I've got this thing
I got to keep it sharp
Don't take it places
It won't shine in the dark

All your lovin'
Long blond hair
Don't let them take me
Cause I easily scare

Take it back
Take it back
Take that thing
Right outta here

.....or something like that

Fuji is a fun hike. There are lots of good hikes in the Japanese alps. If you take a train around Honshu (the main Island) consider visiting Hagi, Kusahsiki and Kyoto - as well as Hiroshima. A trip to Fuji can be combined with a visit to Lake Hakone and the Hakone open air art museum. Look for special deals on lodging, Japan rail passes and consider staying at hostels to save bucks.

The trip to Hakone, the art museum and Fuji is especially fun if you take different kinds of transportation - like the cable car and the rope way. This url seems to have some good info on transport in the Hakone area and may provide a good deal (I don't know): http://www.odakyu-group.co.jp/english/freepass/hakone_01.htm

Have you climbed Fuji? What's it like climbing-wise? It kinda looks boring... switchbacks? Straight incline?

I've done Fuji twice from opposite sides, as a kid (12 years old and then with my kids alnmost 30 years later). If you take the bus to the 5th station, everything you hike is above tree line. On a nice day, the views are incredible - wear sun block and don't forget your ears (unless they are protected by a wide hat).

Lot's of switch backs on Fuji. Lot's of places to stop and rest - to buy food, even spend the night. There are ten stations and all of the ones past the bus stop have multiple Inns/huts.

The long flight there won't be so bad. ScorchFire will be filled with anticipation and excitement. The long flight home, on the other hand, will suck. She'll have just left her b.f., have to go home instead of all the excitement of Japan and the flight will seem to take forever to get home.

But hey, have fun ScorchFire.

the trip home always sucks, cause the hike is over the friends are gone and all you have to look forward to immediately is work.

until you plan the next hike.

The flight back is faster though, thanks to the Jet Stream. When I went over, the flight back was two hours shorter.

They're all jealous!
Naw, don't listen to them Scorchy.
The ride home doesn't have to be unpleasant.

You'll still be on a major high and having fresh flashbacks of all the things you just saw and did, and you'll still be reeling from culture shock. Play with your digital pictures, bring some electronic toys ('puter, mp3, etc...), maybe write up your trip reports.

Kick off your shoes and have a few drinks and reflect, you're still on vacation until you drive down Bristol Road!

Revel in the fact that for a short time, you may have perhaps been the tallest person in the country!

Just relax, enjoy the ride!

I saw that but didn't rent it. I have to pass all possible rentals through my mental "wife filter".

Tonight I rented "Love Actually"

My wife was less than thrilled with the porno scenes.

Roam, I later figured out that they were really body double scenes for sex scenes in a real movie. It's very funny actually, but you probably shouldn't watch it with your kids around.
