The dates have been changed to May 7-9th. We could use a few more people. If anyone just wants to do the Saturday night part you could hike into Giant Ledge 3-4 miles and meet us.” 10:36:39 AM 4/07/04 “It is amazing how fast an actual trip thread drops to the bottom.” 12:44:56 PM 4/07/04 “I won't be going on this one.” 1:40:08 PM 4/07/04 “too bad Must hike how come?” 1:53:28 PM 4/07/04 “Can't make it Friday and Mothers Day on Sunday.” 2:14:25 PM 4/07/04 “Sunday we are going to bug out pretty quick so Pennsy and I can get home.” 4:09:21 PM 4/07/04 “Bastards.” 4:52:33 PM 4/07/04 “Artex, now that I know about the thing you have no reason to call us names you bastard!” 7:39:49 PM 4/07/04 “Artex, you watch your tongue, you farging icehole you! Come on Must Bail.... do what you have to do to take off Friday, and we're leaving early on Sunday for Mom's Day. Twiggy - call in sick. Zac - you want me to check our local EMS for the Catskills guide book and maps?” 8:40:02 PM 4/07/04 “Pennsy thanks for the offer, but I just bought the ADK guidebook for the Catskill Region and LtHiker emailed me a map of where we are hiking so I think I'm all set.” 8:48:01 PM 4/07/04 “Jumping in as a maybe. :) I'd say, better than even at this point. (As long as it isn't cold or raining...) j/k, sounds like a great time.” 9:42:56 AM 4/21/04 “Since I'm going on this trip you can count on it being cold and rainy or at least on of the two.” 9:45:25 AM 4/21/04 “You sure you want to go Zac? Sounds good Fritz” 1:04:54 PM 4/21/04 “I'm over do for good weather.” 1:07:15 PM 4/21/04 “Realistically, what time do you expect to be off the trail on Sunday?” 7:54:42 AM 4/25/04 “Fritz, it is about 5-6 miles out on Sunday. If we roll out at 8 or 9am I would guess 10 or 11. It is not a hard hike out.” 9:16:05 AM 4/25/04 “Man, this is my favorite hike in the Catskills. You guys will have a blast. .YOU BASTARDS!!!!.” 9:19:59 AM 4/25/04 “Fritz knowing how fast you hike i am sure you will be out faster than me. Artex, i can pick you up at the airport.” 9:22:31 AM 4/25/04 Fast? “That was a year ago...when I was young...” 10:45:29 AM 4/25/04 “Thanks LtHiker.. but the thing is heating up, and preps are being made. You all still suck! Bastards!” 11:38:53 AM 4/25/04 “Thanks LtHiker.. but the thing is heating up Artex 11:38:53 AM 04/25/04 Dude! Try using a lubricant?” 3:47:36 PM 4/25/04 “Adventurist, the man is all talk...and half of that is invisible text... He doesn't need a lubricant, he needs a rust remover.” 12:59:19 AM 4/26/04 “I need lots of things. The curse of the Yukon has now been cast upon Fritz and Adventurist.” 2:38:36 AM 4/26/04 “Hey LT - ya bringin' your Turkey Tea on this trip. I haven't been around this site for a long time, but popped in to see you guys are doin' one of my very favorite hikes. Two points that I hope help: 1) I don't know about early May conditions, but I know for certain that by early June there is absolutely no water to be found from the point of leaving Woodland to the spring 2/3rds of the way up Slide. Wittenburg & Cornell are really dry. I camped once in the col between Cornell & Slide and had to searh for & filter a mud puddle. Since then, because of the lack of water, I've day hiked this loop maybe 4 or 5 times - long, exhausting, but so fun, and each time I carried more water than any trip I've ever done. 2) You'll probably get there before black fly season starts - but be forewarned that no where else in the Cats...or in NY...or arguably on Earth...are the black flies worse than on part of Wittenburg and then all around Cornell. Don't know why