update from Mrs. MM
Hi, folks!
Check out Double Nickels' log on Trail Journals. She updated it through May 28th.
They have hiked more than 3/4's of the trail. Very soon, they'll be in NH with only 2 more states to go!! I hope I can get away to hike in the Whites with them.
I asked MM if he would miss it when he's done. He said that he would miss the hiking and there were things that he would miss and things he wouldn't-- he won't miss the bugs, he will be glad to have a bed, he'll miss the many orange salamanders he has seen on the northern trails, he will miss living simply in the quiet world of the AT.

lord knows you dont. the first half, anyway.

anyway, i continue to be in awe of mm and dn. the mileage they do isnt as hard as being able to do it day after day after day. theyre not really doing mega-miles, theyre just not having any short days. and whats really difficult for me is pulling out of town when i come in for re-supply.

I hear it can be strange when you get home. A couple of people I heard about camped out in their backyards for a few weeks to get used to civilization again, <G>

update
Hi, everyone. Just wanted to let you know that DN has updated fully her journal at Trail Journals. They are moving along and are enjoying New Hampshire--yippee! Just two states to go! My poor mother in law has really been getting beaten up on the trail-- not from the miles (because she is doing great!) but from a series of falls and mishaps. But she is still loving it and no serious injuries.

I hope they stay safe. Her last update mentioned being super careful the closer they get to Maine.

Man, I wish I'd known you were going to be in Hanover early this week. I could have offered our place to stay, a hot meal, laundry, internet access and rides. Sorry, I should have been paying more attention.

Good luck!

from Mrs. MM
55 is right and no steroids- just a lot of vitamins and vitamin M. Amazing, isn't it?!
DN and MM are in the Whites so it may be a while before the next update. Yesterday they did around 23 miles with a steep climb at the end. They had full packs so it was a workout. I can't believe they are almost done!
Thanks to everyone for your interest and support. I'm sorry they missed you, skiracer, but thanks anyway. I've been impressed by the wonderful hospitality of folks along the trail- rides, treats, places to stay. DN and MM have really appreciated it. Enjoy the trail, Crash Bang. Sometimes I wonder if DN an MM are rushing through (although I'll be glad when he's home). Virginia (my home state) is a great place to spend some time.

Hey folks, MM here.

I hope everyone is doing well and having a good summer. Any big TraiTalk blowouts this summer yet?

Things here on the trail are going well. We pulled into Andover, Maine today. We're staying at The Cabin. this place is super nice and the folks here are great. As everyone said it would, the hiking has gotten pretty tough. The Whites were hard but beautiful. One of my favorite days on the trail was the Presidentials this past week. This was immediately followed with my least favorite day, on the next day, the stretch out of Pinkham Notch headed north over the Carters. And, as we were warned, southern Maine is harder than the Whites.

But we're surviving and thriving. The Mahoosucs (including the Mahoosuc Notch and the tough haul up Mahoosuc Arm) are behind us. We've seen so many wonderful things since I last had a chance to get online. I don't have much time now, though. I'll try to fill in the story later. Can you believe it? We're in Maine now!! The trail before us is getting shorter.

Take care everyone. Thanks for the continued interest.

Peace.
MM.

So, since you are so early, do you plan to turn around and head south? Why not? A day on the trail beats a day in the office anytime. The more time on the trail the better, IMHO.

if they were in andover 6/26, they should be REALLY close to finishing if they maintain the kind of pace they have. thats 256 miles, something they could probably knock out in a couple of weeks, and its been 16 days. ill go check trailjournals, but i have a feeling theyre done. congrats in advance, guys. im jealous
