What did the message say? And are you sure you typed it right? I get e-mail in on that address daily... so am just wondering. I get probably anywhere from 5 to 10 e-mails a day on it, religiously.

So let me know what it told you... and like I said, are you sure you were typing straight? I saw a lot of bad typing on your part yesterday, real Ice tea-ish. LOL!

OK, I think I know what happened. Apparently my e-mail for this website is set up for my SECOND TO LAST "real" email, which was @fbx.com

I think that's the one that's bouncing back. The yahoo one should be working. I need to have Matt change addy.

lizs, I'll go this route as well as sort out the e-mail (it says REMOVE THIS in the middle of your address under your profile). Anyway, check the Namekagon by Canoe thread and see if it fits your schedule.

Will check. Thanks!

Lizs
See you for lunch tomorrow, right?

I'll be leaving Lake Elmo shortly after 8 AM. I have to wait until the office opens at 8 to get a gate pass key refund. I should arrive in your town by 12 noon or, most likely, earlier.

In order, I will try to be at the following places, if possible:
1. Hooters
2. the town aquare
3. in front of the city hall or administration building
4. at the library
5. the main intersection in town.

I'll be driving a '95, black, 240-SX Nisson, 2 doors (one on each side).

I'll try to check a computer later today, but it may not be possible. Boy, I can hardly wait to make a pass at you. But, wait! I forgot to bring my pills. Drat!

Be safe. Have a great trip!

hey liz

SD was awesome. it was really remote, closest town was buffalo, 20 miles away. population 300 but it did have a pay shower in the gas station that we hit a couple times.
we car camped in the slim buttes area for 6 days. the buttes are wicked cool, they seem so strange poking up out of nowhere.

just miles and miles of flat prairie and then bam, these neat rocky cliffs and spires, then on the other side - nothing but miles and miles of prairie again. all i could think of was a tiny piece of southern utah or arizona got misplaced. from the bluffs you can watch pronghorn and deer running around all day long - and yes, the whole week i kept singing in my head - where the deer and the antelope play. IMO, the black hills and badlands are beautiful too, but they have nothing on the slim buttes except the hundreds of thousands of more visitors per year.

never scored anything hunting, but we're already making plans for going back next year the same time. sneaking up on pronghorn with nothing but 3 blades of grass between you and him is pretty dam hard! i did manage to get 45 yards from one, but it was pretty windy that day so i didn't attempt the shot.

never went to the cave hills, but thats where all that nasty stuff is and ever since i saw project X, radiation scares the hell outta me.

Cool! I think the crew looking for rock art did Slim Buttes one year.

Yeah, I keep reading about the Cave Hills. One guy on our PIT crew two years ago, probably in his 40s, said he took his bride on their honeymoon a couple years previous and they had stayed in the Cave Hills for like a week! AACK! And our rock art expert, originally from Custer, said their family had hung out in the Cave Hills a bit when young, which she kinda kicks herself for now, and wonders about the effects.

There's supposed to be a lot of rock art in the Cave Hills, too. (Well, I would guess if the Indians needed respite from the hot plains, they would go there. Makes good enough sense!) There's a Ludlow Cave, where apparently Ludlow, on Custer's crew, had signed his name. Once, a geocacher sent me a bunch of coordinates for cool Cave Hills stuff.

I'll have to get to Slim Buttes. It's a pretty small area, right? And I know it's NOT the Slim Buttes where there was some big Indian battle, that is in/near Pine Ridge Reservation. It's part of the Custer National Forest. I got to see some farflung Custer Forest locations when I drove through the nothingness of SE Montana this summer, from Little Bighorn Battlefield on down to Devil's Tower.

LOL, I went into NW Nebraska briefly this past summer, too, and saw mule deer plus, on one backroad, saw a hawk chase a badger across it. Too cool!

If you like remote, keep SW SD in mind, too. Like you, I like getting away from the SD crowds.

Thanks for the report! Wish you would have gotten a pronghorn, but hey, it's a good excuse to go back. hehehee...

size of the area- its about 3 miles wide, about 20 miles long. so its not really huge, but its bigger than a bread box.

i read about that slim buttes sioux battle when doing research. i thought it was the same area(?)

i did that SE Montana/Little Bighorn Battlefield/ Devil's Tower drive a few years ago too. i wish i had taken a detour to the slim buttes then.

OOPS! Looks like you are correct on that one!

There is a town and a physical feature called Slim Butte on the western most part of the Pine Ridge Reservation, almost on the Nebraska line.

I most have googled it when I was first in that area... and then, gotten confused. (so haaaaaaaard to imagine!! LOL)

How'd ya lose your camera?
