Well, folks, it's about time to go. I hope everyone here has a great few months. I am a little anxious but it should be a great trip. Look here for progress reports. You can also check my mother's journal on trailjournals.com. She's Double Nickels. I think this link will take you directly to her journal:

this guy is named milemonster and has almost a 2 week head start on me. im never going to catch him!

hey, tell your mom that she might want to change her journal entries to "prep" until she actually starts hiking, or else her stats will be all wrong. any dated entries the computer treats as hiking days.

o and good luck. and thanks for the ride a year ago!

Awsome!
Hope you have a great time. Most time I've spent on the AT at one time is 4 days. I gotta give props to those able to handle multiple months. Good luck! I just got off the AT myself... though mine was just a weekender. There are some great views about 27 miles in from Blood Mountain. Here is a pic of me about 1000 feet below and about 6.5 miles away from Blood mountain on Preaching Rock (the 20th mile from the top of Springer). Good luck and take lots of pictures!

There are so many trail around that area it's hard to hit em all. I'm still attempting to get all of the Ga AT under my belt. I now know I sure as heck am glad I climbed the west side of the mountain. Going at Blood from the east (from Neels) looks like it would be a major itch with a B. That's definitly been one of my favorite sections of the Ga-AT I've hiked so far.

Hey DeoreDX
I still need to do Neels to Unico Gaps and Dicks Creek to NC to finish out the GA AT.
Be nice to have a shuttle setup for those this spring. Maybe we can get together and help each other out.

Hey Stovie...
Actually SS... I was thinking the same thing whenI read your post over at Whiteblaze. Of course... my car has an affinity to not start at the end of hiking trips. Lets see... I had a radiator fan go out... wouldn't start twice (bad ground once, the other was a gremlin that went away)... and lost the timing belt another trip. Lets just say while I love camping my car hates it ;)

I read your mom's journal, and something was interesting to me...one of your family members asked her if she'd ever been out of her home county for more than two weeks running and the answer was no...well, tell her not to feel too bad about that, I've traveled all over and the only times I spent more than two weeks away from my home county was the time I spent the summer in Kansas, and another time I spent a month at my grandparent's in Tennessee. So it's no big deal.

Good luck you two!

he's off!
An update from Mrs. MileMonster-
MM and mom started the AT today and now have about fifteen lovely miles behind them. They started on the approach trail, met some light snow/sleet at the AT trailhead, and set up camp at Hawk Mt. Off to a good start!

crossing into NC!
Talked to MM this AM. They hiked from Uricoi Gap to Dick's Creek Gap yesterday and stayed at the highly recommended Blueberry Patch Hostel. Since they started Tuesday AM, they have been covering about 15 miles a day. They head into NC today and are debating whether to keep going to Standing Indian. They're doing well.
