I saw a TV bit yesterday about the solution to all the IT jobs being outsourced to India.

Pay India wages here.

No kidding, enought IT pros were out of work and accepted the 40K (what it costs to outsource) job offers for this one start up company.

This is the wave of the future no matter whatever 'party' comes in. :(

Nobody seems concerned about illegal immigration or job outsourcing until it hits home. It's time to stem the tide right now.

I heard today, from an IRS agent no less, that some of the large CPA firms are outsorucing income tax prep to India. They basically ship off the keypunch operation and then print and review the forms here once they got them keyed in over there. This is keeping LOTS of college accounting majors from getting some good experience while still in school AND making those very important inroads to a good job after school.

I really was shocked that's its hitting CPA firms too.

Fox news last night ran a story about Bush getting ready to push his amensty bill again. He wants to give 8-10 million Mexicans amensty plus create a temporary worker bill.

The only states in favor of it are the border states.

One Republican Senator from indiana said Bush will have a hard time passing this. He went on to say that if it passes it could be the end of the middle class folks in this country.

Fox News or anyone else has yet to put it on there website.

this website has some info on it plus you can sign a petition that will go to your Senator to reject this bill

If you are not going to enforce a law, it should be repealed. We need to decide. Are we going to enforce immigration law or not? I am not for rewarding those that broke our law by coming or staying here illegally and punishing those that sit patiently in their native countries waiting for permission to immigrate. I don’t know the details of this proposal but either open the door or close it. I get tried of the politician’s game of passing law to please one group then not enforcing it to please the other group.

That “end of the middle class folks in this country” stuff is nonsense. We are a country of immigrants. Immigrants can be good for the country. It may be true that you can’t make $70,000 an year working on an assembly line. So get an education, our economy is changed. Not much need for buggy whip makers anymore.

There are a lot of perspectives on this issue. It would be refreshing to see a genuine discussion of pro's and con's. The border states may favor amnesty because they are closer to the situation.

I don't know how many illegal Mexicans live in those border states but I know Tenn. has way to many. The Mexican population has grown like crazy over the past few yrs.

Parts of Nashville are nothing but Mexican communities now.

I just wonder how many jobs are being taken at lower wages from people who want to work but can't afford to take a pay cut because the Mexicans are working cheap.

To offset their low wages they rent homes and pile 10-20 into each house. It is easy to live with 10-20 people chipping in on expensives. Plus most are getting food stamps.

How about building a 'great wall' to keep them out.

I mean you get so tired of hearing what a great wall the chinese have. The Romans built walls (2) to keep the Scots out of England, The Israelis are building a wall to keep the Palestinians out, The Soviets built a wall to keep people in, where is the American wall ??
America put people on the moon, should be able to build a great wall of America that can be seen from outer space.

Think of the employment opportunities, designers, architects, peons.

(- for the humor challenged - this entire post is in jest -)

Hispanics voted 60-40 Democratic in the presidential election. Many are focused in states like Arizona and New Mexico that are trending more Democratic. Bush is probably trying to even the Hispanic vote. However, at current rates this would result in a net gain of 2 million Democratic votes.

The ironic thing is that legal immigrants are some of the biggest opponents to our lackluster immigration laws. It hurts them the most because their nitch is undermined by illegal immigrants.

I kind of look at illegal immigrant amnesty in the same type of light as when Saddam emptied his prisons..."OK, we can see there's too many bad people breaking the law so your all free and we'll start from scratch!". It would be interesting to see what the cost comparison is between this whole new system and what that amount might do if put towards simply enforcing the existing laws.

If the legal Mexicans voted that way find but were not talking about legal Mexicans, were talking about illegal Mexicans. If this bill even gets close to being adopted the number of them crossing the borders will be outrageous. Be prepared for an invasion if that happens.

If companies who hire illegal aliens or pay them under the table would get a huge fine that might stop some of it but I doubt it.

How many of you, or your friends and family, have applied for a minimum wage job at a fast food restaurant and not gotten it because of an illegal immigrant? How many of you eat at fast food restaurants? It might be most effective to boycott businesses that hire illegals. It would at least lower your cholesterol.

In the long term, immigration helps to increase the population. This helps to support programs like social security. And making illegals legal stops the under the table non social security payments.

Save Social Security.

the last time I went into a McDonalds the Mexican lady behind the counter had no idea what I wanted. She couldn't speak any English at all. Finally the store manager came over and translated my order to her.
I guess I was the only English speaking person to come into that McDonalds.

What is wrong with that picture. If I was in another country on a vacation I could understand but not here.

reformed lurker, that's fine to increase immigration if you do it legally. Just don't grant amensty to those who came into this country illegally.

It is an insult to those who did it the correct way.

In 1992, Paola paid $5,000 to a "guide" and joined a group leaving El-Salvadore for the US. pretty sure that was non-refundable.

They traveled at night, trying to avoid all contact. Who knows how dangerous this is? How many people die trying?

They crossed the border in 17 days and she settled down in San Diego. She could not find work that paid well (think all she could do was "cleaning work") so she moved to the East Coast.

In DC she found a job as a cook. Went from cook to busperson to server to manager.

She married an American and had two children. She is a citizen now. Before the children were 2yrs old her American husband left her.

Without his income she took on a second job cleaning office buildings in the morning and working as a restaurant manager at night. She has relatives/friends who take turns watching her kids.

Never been on Welfare or unemployment and pays her taxes.

Don't understand "American" thinking. Based on fear, paranoia, and hype.

And before anyone criticizes illegal immigrants then please offer proof that your relatives got into this country legally.

That would also include not paying anyone off.

Drug runners do the same thing. Let's pardon them too. Millions of other types of criminals work hard and pay their taxes too. Doesn't mean they still aren't criminals.

I'm sorry, Nigal. You have obviously been personally hurt by these hardened crimminals. Some illegals beat you up when you were young? Maybe some Mexican bandits road into town and shot up your house?

BTW - can you offer proof that your ancestory is "clean"?

And comparing them to drug runners is BS.

bm, what part of illegal do you not understand.

from dictionary.com

il·le·gal
adj.
Prohibited by law.
Prohibited by official rules: an illegal pass in football.
Unacceptable to or not performable by a computer: an illegal operation.

n.
An illegal immigrant.

Agreed.
Change the immigation law, and move the INS agents into a new division of the IRS, checking that all employers are paying at least minimum wages to Non Citizen (NC) employees, withholding the appropriate taxes, and that all NC employees are filing Tax returns...

Prior to the above, close down mail and wire transfers of money between Mexico and the US unless they pass through regulated Banks. (Inhibits the ability of illegals to support families in Mexico).
