Like I said strat, discouraged workers and those working part-time who would prefer full-time work are reported in the BLS data every month. No need to go searching to see what the bloggers think would look worse.

2011 was the first year since 2005 that we had employment gains every single month.

In my view, 15 straight months of job gains is a good thing, particularly since public employment has been shrinking. Although total employment gains for 2011 were 1.6 million, the private sector added an impressive 1.9 million jobs.

Those hoping for bad news before the election may certainly view things differently.

Hey V, just curious, what policy of this administration do you credit for creating these jobs?

Just curious - where did I say that the Obama administration was responsible for creating these jobs?

I have said elsewhere, and will repeat here, that despite the stimulus being too small and wasting money on fairly ineffective tax breaks, it did help stave off a second great depression.

Not in housing. Housing has always pulled this country out of every recession and it has always started in California each time, but not this time.

Wonder what the next two month extension of payroll taxes will cost?

Important to note that half of all mortgages are GSEs.

No V , wrong. Reality matters and you're not looking at reality. But I guess that makes you feel better somehow so go for it man.
I'll admit that things are quite as bleak as they were when the D's controlled congress. Good thing the Tea Party made such huge gains I'm 2010 and stopped the bleeding.....I predict the trend will continue in 2012.

Read the link a above strat.. your "tea party" congress tacked .1% tax on half the mortgages in the country for ten years to pay for payroll tax cuts for two months...to buy votes. Same ole, same ole..

That's against Grover's knowKnewHaxTike, this is now An Official Tea Pa(R)ticle Violation. Wait until Newt's anti capitalist smear campaign against that nice Mormom Boy starts up in SC. Newt's going to want to be Obama's Anti Capitalist VP in 2012.

OK Strat, I'll lead you to it.

The BLS publishes six different measures of unemployment, U-1 through U-6. U-3 is the "official" unemployment rate.

Go to the link I posted above: http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/print.pl/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

Scroll down to the bottom and follow the link to Table A-15. Alternative measures of labor underutilization.

See U-4 through U-6 and how they include discouraged workers and those working part-time that would rather be working full-time?

You might also notice that these alternate measures move pretty much lock-step with U-3, so for comparison purposes, U-3 is superior as it has the longest history.

If you'd rather focus on the broadest measure, U-6, note that it has declined 140 basis points from a year ago - even better than U-3.

You might also look at Table A-12. Unemployed persons by duration of unemployment. See how the number of people unemployed for over 27 weeks has declined from last year?

There's really quite a bit of good news there if you care to look objectively.

I know it runs counter to your fantasy of hyper-inflation, economic collapse and the end of civilization, but that's the way it is.

Sorry things didn't work out as miserably as you'd hoped.

So what is it the real number? I just posted 3 reputable sources that range from 11-16%. maybe last yer it was 11.25-16.5%? I googled "real umpoyment rate" and those were 3 out of the top 5 that came up. The next one tagged it at 20%. It took about 45 seconds, no digging needed. And I never said I want bad things to happen. I said Oblama and the progressive machine wants bad things to happen. It's how they get elected. It's how they grow government. It's how they scare people into voting for them so they can pass bill after bill that are 2599 pages long and destroy our liberty. It's how they get away with unsustainable spending that can only end in complete disaster. If that's what I wanted, I'd keep quiet and vote for them. Or I'd be like you and cheer them on. I'm warning people of the obvious inevitability, so they won't be caught off guard. You're pretending everything's cool and giving people a false sence of security.

Well, do you trust those who have spent Billions to buy out the government, like the Koch Bros.? If a car runs over you do you blame the car or the driver?

Demofools in charge of city?
When your city falls on hard financial times you have to cut back on a few luxuries like extra police, library operating hours, democracy--you know, little stuff like that

Seeing how quickly bacpac and Strad00d jumped on last weeks spike in unemployment filings, I figured they would have posted this week's numbers by now.

Hmmm... I wonder why not...

Unemployment claims at 352,000, fewest since 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of people seeking unemployment benefits plummeted last week to 352,000, the fewest since April 2008. The decline added to evidence that the job market is strengthening.

Applications fell 50,000, the biggest drop in the seasonally adjusted figure in more than six years, the Labor Department said Thursday. The four-week average, which smooths out fluctuations, dropped to 379,000. That's the second-lowest such figure in more than three years.

1.Because I have a life
2.Because I don't think 350K new unemployment applications is good news
3.Because time after time after time they come back a few weeks later and say "oops the numbers weren't quite as good as we thought"
4.Because the numbers don't reflect the real unemployment percentages accurately anyway
5.Because you're wearing that shirt with those shoes
