WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democrat Barack Obama topped two key national polls Thursday which showed the financial crisis reverberating through the White House race and "Palin power" fading for the Republican ticket.

The Democratic hopeful, who has been lacerating rival John McCain over his capacity to rescue the US economy, led 49 to 45 percent in a new poll of likely voters nationwide by Quinnipiac University.

In a CBS/New York Times survey, Obama was up by 48 percent to 43 percent, with the race apparently reverting to the narrow Democratic ascendency seen before two presidential nominating conventions.”

I don't put either candidate on a pedestal. They're human (& politicians) and will do whatever it takes to become president.

A big issue is that Obama says he will get troops out immediately from Iraq. Now that is a very big issue and a reason for many to vote for him, BUT, then he says he has to see what's going on at the ground level, which is the correct answer, but not his first and the reason people may have wanted to vote for him.”

Did you happen to see the roundtable on CNN last night with Frank Sesno, Christiane Amanpour and the former Secretaries of State?   From all I've seen and heard (out of their own mouths) Obama, Biden and McCain could hold their own with Baker, Albright, Kissinger, Christopher or Powell on foreign policy matters.
