I was just looking at the trips page and there are no trips planned for April. whats up with that? April is a great time to go Backpacking in the NE unless you are afraid of those April showers.
Anyone up for a trip? Maybe Catskills or PA.

I generally avoid hiking the ADK's in April because it's mud season. I don’t mind muddy boots, but hiking during mud season does a lot of damage to the trails.

That is true Zac, but alot of the trails in the catskills don't have any dirt so there can't be much mud. LOL

I have always wanted to do the Loop of Wittenberg, Cornell, Slide and Giant Ledge. I think it is about 17 miles I will have to check. It would be a tough 17 miles climbing 3- 3500+ peaks.

Scorchie, the Catskills aren't that far what like 2.5 hours from you. So much nicer than PA (sorry Jmitch) and they are sort of in the middle for me(and I am organizing this : P). Alright now lets pick a 3 day weekend.

The mileage is doable in 2 days but I think it would be more enjoyable in 3 we could park at Woodland Valley campground. Friday night between Slide Mtn and Cornell, I think there is a spring there. Saturday night on Giant Ledge, Sunday hike back to Woodland Valley. These mtns are great, awesome Vistas and beatiful scenery. Maybe still some snow, although they didn't get much this year.

I'm thinking of doing a PA. overnight to include the new land that the state bought that added to the Pinchot Trail sometime soon. Since a lot of the hike is a bushwhack, I'd like to do it before everthing grows in.

Lt - Wittenberg, Cornell, and Slide is a great loop from Woodland Valley. It's about 14 miles, and adding the out and back to Giant Ledge would get you the 17 miles you mentioned.

Keep in mind that I did this loop 2 years ago in April and crampons were a necessity the entire time above 3000 ft.

I'm probably good for the first and last weekends in April. Easter weekend is no good and I might be doing something the following weekend.

I'd like to get up Giant Ledge again because the one time I did it with M_Silver and Artex, it was at night and missed out on the great vistas.

Hmmm maybe the last weekend in April. It might have warmed up enough by then to not need crampons the whole time.
