What was the unemployment rate during Bush I fours years and Clinton's first four? Maybe they were comparing it to those times? If we were having higher unemployment during those times, let's say like 6.5% or 7%, then it would be accurate to say the 5.6 was good. During Clinton, I believe that unemployment was lower than it is now, but I could be worng. Also, my question would be: Do we take into concideration population growth when getting these figures?” 10:41:55 AM 3/07/04 “Well, a quick overview of the DoL, shows that in 1/04 shoed that we had an unemployment rate of 6.7 percent and it slows falls to the 5.6 percent during Feburary of '96. Now, in Jan of 2000, we had an unemployment rate of 4.1% and now have gained to as high as 6.0% and presently back down to 5.6%. This was done real fast, but it looks like to me that the media might just reporting the facts here, and not being biased. Seeing as though during the times listed, during Clinton, unemployment fell, while during Bush, it has risen. Me thinks the media is taking it in to context, if you will, the current conditions and comparing it to the "good times", which you can't help but do. I alos noticed that population grwoth does paly a factor in such that techincally, more people are employed nowadays than they were back then, we have a bigger population.” 10:58:37 AM 3/07/04 Unemployment is for wimps “I got a new job in marketing! ”1:06:40 PM 3/07/04 “The DoL and individual state unemployment numbers are so screwy they can be interpreted in any number of ways: The DoL unemployment rate only considers those who are LOOKING for jobs; anyone who has become discouraged and given up looking is NOT included. If you look at the DoL stats you'll also see it takes longer to find a job if you're unemployed - 6-9 months is average (from personal experience I'll say that number is optimisticaly accurate). It doesn't consider anyone who got laid off and could only find a job with less pay (underemployment) in their stats. On the plus side, the unemployment # doesn't count people who start their own businesses. Also remember the economy has to create about 150,000 jobs per month to keep up with the number of people entering the workforce; last month it only created 21,000, and January's # was only about 50,000. And those numbers will be constatly revised for the next 18 months as more accurate data is received in Washington DC. Wacky? You bet. Best probably to focus on the economy in the area of the country you live in.” 1:21:38 PM 3/07/04 They have made up their minds. “They are trying to make up your mind too. Why did Katie Couric have a 9/11 family member on Thursday morning opposed to the Bush ad that was first run on Thursday morning? Why did they not have family members who were proud of the 9/11 reference in the ad?” 2:40:27 PM 3/07/04 “Phaedrus really is a classless act.” 2:43:25 PM 3/07/04 “top dawg - I agree to a point, however, if we're talking general, I still stick to my point. I realy don't want to look locally, because in the Motor City, I'd bet it a little worse. The numbers from the DoL has been used to either tout or condem, so that's why I'd rather stick to those numbers as well. BTW - I always love a good, tastless joke. M.A.T. is just trying to stir the pot” 3:09:25 PM 3/07/04 “I work for the media. You guys are right. We're manipulating everything. Resistance is futile. Surrender now. The world is ours, so don't even bother. Bow to our secret agenda.” 3:14:37 PM 3/07/04 “It is no secret.” 3:15:58 PM 3/07/04 “You AND your little dog! Hoo hoo ha ha ha ha ha ah ha ha ha ha~~~~~~~~~~~” 3:17:26 PM 3/07/04 “You're right, bacpac. It is no secret. We simply control everything. Resistance is futile.” 3:23:33 PM 3/07/04 “Just I had thought. During the early 1990's (ie Bush I) in the Detroit Metro area, unemployment was at 8 percent, then peaked at 10.5 during Jan of '91, went down a littel , then peaked again in Jan of '92 at 10.3%. During Clinton's years, the highest it ever was, was in Jan of '93 and that was 8.5%, from then on, we were going on around 4.5 or so. From Jan 2000 (Bush II inagurated), we have steadly climbed to our recent level of 6.7%, and peaking this past July at 8.3. So, it seems that in my area, everytime there is a Repub in office, unemployment rises. The big numbers in January could of course be directly linked to the layoffs from the Big Three, which happens and is common, however, please note that during Clinton, those number were almost half of what they are now.” 3:26:29 PM 3/07/04 “"Just I had thought...." SHOULD read "Just as I thought"... Carry on....” 3:27:43 PM 3/07/04 i wish the media would make up their minds..... “cuz we all know its a mass conspiracy, an unfair and unbalanced conspiracy” 3:33:04 PM 3/07/04 “and i hate to agree with m.a.t., but that was beneath you, phaedy. its really no worse than bacpacs comments on ped.” 3:36:44 PM 3/07/04 “I just wish someone would answer my question. Mocking my question is not an answer.” 3:37:14 PM 3/07/04 “why dont you ask katie couric?” 