Be interesting to see how the McCain team respond.

I'm betting they're sitting there around a table saying: "We're gonna need a bigger distraction."

Obama rebounds in polls as economic crisis bites by Stephen Collinson
2 hours, 11 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democrat Barack Obama topped two key national polls Thursday which showed the financial crisis reverberating through the White House race and "Palin power" fading for the Republican ticket.

The Democratic hopeful, who has been lacerating rival John McCain over his capacity to rescue the US economy, led 49 to 45 percent in a new poll of likely voters nationwide by Quinnipiac University.

In a CBS/New York Times survey, Obama was up by 48 percent to 43 percent, with the race apparently reverting to the narrow Democratic ascendency seen before two presidential nominating conventions.

I'm still very curious as to why people from the Moonie Paper (Washington Times) are so prevalent on the talking head shows.   It has a daily circulation of just over 100,000 so it's not even on the list of top 100 dailies anymore.   It's been eclipsed by the Wichita Eagle and the Knoxville News Sentinel (fine newspapers, I'm sure).   But how often do you see them represented on C-SPAN?

It's not a 'going concern'; it's a propaganda tool, hemorrhaging money.... $3 Billion since the early '80s.

Ok, so I'm taking bets on which John McCain we'll see next week.

Will we see reaching across the aisles John with Leiberman? Or will be see pander to the right John with Palin.

Will we see experience is vital McCain, or experience doesn't matter McCain (picking Palin)?

Will we see economy fundamentally strong or economy fundamentally weak McCain?

Will we see free-market McCain or regulation McCain?

Will we see Wall Street good McCain or Wall Street bad McCain?

Will we see cutting taxes for corporation McCain, or in there with the workers McCain?

Will we see 'I don't know the economy McCain', or 'I've taken on tougher guys than this McCain?'

Flip-flop John, Flip-flop.

You picked an empty suit, controlled by the most liberal and dispicable people, to run against the weakest republican position in quite some time. And yet the republican will still be chosen.

McCain Speechwriter Trying To Write Lines That Don't Lead To Creepy Smile

September 2, 2008 | Issue 44•36

PHOENIX, AZ—According to campaign sources, Joseph Chappel, a 38-year-old speechwriter for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), has spent the last two weeks attempting to combine words and phrases in such a way as to not provoke a tight-jawed, dead-eyed smile from the presidential hopeful.

McCain/Palin!!!!
Let me start out by saying I'm a McCain/Palin supporter. That Speechwriter thing is funny, but you've got to understand the man has had facial cancer, I think more than once.

Has anyone seen his video when he was released from capture? He doesn't look like the same man. Even if you don't want him to be president, and I can't see why, you've got to respect the man, what he went through and how he stayed a POW when offered an early release. He's got integrity and a high moral code when it comes to his country.

He's reversed himself on so many core issues that he's called his own integrity into question ---- He used to say that gaining the presidency wasn't worth doing that.

And the selection of a smalltown mayor to back up a 72-year-old as president leads me to suspect his sanity.

What original thoughts on the current fiscal crisis can we attribute to Palin?   What are her thoughts on Ossetia?   Iraq?   Iran?   Nuclear proliferation in general?   A resurgent Russia??

They All Flip Flop
tilt, those are more important topics for the candidate for president to answer and Obama is not up to speed on anything. He has no idea what's going on and I think has learned most of it as he's been running.

They've both done reversals. It's the nature of the beast to twist things, change their mind, and perhaps tell a lie or two.

I don't put either candidate on a pedestal. They're human (& politicians) and will do whatever it takes to become president.

A big issue is that Obama says he will get troops out immediately from Iraq. Now that is a very big issue and a reason for many to vote for him, BUT, then he says he has to see what's going on at the ground level, which is the correct answer, but not his first and the reason people may have wanted to vote for him.

If you like the shape the country is in ---- vote Republican.   If you think Palin is in any way prepared to run the country...   I'm afraid you're dreaming.   I don't think she has the first clue.

If you think Obama said he will withdraw troops immediately --- you're ill-informed (Fox?).   If you listen to what he says (and I spend more time watching C-SPAN than any 'news' channel), you see he IS up to speed.   Does McCain sound up to speed on the economy to you?

Did you happen to see the roundtable on CNN last night with Frank Sesno, Christiane Amanpour and the former Secretaries of State?   From all I've seen and heard (out of their own mouths) Obama, Biden and McCain could hold their own with Baker, Albright, Kissinger, Christopher or Powell on foreign policy matters.

I will not run down John McCain.
Here's one big reason, though, that he should not be in the White House.
He, and his Republican legislators have had the majority in the House, Senate, and had control of the White House for many years now. The judiciary tilts heavily toward the right.
Now, with the shape of the economy and the war in Afghanistan, (remember, where Osama Bin Laden is????), do you think the Republicans deserve to be rewarded with 4 more years at the helm???
I guess it would be kinda like the CEO's who wreck their companies then bail out with millions. A "family values" kind of thing.

I don't want to run down McCain, but this isn't the same man.

I'm just amazed how he's sold himself out to the fools we've had in the whitehouse for the past eight years. And the lies his campaign are telling are getting crazy.

I know he's got an uphill struggle against events, but to turn to, and then go further than, the Rove campaign which targeted him in 2000 doesn't say much for him.

His choice of Caribou Barbie for VP doesn't say much for his integrity either. He knows she's not up to it.

Agents with the FBI served a federal search warrant at the Fort Sanders residence of David Kernell early Sunday morning. Kernell lives in the Commons apartment complex at 1115 Highland Ave.

David Kernell is the son of Mike Kernell, a Democratic state representative from Memphis.

But if we want to talk seriously for a minute - she's not up to the job is she. She's such a lightweight it's an insult to expect smart women to vote for her.

Perhaps if you're a pentecostal Christian and you think she's channeling god, but no other reason is there.

Yeah Dunadan, your democrat congress is just ripping Washington up making changes. About the ONLY thing they are doing the slimeball stuff that got the republicans outted like holding open votes past the time limits and refusing to give the minority any floor time. And that is why their approval rating is worse than Bush's.

But what about all their ambitious plans for their first 100 days? They were gonna burn the midnight oil and change this country. What'd they do? Nothing. As we paid $4 a gallon for gas all summer they took their five week break and went on vacation.

Well let's examine your veto claim y2. Let's look at past presidents veto records and see how accurate your statement is.

Nixon 43
Ford 66
Carter 31
Reagan 78
Bush Sr. 44
Bill Clinton 37
Bush Jr. 0

Bush Jr. is set to be the first president in 175 who has never used a veto once.

My bad. The artical was from 7-26-04.

Factcheck.org says,

According to the U.S. Senate, George W. Bush has issued nine vetoes. All nine have come during his second term in office. That’s the second-lowest total of any administration since the start of the 20th century. Warren G. Harding, whose fatal heart attack in 1923 limited his term to just two years, issued six vetoes.

Still, he is hardly the cockblocker y2 seems to think he is.
Nigal

Well Nigal you also have to look at the fact that the Democrats can't force things through. The majority in the senate isn't many votes.

And can you make any points without saying... but but but the Democrats, Obama.....?
Y2

they have a majority. Bush barely ever vetoes. The democrats have the purse strings for Iraq and could squeeze Bush if they weren't squabbling among themselves
