazing . . . 'Spicolli' wins the best actor award, beating out 'Carl the Asst. Groundskeeper.' Now for next year: What say all TTr's e-mail the AMPAS website to get "Touching the Void" nominated as best documentary in 2004?” 9:30:48 PM 3/01/04 “What manuka said plus. Then again, maybe not if it is the top box office draw of the year. "October Sky" was one of the best movies in the year it came out, but didn't get any nominations because it was long forgotten by Oscar time.” 2:31:49 AM 3/02/04 “I liked Pirates also but overall I think that LOTR was due considering the innovation. It is the first time that thgree pics were all filmed at once and I think that given the books, creating the screenplay was a garganyuan task. AND, although there were some changes from the books, overall the job that was done was excellent. Johnny Depp is a good actor, actualy better then good. However, in my view (and most hollywood people seeem to hold the same opinion), Sean Penn is one of the great actors of the time. This was after all, his FORTH nomination. You may get one nomination on favortism, but to be nominated four times indicates a hell of a lot of talent. The special effects in POTC were excellent, BUT far outshone by LOTR. The "lost" warriors from :OTR that Aragon recruited from inside that mountain fighting pretty much rivaled by itself what POTC did with FX. To quote one of the winners in another category, "Thank God LOTR was not in this category"! It was time and it was deserved. This award was for a story that consisted of three movies. You could make a case that "Fellowship of The Ring" and The Two Towers" rated Best Picture and best director awards also. Now if they'll just do "The Hobbit"” 10:25:34 AM 3/02/04