3:38:43 PM 3/07/04 “besides, mocking trolls is the only way to deal with them” 3:39:20 PM 3/07/04 “I did, no reply as usual.” 3:40:11 PM 3/07/04 “storm, bacpac IS this troll” 3:41:16 PM 3/07/04 “well, that liberal b!tch” 3:41:34 PM 3/07/04 “Mocking seems to be your way of dealing with life.” 3:43:48 PM 3/07/04 “i think that goes for u as well, sweetie pie” 3:46:38 PM 3/07/04 “actually it's just your WAY of life” 3:46:50 PM 3/07/04 “Like stated above, butt smack, ask Couric. Here's something for you to chomp on. More "treasonous" acts from your leader: BUSH EXPLOITS PHOTO OF DEAD BODIES, DESPITE BAN As the nation headed for war last year, President Bush "clamped down" on the media, extending and expanding a controversial policy that banned reporters from photographing flag-draped caskets of soldiers killed in combat (1). The White House said the policy was enforced to "spare the feelings of military families." (2) Yet, in the very first television advertisement of his 2004 campaign, the president has blanketed the nation's airwaves with an image of "firefighters carrying a flag-draped body" from the 9/11 wreckage at Ground Zero (3). The hypocrisy of preventing Americans from receiving a "reminder of the toll of war" at the very same time the president exploits an image of a dead body for his own political gain has caused an outrage among victims' families (4). Chris Burke, whose brother Tom died in the attacks, said, "Using my dead friends and my dead brother for political expediency is dead wrong. It's wrong, it's bad taste and an insult to the 3,000 people who died on Sept. 11." (5) The president's actions have also raised new credibility questions because he previously promised not to exploit the 9/11 attacks. Speaking of 9/11 in January 2003, President Bush told the Associated Press that he had "no ambition whatsoever to use this as a political issue." (6) Sources: 1. They want equal things from your hypocritical leader. He can do the things he doesn't want others to do. Deal with it and quit trolling.” 3:56:20 PM 3/07/04 “I made a challenge in another thread. I want to hear a Democrat tell me why they support John Kerry without mentioning President George W. Bush. Bet you can't.” 4:10:35 PM 3/07/04 “Why do you narrow minded folks call someone a troll anytime they offer a different opinion?” 4:12:25 PM 3/07/04 “Also, notice that the few jobs that are being created are very low-paying jobs, whereas in years prior, the jobs paid more.” 4:20:46 PM 3/07/04 “Nice try, Missy......” 4:31:25 PM 3/07/04 “I didn't think you could do it.” 4:43:17 PM 3/07/04 “"Why do you narrow minded folks call someone a troll anytime they offer a different opinion?" Miss Anne Thrope 04:12:25 PM I don't call you a troll. I call you a dickless moron. Check the record. I've been very consistent in your dickless moron-ness. Also, I'd like to point out again that you look like you have down syndrome, but I wouldn't give you that much credit. B the way, I support Kerry because he is the better of the candidates with a realistic chance to win the presidency.” 4:58:53 PM 3/07/04 “A. I am not a moron. B. I am not dickless. C. I do not have downs syndrome D. You are consistent. E. That is not much of an endorsement for Kerry.” 5:03:47 PM 3/07/04 “1. Yes you are, and you've proven it. 2. Yes you are, and you've proven it. 3. You sure look like it. 4. I'm right 5. See the other thread, moron.” 5:11:02 PM 3/07/04 “Why does every discussion with you start and end like a playground fight?” 5:17:13 PM 3/07/04 “I'm not discussing with you. I wiping the floor with you because you're sleaze, and I'd hate to see anyone who doesn't know better think that you have might be a person of reasonable opinions. People tend to give you benefit of the doubt for common sense and decency that you have proven you do not deserve. I'm just making sure no one forgets what you are.” 6:27:28 PM 3/07/04 “I think you are doing a better job of showing everyone what kind of person you are.” 7:19:23 PM 3/07/04 “fight fight redneck and a white” 7:19:53 PM 3/07/04 “I'm proud of what I am, bacpac. Pedxing wasn't able to defend himself at the time you made your comments, and you showed yourself to be an absolute coward. You don't get a pass on that - from me at any rate. Continue your squirming.” 7:27:40 PM 3/07/04 “I did not say anything about ped that I would not say to his face.” 7:32:34 PM 3/07/04 “I don't mind saying it to you. 'Ye reap what ye sow.'” 7:34:09 PM 3/07/04 “so you do admit that it was you on the other side that said ped deserved the severe burns and the loss of property that he received?” 7:35:42 PM 3/07/04 “I doubt that, unless he were on his back in the hospital at the time. Oh wait... He was. You're right. You're a freakin superhero. Can't imagine why I called you a dickless coward.” 7:35:44 PM 3/07/04 “go phaedy!” 7:37:20 PM 3/07/04 “Case closed.” 7:37:20 PM 3/07/04 “No stormbringer I never said that. I said exactly what I quoted above.” 7:37:36 PM 3/07/04 “ok, fair enough. so how exactly did he sow what he reaped?” 7:38:48 PM 3/07/04
