To drive the powerful hydraulics necessary for heavy lifting BLEEX has a small purpose built combustion engine built into it. On a full tank the system should be able to run for as long as two hours.

i.e. exhaust fumes

Someday, though, my lifelong dream of having a pack that walks along behind you will be realized.

I've always believed, though some have mocked me.

I've mocked you, but only privately.

A walking backpack would be nice, but it wold be better if it looked like a supermodel and dispensed beer.

Don't let Pennsy see this.

If it has an internal-combustion engine in it, you can't use it in Wilderness Areas.

I believe versions of this have existed for a long time, Geo. They are called "horse" or "llama." You may have heard of them....

I heard somewhere that a goat would be much better.... and the cost must be much cheaper..
everyone could have their own goat.. hee hee. and they do not poop as much as a dog.. you do not have to pack any food, they will eat everything in sight..

No BowlderMan, I'm thinking of a pack that does not eat or crap.

Phaedrus' idea looks good for the Mark II version. We're onto something here Phaedy! The market is there. Maybe I should talk to the guy who posted about free packs.

The concept of a surplus weather balloon tied to your pack has always seemed like a good idea to me for those treeless and windless backpack trips we are always going on. ;-)

maybe a gearless hike would be easier...

hike naked and catch/gather your food, use sticks for utensils, etc etc.

Be careful what you wish for. Something like this could make the backcountry more accessible and therefore more crowded.

I have wanted a backpack like Rufo carried in Heinlein's 'Glory Road' when I first read it in the 60's as a kid.
Rufo could pull out anything from that pack for Star and Scar and then just keep folding it up into itself till it was very very very very small and light. ;-)

Trying to remember if I've read "Glory Road" or not...

It was Heinlien's only pure fantasy novel. Pub in 1963.
Lot's of sex in it for the time.
If you had read it, you would remember.

This contraption ought to keep the country's podiatrists busy. Can you say 'plantar fasciitis', boys and girls?

Bit
The book slipped into our school library because up to that point, Heinlien's SF books were written for the teen SF audience. I think this book was written right after 'Stranger In A Strange Land', and he wrote for an more adult SF audience from then on.
It's one of the Classic Heinlien SF books and a fav on my own.
Find a copy and read it. You'll enjoy it.

what happens when it breaks down, i'll stick to what i can carry on my back, now i wish that they would just make every thing eles lighter ie a 0 degree bag that was 2oz or a two person 3 season tent for 6oz and a stove and cook set for another 5oz this would work for me,
