SNake Eyes-MHH's hammock set-up..
I have a Byer of Maine hammock.
Moskito hammock from REI

I like hammock I can easily sit in with my feet on the ground so I can cook on the ground if it's pouring rain. I use Golite's Cave 1 in warm weather and the Cave 2 if it's cold and windy..I love playing with it..trying to guess how to set it up for maximum comfort and pleasure..I'm big on comfort and peasure. I like to sleep on a Therm-a-rest, full-sized Ultralite I've had for 10 years. I love my Golite Fur quilt..I'm waiting until Byer of Maine makes a hammock with no-see-um mesh but had no bug problems with the mosquito net..here's a picture of my set-up..

I'd be glad to answer any other questions you might have..I have maybe a half dozen hammocks..no, more..but only one I've camped in regularily..

what does WHAT weigh?
the hammock?
the whole set-up including thermarest, quilt, pillow;)..huh? huh? huh? I don't have it out right now..I suppose you could find the weights of the various, described objects in REI and Golite websites and add em up yourself..I think the hammock weighs a pound and the tarp 14oz but I'm not positive..of anything;)

Hi
Thanks for the info. I'm planning a thru hike of the AT in '05 and a hammock comes to mind. I'll ask more as I learn enough to figure out what the questions are.

That is similar to the set-up I use. I have the Byer traveller hammock (without the net) and use my own bug net. I think it weighs 12 oz sans bug net. I use a 1lb. Equinox 8x10 sil nylon tarp (from Binks Outfitters) Some climbing straps and two real carabiners rated at 400 lbs each. I use the 'biners to attach stuff to my pack. That way they serve two purposes. Haven't tried to set up with trekking poles yet.
