Gremlin seeks adviceView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 20 of 20 messages posted.
Here's the drill: “Spring is almost here and I'm getting wanderlust. My students are doing a research paper on a dream place they'd like to visit and so we are (I am) spending a lot of time in the library on the internet. I also have material on the International Youth Hostelling Association and I have been daydreaming about going some place completely different for a couple of weeks this summer. It can't be expensive and I'm even daydreaming about taking a Greyhound bus and staying in a hostel. Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and New Orleans come to mind, but, knowing myself, I'll need some serious trekking possibilities nearby. This brings me to Alberta, British Columbia, Colorado, Montan, et c. Any ideas?” 12:54:22 PM 3/12/04 “Do they let old farts like us stay in Youth Hostels? It does sound like fun though.” 12:55:56 PM 3/12/04 “Bit just wants to ogle the young girls...” 12:57:06 PM 3/12/04 “Arcadia NP, Maine” 12:57:51 PM 3/12/04 “Well, HELL YAH!” 1:00:30 PM 3/12/04 “If yo want trekking nearby nothing beats Nepal. Although I heard that flights to Spain can be had cheap right now.” 1:02:07 PM 3/12/04 “Nope, hostels are open to everyone now. Can you climb Orizaba (Mexico) in the summer?” 1:06:36 PM 3/12/04 “grem, ive been to Marthas vineyard. its a great place to rent bikes and play around. if your looking to backpack it, not sure if you will find it that exciting. its not a cheap island. night life in ziltch. dont get me wrong, i loved it so much we went back twice. im a sucker for an island. something so different on islands to mainlands. if your looking to get jiggy, go to NO. but if you go to MV, let me know and i am sure i can find my info for you and try to help out as much as i can. whats the saying "springtime turns a young mans fancy to woman" not us backpackers, spring turns our minds to mountains..” 1:18:33 PM 3/12/04 “mountain women that is.” 1:29:20 PM 3/12/04 “swimmin pools, movie stars” 1:43:38 PM 3/12/04 “Arcadia: A mountainous and picturesque district of Greece, in the heart of the Peloponnesus, whose people were distinguished for contentment and rural happiness. Perhaps lumberzac refers to Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, Maine.” 1:44:17 PM 3/12/04 “Spell check screwed me over. lol” 1:46:35 PM 3/12/04 “Do some hut-hopping around Mount Blanc, you speak some wierd variant of French, don't you?!?” 1:48:48 PM 3/12/04 “bruce penninnsula? up to high dump (no comments please all you sickies) along to the cypress lake, then catch a ride back to your car. on second thought- maybe not the best destination in spring--the escarpment will still be icey.” 1:52:16 PM 3/12/04 “how about a fossil dig at dino prov park? that would be fun.” 1:55:02 PM 3/12/04 “Fossil? Gremlin is old, but not terribly old.” 1:56:43 PM 3/12/04 “How is der wulf, herr Gremlin? I am going to Wolf Gap, WVa. How's that for a sore spot?” 1:59:38 PM 3/12/04 “I recommend a weekend spent exploring the areas around Mons Vernus.” 2:01:29 PM 3/12/04 “nicaragua is very cheap, but you may have to fly in to San Juan and take public transportation up.” 2:01:31 PM 3/12/04 “Violin, checkin' out The Beetle Bonnet is good time as well.” 2:07:55 PM 3/12/04
