Follow the law, we have the law, now enforce it. We don't need more violence. Spend the violence on the mexican upper class pigs that have built this mess, as is our 'haves 'in this country building the same. The USA wants to be another Mexico, or wait, maybe just be a part of it.

A fellow TT'er works as a billing coder/clerk for hospitals. She was telling me over the weekend that a hospital from Nashville has the patients listed by race.

They are as follows:
African American
Hispanic
Asian
Non-Hispanic

no mention of caucasian!! I guess now we are considered Non-Hispanic

Well, if you are white, and male, your catagory is: "The Man".

I have excellent grades, Dean list since I've been in school, Honor Society, graduated Magna Cum Laude at the Associates level.....and not one f---ing penny from the College in scholarships for this up coming school year. I have one, but that was just because I had all the above and I was a transfer student and only amounts to 750.00 per semester.

This "non-hispanic" doesn't understand why some people can't understand the meaning of illegal. Sure they are poor and need help but if a poor person kills your family member does the fact that they are poor make it less of a crime?

I sure have difficulty trying to understand your statement. I have indicated in bold all your terms that left me scratching my head. I think you're trying to get this thread into Fuego.

I have family members who are non-hispanic and some who are hispanic. Some could be considered either, depending upon the circumstances. (Several are dual-citizens.) Are you trying to indicate that all hispanic people are "poor?"

With some of my Chinese relatives the situation is more complex. They were born in China and are considered Chinese, or, possibly, English, too. From Hong Kong they have English Passports(in addition to other passports). Yet, some of them are citizens of both the US and Panama, also. I'm confusing myself! But I can state that they are wonderful relatives and are extremely close to me.

No. Everyone that I have talked to that is for letting illegal aliens stay in this country has said that the aliens (all nationalities) are just trying to make a living for their families and improve their life. It is usually implied that they are poor or seeking wealth. I fail to see why the pursuit of wealth would somehow justify them braking our immigration laws and not being held accountable.

I am all for Hispanics or any other group of people legally entering the US. I just don't want people to illegally enter the U.S. and have a red carpet rolled out for them like they didn’t do anything wrong.

I view it as taking some other crime such as, armed robbery, and saying, "Ah! Let 'em off!". I personally love the idea of more hard working freedom hungry immigrants coming to America and making it a stronger nation, but not when they do it illegally.

My impression is that, for a lot of people entering this country, they are entering for different reasons than the earlier immigrants. I agree with Nigal's statment - "I personally love the idea of more hard working freedom hungry immigrants coming to America and making it a stronger nation", but.. I think the reason that a lot of illegals are here is to TAKE what they can without considering their responsibility to give back & help build a stronger country. I sense they want to TAKE our health care, TAKE all the other benfits that U.S. citizens have, without GIVING BACK. If they believed in our system & wanted to fully participate, that means, in part, obeying the law! You can't do that if you're an illegal!

When we teach illegals to take from the taxpayer, they learn to short cut the system and start stealing directly from anyone that has what they want. If the border patrol and local police can't show progress , they simply learn that crime pays. But, then again, those who employ with illegal jobs, learn even faster as to how crime pays for them as well.

White Lies.
1. What has passed is past! Can't we just forgive, make amends and continue in a more reasonable manner?

2. We are guilty for much of this. Inefficient enforcement and looking the other way has encouraged outsiders to enter the country illegally.

3. So, if we are now going to enforce the laws, many of us should be prosecuted and jailed, too.

I once took a man, a US Citizen, into court about money. His primary crime was trying to protect and provide for his family as best as he could. I, finally, felt that I had to draw the line, when I realized that he was abusing my kindness. However, one does not know what it is really like until one has walked on the other side. Sometimes the path is not clearcut or easy to follow.

Have you never told a "white lie?"

When feelings dictate the law- the world will fill with drama queens. Or, has that happened? More importantly, the next time you go early to a movie and are first in the line, when the box office opens, they go back and sell tickets to the end of the line working toward you - maybe you'll think again about these cheaters.

Bush hails deal on immigration reform By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, Associated Press
31 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Key senators in both parties and the White House announced agreement Thursday on an immigration overhaul that would grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants already in the U.S. and fortify the border.

The plan would create a temporary worker program to bring new arrivals to the U.S and a separate program to cover agricultural workers. Skills and education-level would for the first time be weighted over family connections in deciding whether future immigrants should get permanent legal status. New high-tech employment verification measures also would be instituted to ensure that workers are here legally.....

