Has anyone ever been to the Grand Bahama Island? I won a trip there and we are going to try to go in July. We have been to Nassau but I haven't heard much about the grand island.

touristy - but has some really nice snorkel and dive sites - horseback riding on the beach was fun - didn't have time to get to parasail - there's also a "swim w/h dolphins" thing you should look into if that's your thing - nice gardens too - enjoy the free trip

yeah, we had a blast. we took a cruise from ft. lauderdale(4 hrs). it was really touristy for sure, but the tropical weather, the water everywhere, the snorkeling(i'll tell ya some cool snorkeling stories later when i have more time).they have all these tours you can do, like twinks is talking about. we did a sunset booze cruise that was awesome, and went to this private island and had lunch and some of our group went skinny dipping. we stayed in freeport. hook up with a good cab driver, they know all the good stuff and all the bullcrap...

How is it compared to Nassau? As far as beaches, diving, attractions, etc. I loved Nassau and I didn't think it was too touristy. It was very relaxing and gorgous. I just know most ppl go to Nassau and not the Grand Island. I would love to get scuba certifed while we are there, Randy is already certified. I just don't know how much time we will have. My trip includes a cruise there, 3 nights in a resort, and a cruise back. 12 hours total on the boat.

just stay away from freeport
Watch out for the folks that try to sell time shares- got screwed bad one time while there. Hope that you will have a great time in July. When I was there in '92 they recycle nothing and the hotel restaurant service was so shoddy so we took the local bus and bought groceries. Other than that had a great time soaking in the sun and getting hair braided. maybe you might get that done here
before going and save some money.

Went to Freeport once, wasn't bad. The straw market was kinda cool - bring your negotiating shoes. Watch out for the local dealers - I got pumped to get my hair braided (real short, but I she got four beads on two itty bitty braids) and then immediately hit up to rent a jet ski, said no,....

"how bout da parasail mon", nope not today man. "Well what chu wanna do mon? You want some smoke?" uhhh, no. "You want some blow?"

This guy must've been the Freeport equivelent of Wal Mart - he had everything. LOL
