We call it like we see it on TT.

This ain't backpacker.com.

I'm sure your packs are very nice for the uses you designed them for, but I looked at them, they didn't meet MY needs, are way heavy, and the 'racing' stripe across the back struck me as ugly.

Give The Guy A Break
WOW!!! Some of you can sure be cruel. Honest, maybe? But that doesn't make it right.

I'll bet if you guys started a gear business, your first models would look unlike more-established manufacturer's gear. And I'd bet that if you kept at the business, your gear would improve with time. Why do I get the feeling most gear manufacturers started out this way??? Constructive criticism is a good thing, but if you don't have something to say that'll help in a positive way, shut yer cakeholes.

More power to ya, adventuremaster. Don't let these ultralight pantywastes get you down.

For what it is worth, I like the packs. I could have used something this size at Philmont on Day 4 when we picked up more food. The black one looks cool.

I love the quote from backpacker.com:

"7400 cubic inches? That's miles of space"

No, miles measure distance, not volume.

But I wouldn't expect that crowd to know the diff.

OK, some constructive criticism. If I want a 1044 ci pack, I can get one that weighs 24 oz. Actually, the Equinox Katahdin will expand to 2800 ci. I will NEVER have need of a pack with a 7400 ci capacity (unless Mother G wants to cook paella on the trail again...shudder). I can stay out for 2 weeks with my Osprey Aether, which weighs 3 lb., 6 oz. After that, I would arrange to resupply. Your packs are heavy and impractical for me.

Dear AdventureMaster:

1. Understand that offering a gear deal on Trail Talk implicitly exposes your gear to skeptical examination. While you may not appreciate the curt, hostile, ridiculing or snide responses to your offer, these responses come from a group that -- despite its excursions to the depths of innanity on religion, politics and jello -- takes gear extremely seriously. You better be as tough as you claim your gear is. Should someone take you up on your offer and find your packs are less that suitable, what you have heard so far is tame. If, on the other hand, someone of good reputation on this board (i.e., a real gear ho who uses gear under demanding conditions) were to give you a good review, it would be taken seriously.

2. Those legging things are called "gaiters." Don't make it sound like you invented the wheel when you just call it by another name. It also is somewhat clueless not to understand that there is an already established category of gear of which there are many iterations. This doesn't help your enterprise's credibility.

3. Apologies to Ice Tea and others on this site (heck, I was a BSA member from 8-17 and made Life, so I can say this), but having Eagle Scouts help you figure out your gear is not the blessing you may think. I knew Eagle Scouts who were much better at exploiting the organizational system of the BSA than they were at camping. I also have known Eagles who were more on the Darth Vader side of things, using their knowledge for less than good (well if you wanted to learn to drink and smoke, it was good), and I even once knew an Eagle who had a 30-cal water-cooled machine gun in his basement. Now everyone knows that is just too heavy for the trail!!!

4. 5 lbs for a big backpack is relative, but if you checked all the gear threads for pack discussions, you'll see that the focus here has been more and more on light to ultralite packs.

5. Let's face it, that red pack with the big stripe across it not only is aesthetically challenged, but the extra sewing/construction to put the various-colored panels together must add cost and weight. As the Talking Heads sang, "This ain't no disco."

Remember, the modern world is a dangerous place, especially for entrepreneurs who have not sufficiently researched the marketplace. Even gear ho's have some standards when asked to put out.

Sorry AdventureMaster. The yuppies here wouldn’t want to be seen at the local park in an ‘ugly’ pack – even if it were free. You’ll have to look elsewhere to find actual backpackers.

Adventuremaster
I'll take you up on your offer. And, I'll throw in two well endowed hot chicks to model your packs. I'll make em' wear braided pigtails and the whole nine.

The catch is, I want 10% of your profits for the first 2 years of business, creative input into future product design, $5,000 (each) signing bonus for this photoshoot, and we want to keep the gear.

I look forward to doing business with you.

Those packs didn't look too bad. I just don't need one that big. On typical trips my total weight is around 20#'s. My pack weighs 20 oz instead of 80oz.