they're so freakishly concentrated there, but I've seen people go completely mad from 'em. I really think in early May you'll be gettin' there just before they launch, but if you delay your trip at all, or if we get any freakish hot weather before your trip (first 85+ late spring day launches 'em), bring plenty of bug spray & head nets!! But if early May provides enough water (that's iffy), cool temps, & no blackies, you & the crew are gonna have an absolute great, fun time. Wish I could join ya, but I'm caught up in too many things right now.” 11:32:13 AM 4/26/04 “Whose Turkey Tea ?!?” 3:37:17 PM 4/26/04 “LOL I have always given Capn Bobo credit for his TnT.” 8:56:04 AM 4/27/04 “Is there room for one more on this trip? Group Sigh.....” 2:53:45 PM 4/27/04 “Always room for a Bobo!” 3:59:36 PM 4/27/04 “Sure, there is always room for a newbie. ;o) Fritz - I need to be on the road no later than 10, so I will be hitting the trail early, between 7-7:30. It would be great if you can make it. We might need another hand to look after the newbie known as Bobo.” 4:14:45 PM 4/27/04 “Do you think this Bobo character has any real hiking experience?” 7:20:53 PM 4/27/04 For What It's Worth “Oh, hello Mr. Phantom Soul, I dropped by to pick up a beer-ball For the thought that I caught that LT's hike is the event of the season Why in crowds just a trace of Pennsy's face could seem so pleasin' I'll cop out to the change, but lumberzac is putting the tease on. I'm in!!!” 10:27:46 PM 4/27/04 “YAY!” 8:42:01 PM 4/28/04 “Hey Bobo. I don't believe I've met you yet, in fact, I haven't met most of the people on this trip. (Wahoo -- more new people to meet!) I'll be dropping in on Giant Ledge on Saturday. Too bad I can't make the earlier part of the trip -- sounds like a blast.” 10:57:06 PM 4/28/04 “Glad your making it Bobo! It has been awhile since I have seen you on a the trail. I already got some 101 packed!” 9:50:46 AM 4/29/04 “pennsy how are you going on this trip and then Hawk Mt? you are a trip slut!” 10:07:24 AM 4/29/04 “Mapleleaf, this trip is next weekend.” 10:11:00 AM 4/29/04 “April 30 - May 2?” 10:16:00 AM 4/29/04 “5/7 - 5/9/04” 11:25:38 AM 4/29/04 “P.Soul - looking forward to meeting you as well! I just hope Pennsy hasn't already brainwashed you or you may need to be deprogrammed on Sat. night... LT - If you're bringing the 101 then I'll bring somefin' to sip on, if that's OK with you. I'm still not sure if I'll be taking off work Friday or heading up on Saturday morning. when I know I'll let y'all know.” 11:45:34 AM 4/29/04 “80 proof and above work best for deprogramming.” 11:53:02 AM 4/29/04 “so when is this trip?” 11:53:46 AM 4/29/04 “Look back 4 posts.” 11:55:26 AM 4/29/04 “oh darn, need glasses.” 11:55:52 AM 4/29/04 “Maple the dates got changed a while ago. Bobo, I was thinking about the TNT and with the limited water maybe a sippin drink would be better.” 12:36:35 PM 4/29/04 “OH ........ We'll find water for the TNT, even if I have to suck it out of the surrounding vegetation! Bring the Turkey, and the Turkey will sent us Free!!!” 10:09:11 PM 5/02/04 “Maps say there's water sources between Cornell and Slide, as well as one at Giant Ledge. If these are all dry in Mid-May, we're in for a really rough summer...” 11:24:57 PM 5/02/04 “You can always bushwack down to Neversink River, located south of of the col. We did this during a VERY dry period last year, and found water. The riverbed was dry at first, but after going down the mountain some, we found some small pools suitable for filtering.” 1:16:38 AM 5/03/04 << back to Catskills Loop page
