Seam-sealer questionView Messages“Who, StormBringer or skiracer?” 1:53:08 PM 3/03/04 “ROFLMAO! too funny, BowlderMan” 1:53:30 PM 3/03/04 “There, 53, are you happy?” 1:53:39 PM 3/03/04 “phew...we can stop now” 1:54:09 PM 3/03/04 “silnet?” 1:54:13 PM 3/03/04 “you stop first” 1:54:42 PM 3/03/04 “yes, silnet...the urethane based product, right?” 1:54:59 PM 3/03/04 “we're catching up to the prosecutor banned thread” 1:55:44 PM 3/03/04 “I know how to seal my seams, but how do I seal the part with the screen?” 1:57:32 PM 3/03/04 “With Saran Wrap. You start with your head...” 1:58:36 PM 3/03/04 “make sure to seal all the tiny little holes” 1:58:48 PM 3/03/04 “im leaving” 1:59:39 PM 3/03/04 “And you started it...sheesh...” 2:01:22 PM 3/03/04 “buy a quality tent!” 6:20:09 PM 3/03/04 “So we know about the silicone and the urethane. Now What do you use to seal latex? vaseline or KY?” 6:48:27 PM 3/03/04 “you might try silnet.... just a hunch.” 6:59:07 PM 3/03/04 serious question “does the fact that you have to seam-seal it yourself say bad things about the manufacturer? its from henry shires and ive heard nothing but good about them. maybe its cuz theyre a small company and dont have the equipment to tape the seams like the large companies?” 7:16:11 PM 3/03/04 “most tents, even the ones with taped seams need to be seam sealed to have confidence there won't be any drips. It's not a bad mark on the company. I've never used one of their tents, but I've heard lots of good remarks about them. You should be fine.” 7:18:13 PM 3/03/04 “so poo-poo on jerbers post” 7:19:37 PM 3/03/04 “Last year I was told a tape for hot-seaming sil-nylon has not been developed yet. I don't think you'll find anything made with silnylon that has taped seams. Use the Mcnett Silnet . . . it's by far better than anything I've seen. Just remember to apply baby powder over the seam sealer before folding the tent up or it might stick together.” 7:58:50 PM 3/03/04 “LOL now that would be disappointing!” 8:00:06 PM 3/03/04 “no, ill let it dry overnight” 8:00:47 PM 3/03/04 “you still need to apply the powder . . . after it has dried.” 8:02:48 PM 3/03/04 “times two what jerbear said. Storm, if you use yer Hilleberg, ya don't hafta seam seal it. That's a quality tent and product line!” 8:12:15 PM 3/03/04 “The seams are usually taped by mechanican means and there are places that can't be done mechanically so they need to be done by hand. to tape or seal ALL the seams would be very labor intensive and add quite a bit to the cost of the tent.” 9:36:52 PM 3/03/04 “rh: thats exactly what i figured. q: tarptents about half the weight, more room, and is more suitable for spring and fall weather. but youre right, the hilleberg is a quality tent. tarptent is just better suited to an AT thru-hike” 12:29:24 AM 3/04/04 “yea right 6 months OTT and usin a piece of sil. Plan to purchase a couple of em.Cry one time. MSR has a great bivy 2.3lbs Would be my choice.” 4:34:36 AM 3/04/04 “Stormbringer...read your AT journal entry where you talked about trying to keep the sealed seams on your tent from touching so they won't stick together. Use a little talcum powder on the sealed seams and you won't have to worry about it.” 11:49:21 AM 3/15/04 “yep. did that. thanks : D however, we must be old, because the young lady at the store hadnt heard of talcum powder. she said "do you mean baby powder?" my tent is now as fresh as a babys bottom” 1:20:23 PM 3/15/04 “A lot of it is made from cornstarch now, so maybe that's why. A few years ago someone printed a report that inhalation of talcum powder might be dangerous to your health. No doubt this is the cause of the baby bust in the 60's and 70's, all those dead babies from talcum powder.” 1:22:53 PM 3/15/04 “mmmmmm dead babies” 1:25:28 PM 3/15/04 “Because you can use a pitchfork.” 1:25:54 PM 3/15/04
