Need a traditional Irish Pub
for celebrating St. Paddys day.
Wonder if there is a good one in the Knoxvegas area? Anyone got any suggestions? Best St. Patrick's Day I ever spent was at The Emerald Isle Pub drinking good Irish beer and whiskey. Eating traditional Irish fare and listening to a fantastic band with Celtic music. All else will be compared to that.

by the way...... thanks Cummins for the greeting card! :-)
Twas very sweet and made me smile.

A 'genuine imitation' perhaps? <G>

A word of caution: do not ever drink a black & tan prepared with Guinness and British ale. A small civil war might erupt on your insides (I discovered this the hard way some years ago).

I think they just sell some sort of generic "Irish" pub design. They even have them down here in South America, complete with the cheesy art repros of Guinness signs. Of course, the Guinness is only served in a can...

I just found out recently that that is Enyas' family and she was a singer with them before branching out. Do you know of Lorenna Mc Kennit? Great Celtic listening. I could go on all day but I'll keep it short.

What is danababy doing today?
Well Cummins... whoever you are.
I'm waking up. I was woikin' in the ER at Big Hospital last night.
I agree with JVZ... I like Loreena McKennitt too. I have alot of her stuff and some I've learned to play. Ever hear of Seven Nations? Ever hear of The Antipypr? Neil Anderson and Full Circle?
Slainte!

If ya like..............
......Loreena McKennitt.

Sandy Denny(deceased) and Fairport Convention with Richard Thompson(great picker) is nice Celtic Rock.

In the same genre is:
Pentangle
Steel Eye Span

These are Electric Celtic bands from 30-35 years ago.

They all feature outstanding and haunting female vocalists.

Worth A Look......Or A Listen
Renaissance:
Annie Haslam(five octave voice and still performing thiry years on)

Pentangle:
Jacqui McShee(still performing)

Steeleye Span:
Maddy Prior(still at it, I think)

Fairport Convention:
Sandy Denny(fell down a flight of stairs in 1978 and never regained consciousness)

All of these bands play a kind of British Isles folk/rock and feature female vocalists who can make the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

Pentangle features John Renbourne and Bert Jansch who are superb guitarists.
They rarely play electric and can't quite be classified as "rock".

JVZ - I am always interested
in lyrics as well as the vocals
and instrumentation.
Lorenna's lyrics on her
Book of Secrets cd are
remarkable. Which is your
favorite cut ?

MarkO - I liked the earlier
acoustical sound of Pentangle
best . "Light Flight" on the
"Basket of Light" album was
very popular.

Tilt - I get lost in Mary Black's
eyes. "Nobody Lives Without
Love" and "If I Gave My Heart
To You" are two of my favorites.
I was amused that she covered
"Moon River".

Dana - If I were to "come to"
in the ER with you attending,
I guess I would think I had
made it to heaven. I had heard
that Neil Anderson was to be
a guest artist with The Chieftains
at their concert in the Carolinas
a couple of weeks ago. I also
heard that he is in an indie
movie "Skye", but I don't know
any details. I like Kirk Mcleod's
vocals and lyrics. I really enjoy
much of Neil A's work with 7N.
I like his "Dante's Local" cd. I
haven't had a chance to really
listen to "Revenge of Antipypr".

Slainte Mhor !

are you playing?

Are you familiar with
Cathie Ryan? I have her
"Somewhere Along the Road"
album which I like. She also
has a well done web site.

I always think of Mary Black's version of "Song For Ireland".

Walking all the day
Near tall towers where falcons build their nests
Silver-winged they fly
They know the call of freedom in their breasts
Saw Black Head against the sky
Where twisted rocks they run to the sea

Living on your western shore
Saw summer sunsets, asked for more
I stood by your Atlantic Sea
And sang a song for Ireland

Neil & Tim Finn
Adam Clayton & Bono

St. Patrick's Day
I started this thread with the
question "What will you be
doing to celebrate St. Patrick's
Day?"

Part of my heritage is Irish. The
fact that I am American means
the world to me, but it always
has been fun to know what
else flows in my blood. I n
about five hours I am going
to have a real good "excuse"
to party in the evening.

I hope that all of you that are
out tomorrow have a real time
and make it home safely.
