What about a NE trip in April?View Messages“I was just looking at the trips page and there are no trips planned for April. whats up with that? April is a great time to go Backpacking in the NE unless you are afraid of those April showers. Anyone up for a trip? Maybe Catskills or PA.” 10:31:47 AM 3/09/04 “April showers? Like Pennsy and the spring?” 10:33:21 AM 3/09/04 “do PA!” 10:33:50 AM 3/09/04 “Yeah, y'all can go to Pennsylvania for all I care!” 10:35:51 AM 3/09/04 “ok but not the 3rd-birthday party not the 30th-kayaking trip to VT. other then that im cool.” 10:39:06 AM 3/09/04 “I generally avoid hiking the ADK's in April because it's mud season. I don’t mind muddy boots, but hiking during mud season does a lot of damage to the trails.” 10:39:30 AM 3/09/04 “oh wait, im in school on Sat's now. oh well (sniff) have fun” 10:40:34 AM 3/09/04 “mapleleaf, who's 3rd birthday? You got a kid I don't know about?” 10:41:35 AM 3/09/04 “no its twignuts 16. i sent you an invite online.” 10:43:07 AM 3/09/04 “Yeah lumberzac, and it sucks too!” 10:43:36 AM 3/09/04 “We could always do the Bradley Pond trail. lol” 10:45:01 AM 3/09/04 “marko you have mail” 10:46:21 AM 3/09/04 “That is true Zac, but alot of the trails in the catskills don't have any dirt so there can't be much mud. LOL I have always wanted to do the Loop of Wittenberg, Cornell, Slide and Giant Ledge. I think it is about 17 miles I will have to check. It would be a tough 17 miles climbing 3- 3500+ peaks. Scorchie, the Catskills aren't that far what like 2.5 hours from you. So much nicer than PA (sorry Jmitch) and they are sort of in the middle for me(and I am organizing this : P). Alright now lets pick a 3 day weekend. The mileage is doable in 2 days but I think it would be more enjoyable in 3 we could park at Woodland Valley campground. Friday night between Slide Mtn and Cornell, I think there is a spring there. Saturday night on Giant Ledge, Sunday hike back to Woodland Valley. These mtns are great, awesome Vistas and beatiful scenery. Maybe still some snow, although they didn't get much this year.” 10:49:33 AM 3/09/04 “Bradley Pond....OK! Thanks mapleleaf!” 10:54:12 AM 3/09/04 “Sounds interesting. I've lived in NY all my life, been hiking for most of it, and I still haven't hiked in the Cat's.” 10:54:38 AM 3/09/04 “"Bradley Pond....OK! Thanks mapleleaf!" MarkO 10:54:12 AM 03/09/04 ignore this user I'll have to invest in some SCUBA gear.” 10:57:29 AM 3/09/04 “I already ordered up a trail map to check out the 70 mile Laurel Highland Trail in PENNSYLVANIA because I was thinking about going there myself Between April 23 to April 30. http://64.4.46.250/cgi-bin/linkrd?_lang=EN&lah=5ef6b2badc983400cc03333ed65a75f6&lat=1078850736&hm___action=http%3a%2f%2ffriends%2ebackcountry%2enet%2flht%2f” 10:58:59 AM 3/09/04 “Wouldn't that be SCUMBA gear, zac?” 11:04:21 AM 3/09/04 “mark you have mail AGAIN!” 11:06:42 AM 3/09/04 “MarkO, I think you're on to something. I can't wait to hit that trail again (maybe in August).” 11:08:52 AM 3/09/04 “Self Contained Under Mud Breathing Apparatus” 11:56:19 AM 3/09/04 “Sounds like something you'd use with Scorchy...” 11:57:33 AM 3/09/04 “go on my mid state trail trip. it's in march, close enough.” 12:00:46 PM 3/09/04 “Sorry fellers, I'll be in West Virginia March 19-20-21. Please take Scorchie with you!” 12:06:18 PM 3/09/04 “I'm thinking of doing a PA. overnight to include the new land that the state bought that added to the Pinchot Trail sometime soon. Since a lot of the hike is a bushwhack, I'd like to do it before everthing grows in.” 12:17:02 PM 3/09/04 “Would we be going to the sandhills of NE? I like the Niobrara River area. :-) LOL!” 12:18:04 PM 3/09/04 “Lizs .......WTF? anybody for the Catskills Loop?” 12:30:38 PM 3/09/04 “LOL! You said "NE".... that's Nebraska in my area. ;-)” 12:32:18 PM 3/09/04 “You should come out here hiking. We will show you a good time.” 12:43:56 PM 3/09/04 “No liz, we're not talkin' about Cornfield County.” 12:44:20 PM 3/09/04 “phhhhhhhhht, Mr. Two-Named Man!! lol” 12:45:28 PM 3/09/04 “actually, i've read the niobrara river is a really beautiful place. isn't there a waterfall there, smith falls?” 12:46:24 PM 3/09/04 “Hey Lt, good idea! Let's lure the "hick chick" east and show her a good time.” 12:46:34 PM 3/09/04 “You got it liz, I can talk out of both sides of my..........personality.” 12:47:54 PM 3/09/04 “East is where all the fun is.” 1:12:12 PM 3/09/04 “You guys are going to destroy my life. You know who you are.” 3:29:02 PM 3/09/04 “Lt - Wittenberg, Cornell, and Slide is a great loop from Woodland Valley. It's about 14 miles, and adding the out and back to Giant Ledge would get you the 17 miles you mentioned. Keep in mind that I did this loop 2 years ago in April and crampons were a necessity the entire time above 3000 ft. I'm probably good for the first and last weekends in April. Easter weekend is no good and I might be doing something the following weekend. I'd like to get up Giant Ledge again because the one time I did it with M_Silver and Artex, it was at night and missed out on the great vistas.” 3:42:30 PM 3/09/04 “Hmmm maybe the last weekend in April. It might have warmed up enough by then to not need crampons the whole time.” 5:58:55 PM 3/09/04 “Definitely interested” 6:57:58 PM 3/09/04 “So when is this going to be up on the trips page?” 7:14:39 AM 3/10/04 “"LOL! You said "NE".... that's Nebraska in my area. ;-)" lizs 12:32:18 PM 03/09/04 Could it be that NE = New England?” 7:50:18 AM 3/10/04 “New England is nice. Northern New England is better.” 7:54:30 AM 3/10/04 “I'm getting the shakes. I NEED to get my fix.” 7:59:59 AM 3/10/04 “Uh... I'm getting (wait for it) HOOOOOOORNEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!” 8:01:53 AM 3/10/04 “Oh............my goodness!” 8:08:18 AM 3/10/04 “Ok I will get it up on the trips page today. Gremlin keep it in your shorts ok!” 8:32:12 AM 3/10/04 “MarkO- luckily, I live in Northern New England.” 10:35:54 AM 3/10/04 “skiracer, you are not a M#&%!$?” 10:43:59 AM 3/10/04 “That is to say, "Ma$$hole"” 10:44:39 AM 3/10/04 “Nope...live in NH.” 10:45:20 AM 3/10/04
