Non-Stick Cook PotView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 33 of 33 messages posted.
“My dad has this pot right now. I borrowed it and burned something into the bottom that I cannot get out. So, now I want to replace it. But, I wanna get him something that won't stick. What's your favorite non stick cook pot. Approx 1 quart (1000 ml) in size. ??? Aluminum, Steel, Titanium, whatever. I don't want it to be really heavy, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg, either. Thanks!” 1:42:39 PM 3/08/04 “I use the Primus LITECH Trek kettle and like it a lot. Its one liter and made of hard anodized aluminum. I can't vouch for its "non-stick" characteristics as I use it mainly to boil water for cooking in ziplock bags. Here it is at bbinkley's store: kettle” 1:55:23 PM 3/08/04 “I like the GSI hard anodized aluminum cookware. It's almost Boy Scout proof.” 2:05:10 PM 3/08/04 “What dollar amount do you consider an arm and leg to be? Evernew 0.9 L or 1.3L Ti cookpots are my favs.” 2:09:30 PM 3/08/04 “Hmmm... Well, it's my dad so I can he's worth more than an arm and a leg. I'd like to keep it under $40 bucks or so. The one he had was much cheaper but I've rendered it almost useless!” 2:12:17 PM 3/08/04 Soooooo...You Burnt Pot, Eh? “I can't believe you burnt yer water...again!” 2:15:41 PM 3/08/04 “Tara, if you just burned something into the SS try cooking vinegar. Put the pot on a simmer with enough vinegar to cover the burn and it should eventually come off.” 2:16:28 PM 3/08/04 2:16:35 PM 3/08/04 Yeah, I burnt pot! lol “Dork... You were there. I burnt the pie filling. There's still some stuck to the bottom that refuses to come off.” 2:16:54 PM 3/08/04 “I second lthiker's vinegar solution. I've just soaked burnt pots w/ a little vinegar and salt for a few hours, then the burned gunk wipes right off.” 2:18:11 PM 3/08/04 “LtHiker - I'll try that tonight. Thanks. That's sure gonna make the house stink. yuc” 2:18:21 PM 3/08/04 I Can Assure You "It Was Worth It!" “Dork... You were there." tarabull 02:16:54 PM 03/08/04 Keeeeeripes woman, that was, well, a while ago. Are the dishes in yer sink pileing up, or what???” 2:29:47 PM 3/08/04 “lol. Nah, the dishes aren't piling up. I've tried soaking, washing, scrubbing and nothing got the black junk off the bottom. I finally gave up and decided I needed to buy him a new one so I posted here. I'm gonna try that vinegar idea out first.” 2:31:28 PM 3/08/04 “lol at Buddur I have to do that almost everytime my wife cooks” 2:31:48 PM 3/08/04 “Those Stowaway pots are kinda heavy... but they're mouseproof.” 2:52:36 PM 3/08/04 “I have the MSR Blacklite pots (aluminum non-stick). REI has them for 35 bucks I think, which includes the 2.0 and 1.5 liter pots, a lid that fits both, and the pot grabber. They say all of that weighs 18 oz. I also have the frying pan (10 bucks or so). I usually only take just one of the pots, since I only use one stove at a time, but I have brought a pot and the frying pan at times. I like 'em so far....” 2:54:54 PM 3/08/04 Non-Stick My Arse! “I remember when I first used the frying pan of my MSR Blacklite pot set. I burnt something that ended up sticking, and when I was home and tried scrubbing it off I almost scrubbed off the non-stick surface. So I kinda know how you feel.” 2:55:31 PM 3/08/04 “Non stick alluminum 1 qt. pot at WalMart $1.88.” 2:56:23 PM 3/08/04 “Oooo, I haven't had that happen, buddur. Kinda sounds like operator error.... ;-)” 2:56:50 PM 3/08/04 I Ani't Spending No More Money On Pots “btw - I still have and use the Blacklite pots and am happy with them (aside from that one incident).” 2:57:16 PM 3/08/04 “I think the Walmart pot weighs about 4oz.” 2:59:08 PM 3/08/04 I Now Use Cooking Oil With Non-Stick Pots “lol, BowlderMan, it certainly was operator error. And I learned a big lesson that day...crap really can stick to non-stick surfaces!!!” 2:59:57 PM 3/08/04 “I guess I shouldn't ridicule you too much, since most of the "cooking" I do on the trail amounts to just boiling water....” 3:01:59 PM 3/08/04 “LtHiker and Yam... Thanks, guys My house smells awful and I still have black gunk stuck to the bottom of the pot.” 3:52:25 PM 3/08/04 “goof!! When I soak it, i set it outside....” 3:53:47 PM 3/08/04 “When you get the pot for your dad, maybe you should get yourself a cookbook?” 4:04:21 PM 3/08/04 “Ooooh Ouch! lol You'd be eating those words if you had a piece of the pie I made, redhawk. :-)” 4:52:19 PM 3/08/04 “TB - To save that pot, put some water in it and heat it op on the stove, gently. It'll come right off. Not to say that there won't be a little mark or two, but I've gotten some real bad stuff baked in my alum pot before and that did the trick. While it gets warm, start flaking off the stuf unil it finally all comes out. As for a pot, I've ruined a evernew Ti pot on my Pocket Rocket when I tried to simmer a meal. Seems as thought the radius of the burner (being small) played a roll in that. Plus, that Ti metal is real thin and the non stick stuff is really weak on it too. I only try to boil, or cook my eggs (which never cleans up well, unless I use hot water to clean it up) Cupp uses a 10 cheapie Non stick pot from REI. He really likes it and it cleans up real spiffie too!” 5:23:54 PM 3/08/04 “Sorry Tara, you could also try red wine, what you are trying to do is deglaze the pan. It should work. Also I have heard that cooking tomatoe sauce in a burnt pan wil clean it up. something about the acid in the tomatoes.” 8:14:05 AM 3/09/04 “I burnt/scorched something pretty badly to the bottom of my (MSR) SS cookpot once. I also thought I had ruined it. The vinegar worked (eventually) although I had to soak it overnight and then scrape it with a spoon and then a Brillo pad to get it off. Lots of profanity helps.” 8:44:21 AM 3/09/04 “I read something in this Sunday's paper about getting burnt stuff off a pot with vinegar. It involved something more than just heating up the vinegar and then letting it sit, I think. I'll go to the recycling bin this evening and find the article and post what it says.” 8:58:13 AM 3/09/04 “LtHiker - I'll try that tonight. Thanks. That's sure gonna make the house stink. yuc" tarabull 02:18:21 PM 03/08/0 EWwwwww!!!! Nothing like your house smelling like a big ol' douche!” 9:03:29 AM 3/09/04 “Now you'll have to come over here and clean off my 'puter, WE! Coffee is everywhere....” 9:11:20 AM 3/09/04
