Radnor Lake State Park - today
I wanted to get out on the trail pretty bad this weekend. With my fall last week, I figured I would take it easy this week. I decided to go to Radnor Lake State park in south Nashville.

One of the greatest things about Radnor Lake is that its right smack dab in the middle of a big metro area and when you are there you can hardly tell.

Despite an overcast afternoon, the weather today was downright lovely. Once could clearly see that spring was on the horizon.

The park was abound with the sights and smells of an early spring Sunday afternoon.

The park is set in the rolling hills that surround Radnor Lake. The hills are the highest points in Nashville/Davidson County. Radnor Lake was built by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad to for water in which to fill their locomotive tenders. I am guessing that the forest was logged extensively.

I parked in the west parking lot, next to the visitor center and did all of the trails in the park. It works out to be a figure 8 and is roughly 5.5 miles. This is a great place for a quick getaway. You can loop around the lake and you get to climb to 350 foot hills.

Everytime I go here I see deer, turtles, tons of birds and squirrels. Today was no exception. Alot of people report that there are alot of snakes, but I hardly ever see any snakes there.

The squirrels don't like getting their photos taken. They were darting in every direction as I walked down the trail.

The frogs were out and singing along the lake edges. I wasn't able to see them though. I saw some turtles hanging out on a log. There were two deer grazing as I climbed up Ganer Ridge. The forest bottom was green with spring plants and even some flowers were beginning to bloom.

Spring is right around the corner. I'm really glad too.

Sounds like a nice day. I spent the day grilling burgers, playing horse shoes & playing music with my family.Just your typical Hill Billy/Redneck weekend!

frogs make pretty cool noises. The birds were singing alot too. I saw alot of brilliantly red cardinals out today. I took it as a sign that the St. Louis Cardinals (my favorate baseball team) will win the world series this year.

I've never seen so many Yuppies in one park in all my life as Radnor Lake. It took about 2 time hiking there and that was all my stomach could handle. They actually closed one trail to those rich fuks cause a tree had fell and was laying across the trail. I guess they didn't want them to risk the possibility of getting their designer clothes dirty.
I gotta say though, If it wasn't for the yuppies, It would have been an OK place.

She's feeling a lot better. I still gotta make her take it easy. The muscle relaxers fool her into thinking she's OK and she tries to over do it. The next day she's soar again. LOL! She'll learn.

you're right about the yuppies. I think people go there to jog and get a workout and put on cologne to do it.

I almost always see a deer there.

My goddamned water's still frozen. Thank Gawd for the locker room and showers at school. There is still snow across the streams where I live, although water is now flowing in the valley where my school is. Smoke is everywhere from maple sugaring so spring will come sometime - we're a long way from hearing peepers in the pond beside my place, though.

How is spring where you live? This is the first spring in Indiana in a long time that we've actually had a spring. It usually just goes from winter right into summer. Beautiful days with highs in the 60s and just the right amount of rain. Perfect hiking weather.

Spring appears to be arriving early this year. Here's a picture from last April, taken by the Sentinel Dome Webcam (http://www.yosemite.org/vryos/sentinelcam.htm):

Here's a view from the same spot today:

Was there 3000 feet of snow last year?

Kinda looks that way, huh. I think it was just really deep (about 10-12 feet deeper) right next to the camera. Trails should be open a lot sooner this year, anyway. And less mosquitos in August, too - woo hoo!!

The tulips that were refrigerated for a couple of months are now poking up through the mud in the back yard. Even if they don't bloom they're pretty. The leaves are variegated, with red margins. Of course we're getting lows back down in the 20s tomorrow night.

Hooray for SPRING!
I woke up this morning to the most beautiful birdsong and the lady on the radio saying to expect 6-8 inches of snow today. =P
But, the crocus are blooming and I know the snow will melt eventually.

Nothing like digging crocuses out of the snowdrift so you can enjoy them, huh?

;D

I have lots of shallots coming up, and the Maximilian sunflower I got has grown at least an inch since yesterday. Yay!