The big thing I think won't work about this is the upfront fine. Each person I've heard on TV has said that the only ones who won't sign up are likely the ones with criminal records and people who have issues. I disagree, I don't see too many folks poneying up the $5k. And what's up with the person returning home and, "we'll let you back in," wink wink. I haven't read too much into this, but it sure seems that there are obvious holes in it.

Criticism slows work on immigration deal By JOHN HEILPRIN, Associated Press Writer
27 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Key senators and the White House are eager to push their bipartisan immigration deal through the Senate by Memorial Day, but as the Senate opened debate on the issue Monday, hope for that deadline was slipping.

Critics of the measure denounced its key elements, including its quick grant of legal status to millions of unlawful immigrants, and said they would seek to revise it.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (news, bio, voting record), R-Ala., said it was "unthinkable" that the Senate would complete the measure this week, issuing a thinly veiled filibuster threat should proponents try to speed it through....

I was just listening to him on C-SPAN.

Apparently no one has had time to actually go through it and a vote on the measure is being hurried up. It appears there will be no opportunity to debate any amendments.

It hasn't been scored by CBO (Congressional Budget Office) for cost and it's being couched as a 'draft' bill even though proponents want an up or down vote within the week.

Sessions said the bill that was defeated in the last congress was estimated to be a net cost to taxpayers of 120 billion over the first 10 years by CBO... and would rise precipitously in the following 10 years.

So much for the hype about more taxes coming in. I guess a net drain on the gov't is bad PR... So... no such estimates are forthcoming for this version.

Someone emailed this to me:

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue
Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the
Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process
for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to
illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the.
Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's
provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United
States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a
$2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a
good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started
before everyone figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes
every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of
taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can
apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result
for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local
emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped
paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could
save almost $10,000 a year. Another benefit in gaining illegal status
would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative
to her law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for
many colleges throughout the United States for my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden
of renewing my driver's license and making those burdens on car
insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have
college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal
(retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would
be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Donald Ruppert

Like you, I have serious concerns regarding S.1348. For that reason, I have pushed for an extended time frame to debate and amend this legislation, and fortunately that has occurred.

I am working with other Senators to alter this legislation. As this debate progresses, I will keep your thoughts in mind regarding this important issue.

Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with me over the next six years.

But, actually, the letter itself is sarcastic, attacking at various, questionable, governmental policies. For example, sarcasm is openly displayed in the statement, "(retroactively if possible)."

I tried to become a dual citizen between the U.S. and the Rep. of Panama, without losing my U.S. Citizenship. It cannot be accomplished with most countries of world. And the route to achieving such a goal, as in the letter, would not be acceptable by most people.

WASHINGTON - A fragile bipartisan compromise that would legalize millions of unlawful immigrants suffered a setback Thursday when it failed a test vote in the Senate, leaving its prospects uncertain.

Still, the measure — a top priority for President Bush that's under attack from the right and left — got a reprieve when Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record), D-Nev., said he would give it more time before yanking the bill and moving on to other matters.

"We need to complete this marathon," Reid said.

His decision set the stage for yet another procedural vote later Thursday that will measure lawmakers' appetite for a so-called "grand bargain" between liberals and conservatives on immigration.

By a vote of 33-63, the Senate fell far short of the 60 votes that would have been needed to limit debate on the immigration measure and put it on a path to passage. Republicans — even those who helped craft the measure and are expected to support it — banded together to oppose that move, while a majority of Democrats backed it.

Republicans were seeking assurances they would get chances to add several conservative-backed changes that would toughen the measure.

Proponents in both parties were scrambling to find a way of reversing a blow their compromise sustained earlier Thursday, when the Senate voted to phase out the bill's temporary worker program after five years.

The 49-48 vote just after midnight on making the temporary worker program itself temporary came two weeks after the Senate, also by a one-vote margin, rejected an amendment by Sen. Byron Dorgan (news, bio, voting record) to eliminate it entirely from the bill. The North Dakota Democrat says immigrants take many jobs Americans could fill.

Dorgan's success on his second effort dismayed backers of the immigration bill, which is loathed by many conservatives.

The bill would tighten borders, hike penalties for those who hire illegals and give many of the country's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants a pathway to legal status.

The Bush administration, along with business interests and their congressional allies, were already angry that the temporary worker program had been cut in half from its original 400,000-person-a-year target....
