LOL dayhiker! Can ya help me out with a few simple structures problems? Guessed "c" all the way down on the last test, and scored a 56%, which isn't too bad I guess! I'm on my 4th and last try. Gotta work on my geotech and traffic skills too.

Between working 45+hrs a week, taking one grad class, and studying 20hrs a week for this test, I got no time to sit back and breathe!

By last try do you mean that Michigan won't let you take it again or that you'll go in a different direction.

I know a branch manager of a geotech firm that isn't a PE and the overall Pres of that firm isn't a PE either.

I would recommend picking one or two topics seperate from where you practice to study. Do certain things really well instead of doing all of it so/so (your actual practice area excepted). Take that with a grain of salt though. I know the format has changed since I took it.

My degree is enviromental engineer, and I scored a 100% in the morning on the environmental stuff last time I took the test. But, the sturctures and geotech stuff killed me. I got a 68 overall, and need a 70 to pass. My intention is to learn some of that other stuff, hope I do as well on the stuff I do know how to do, and pray hard.

As far as this being my last time, its that I'm not going to put myself through this misery anymore. I figure 4 times is plenty. I am moving in a different direction, but I wanted to have the P.E. behind my name, just so that I could say I accomplished that. It would really feel like the first big accomplishment of my life. I've never worked so hard for something, yet it keeps alluding me. I will be very disappointed if I don't pass, as I was last time, but I can honestly say I did my absolute best, and it just wasn't meant to be.

So near but so far Smiley. Keep going with it - it sounds like it's within reach.

Keep up the hard work, smiley - I have a feeling it will pay off this time. Do you need help with any traffic studying? That's what I've been doing for the past 15 years or so.

Sorry to hear that you're stressed out - positive thoughts comin' yer way!

Sincerely,
BowlderMan, P.E.

PS to dayhiker: So you're a civil PE, too?! Man, this board's teeming with civils....

Let me know if I can help you with structures in any way.

Isn't there an environmental specific exam? I'm pretty sure there is. If you mainly practice environmental and if Michigan recognizes it then I'd give that a go in October, if April doesn't work out. I don't think I could pass the general civil exam as it's currently given.

Y-squared, yes, I know you're just joking. Its cool, no worries.

Bowlder Man, I know nothing about the HCM other than its the big green binder on the shelf. I need to study some traffic stuff tonight. I just need to figure out how to use the tables for LOS/capacity analysis.

DH - I'm a pseudo-enviromental engineer. I work for a civil company, and have done a litte bit of road design work, etc. The strict environmental exam covers health and safety, air quality, and some other stuff I haven't seen or done in 8+years. At least with some off this civil stuff, I have resources available to help me study.

Thanks for the well wishes, now back to cookie dough!! I think that it will be the perfect 2PM snack today!

OK, smiley - as I often tell citizen groups when I make presentations about projects, "It's not rocket science; it's just traffic." If you run into some trouble/confusion, feel free to email me:

I've been really trying to live within myself lately. I speak slowly in a low voice to my students. I turn the lights on low. I try not to talk more than necessary. And if a stressful situation arises, I try to let all of the energy in my body dissipate before addressing it.

It has been a stressful school year, but finding my inner zen has been helping quite a bit.

Remember, RL.....

Speak roughly to your little boy,
And beat him when he sneezes:
He only does it to annoy,
Because he knows it teases.

Chorus (In which the cook and the baby joined):--
Wow! wow! wow!

I speak severely to my boy,
And beat him when he sneezes:
For he can thoroughly enjoy
The pepper when he pleases

Chorus:
Wow! wow! wow!
