The southern section looked pretty cool. That place will be backed on Columbus Day weekend for sure. Maybe the trip should start from the bottom so that we can avoid skyline drive.

No, the trip will not start from the bottom, sorry. I will soon post the trip it will be the Rockytop/Big Run loop. This is another strenuos trip that is recommended for experienced hikers only. And we'll camp near the spot where ENS saw his first bear! This will essentially be the same thing we did this weekend except we will go over Rocktop instead of Rocky Mountain an Brown Mountain. How does that sound?

Ths is a great thread. In fact I just added it to my favorites. If I weren't hiking in the Adks this weekend I'd go to SNP. Robertson Mtn is pretty cool. Are you going up the fire road of death?

I'd be starting Saturday morning about 9 or 10 am, It'd be about a 9 mile hike, and then a short hike out Sunday morning.

Looks like parts of Skyline drive are closed at night to thwart poachers...

that won't affect this hike the trailhead is at the Old Rag trailhead.

no problem with backcountry camping during this time - just be sure to get a free toetag ... errr ... permit before you camp in the backcountry
