Who else has the new Stephen King?
I just bought the Dark Tower a couple of hours ago. I'll be up all night.

Hear me and hear me well: All night? Dark Tower VII is 840 pages. It's gonna take me weeks to finish it. I'm up to pg 150 and it's awesome so far.

I'm waiting for Artex to see this thread so I can start telling him what happens. He's only on DT V or VI.

Try "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon".
About a girl that gets lost in the woods off the AT in Maine/New Hampshire.

Side note: The girl lives in Sanford, Maine.

Another: It's probably killing Steven King that the Yankees have a Tom Gordon now.

I saw Stephen King on tv sitting in the stands at a ball game...he had on a red and white Yankees cap...what the heck does that mean?

I refuse to read the Dark Tower books until they are completely done...
I read the first three, was right into them, and then...no more books! I was ripped! Here it is many years later and now I have to read them all over again...not doing it until I'm sure he's done.

Scorchy, one of my favorites is "The Eyes of the Dragon"
Tabitha King writes some good stuff as well.

This is the last gunslinger book. I got it the night it came out, about halfway done, and our ka-tet is coming to an end. The twist i wasn't prepared for happened near the end of the previous book. King also finally admits that over 75% of his books are directly related to the Dark Tower epic.

Lumberzac...scorchy..they are done..the dark tower has drawn to a close. King stated he would put the last two out close to each other...."wolves of Calla" and "The dark Tower"....number 7 is the last one..it's world may intertwine with future books as it has in his past ones...but no more Tower

scorchy,
the stand, and insomnia are some of his books that are most tied to the gunslinger books. Salems Lot is another with strong ties.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is an awesome book. I highly recommend reading it after dark while out on a hiking trip.

I decided to start the Dark Tower series all over because it had been so long since I had read the first one. I should make it to VII by Halloween ¦ ) .

I've never read any S. King... but have been thinking about starting the dark Tower series. Either it or the Stand will be my King introduction.

I'm a very fast reader... and I read in most of my free time. I don't watch much TV. I'll finish off 400 page books in a couple of days. 1000 page books normally take me a little over a week or less if I'm really into them.

I haven’t enjoyed his later stuff. Tommyknockers was the last one I tried to read. His books just seem a bit too long, drawn out and not in the same vain as his classics. I remember reading The Shining as a kid and it scared the bejeebus out of me. One of the most riveting books I ever read was Pet Cemetery. Physically impossible to put down!

me neither Nigal...I used to read everything he wrote, then it seemed like he was writing any old thing but it would sell because he's Stephen King.

I have a few of his books that I haven't read yet. I'll have to check out "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" though...

Clancy has become a test of endurance and overkill on detail of late...king is the same to me..but less gore, and fright, and more "weird", but all worlds ride the beam

I read Clancey's Teeth of the Tiger and felt it was a quick knock off he churned out real quick to zero in on the terrorist thing. It was a 6 on a scale of 10.

I just finished DT4 and am about to buy DT5. The Dark Tower books are probably the best King has ever written, IMHO, with one exception: Dreamcatcher is still number one on my list. No book has ever made me had the severity of nightmares as that one did. The movie stunk of course, but the book was amazing.

But as for the Dark Tower series... Wow! Very imaginiative. I'm really enjoying them.

I bought Black House and both my wife and I loved it. It started off slow but got really good. I went out and got The Talisman and now my wife won't give it to me. I got about 1/4 of the way through it too. She needs to hurry up and finish it!

Oh man, I am with yas Twig. I read the first three and then there was such a pause, I didn't pick them back up. The first one I have has all these great color paintings in it like a comic book. I also have a Creepshow and Silver Bullet that have tons of drawings in them. The Creepshow, of course, is a faux comic book based on the Gaines old stuff.

Nigal, you've hit the nail on the head about the newer stuff. I thought Dreamcatcher really sucked. I read Everything's Eventual recently, the most recent collection of his short stories and there were only about two stories I thought were worthy. I loved Skeleton Crew and the one with Children of the Corn in it. Great scarry stuff. When are they gonna get with it and make a movie out of "The Mist"??? Or The Tallisman?

Anyway, yeah. Old King rocks. His newer stuff is lame by comparison. Except for the Dark Tower stuff...

Oh, Discordia.

The last cd on the audio version of Dark Tower VI is a journal by SK. It's very interesting as it takes you into his head from the first DT, up to when he got hit by that van. He mentions all the angry mail he received during the long between III and IV.

I got lucky. I only started the DT series this year and I'm 1/4 way thru VII.

I tried to do a count and I think I've read 35 of his books. The STAND far and away is my favorite.

Anytime someone mentions Dreamcatcher, I can't help saying: F__K ME FREDDIE!

I did buy the book of short stories though, 'All Things Are Eventual' or something. There was a story in there about a golfer who was bitten by a snake and totally paralized. Everyone thought he was dead and he lay there helpless listening as he was taken in for and started his autopsy. [shiver]

I cut my teeth on his Richard Bauchman books so I'm stuck in the old days.

I'm a huge SK fan and even got to interview him in person in college. :-)

My fav has to be "The Stand." It's just that epic, end-of-the-world, good-vs-evil... but played out between the East, Midwest, Boulder and Vegas. Gotta love the spots he chooses to represent the good and evil in this world.

I had to buy "Carrie" on the sly in high school. My mom didn't want me reading that crap! lol

I like his stuff that isn't necessarily so gruesome. The last book I bought was "Hearts of Atlantis." The four stories tie together, of course.

Waaaaaaay back when, I bought the first DT book in paperback. When I realized a bunch more were coming, I decided to wait and start again when ALL the books were out. Sooooooooo, look like I've got some reading to do!

Also, "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon?" GREAT BOOK! Pretty much a MUST for backpackers... I mean, don't you want to see how this young girl survives getting lost in the woods while hiking???!?

I was at the library and picked up "The Girl That Loved Tom Gordon" on tape.
I've read the book twice but have never listen to a book on tape and thought this might be a good one.
I listened to it some on the way to New Hampshire and back. I didn't quite finish because I was going to Niagara Falls the next weekend and I thought my daughter and her friend might like it too.
So, I start it over with them and listen to the first 3/4 of it again while they catch up.
Surprise, after listening to almost all of it twice the last tape is broken!!!
