Teacher gets nailed in court, after nailing 14-year-old. Her story made the headlines before, now she's back because she pleaded guilty.

I'm sure their union rep will get them off.

Only if the union rep was 14, evidently.

A veteran Hillsboro elementary schoolteacher faces two felony counts for trying to sell a student's winter coat on eBay, Hillsboro police said this morning.

Elizabeth Logan, 41, a first-grade teacher at Jackson Elementary, has been indicted on theft by receiving and a computer crime, both felonies. Efforts to reach Logan this morning were unsuccessful.

This morning, Cmdr. Chris Skinner described the strange circumstances leading to Logan's arrest:

Police got involved in the case in January after a Jackson Elementary mother reported finding her daughter's winter coat on eBay. The girl's coat had turned up missing at school, so the mom turned to the online auction site to replace it.

The mom, who police did not identify, found the same coat -- a Columbia Sportswear ski jacket -- on the online auction. She noticed that the seller and another bidder were also from Hillsboro.

The mom suspected the coat was her daughter's and alerted the other bidder that she might be bidding on a stolen item.

That bidder, apparently a friend of the seller, notified the seller about the mom's suspicion. Skinner said the seller, who turned out to be Logan, tried to rig the bids by telling her friend to outbid the mom.

In an even odder turn, the coat was damaged by the seller's dog and curiously ended up on the Jackson playground.

And that's when the mom called the cops.

Police launched an investigation, digging into eBay records and e-mails about the strange transaction. They learned the seller was Logan and uncovered a paper trail showing the teacher had tried to rig the bid.

Skinner said Logan denies stealing the coat. She said she got it from lost-and-found. Skinner said cops concluded the child's coat was never in lost-and-found.

"All we know is the child was away from her coat for 20 minutes," Skinner said.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables.

The mock attack Thursday night was intended as a learning experience and lasted five minutes during the weeklong trip to a state park, said Scales Elementary School Assistant Principal Don Bartch, who led the trip.

“We got together and discussed what we would have done in a real situation,” he said.

But parents of the sixth-grade students were outraged.

“The children were in that room in the dark, begging for their lives, because they thought there was someone with a gun after them,” said Brandy Cole, whose son went on the trip.

Some parents said they were upset by the staff’s poor judgment in light of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech that left 33 students and professors dead, including the gunman.

During the last night of the trip, staff members convinced the 69 students that there was a gunman on the loose. They were told to lie on the floor or hide underneath tables and stay quiet. A teacher, disguised in a hooded sweat shirt, even pulled on a locked door.

After the lights went out, about 20 kids started to cry, 11-year-old Shay Naylor said.

“I was like, ‘Oh My God,’ “ she said. “At first I thought I was going to die. We flipped out.”

Principal Catherine Stephens declined to say whether the staff members involved would face disciplinary action, but said the situation “involved poor judgment.”

When we were at Philmont, the staffers staged a ficticous midnight indian raid. It was very cool!

But this seems like really poor judgement...

So the principal didn't even know about it? Seems like somewhat of a big "practice" to not let others in the event.

That was a really boneheaded thing to do.

In some jurisdictions threatening others even with a fake fire arm can be prosecuted as the real thing.

LOL..imagine if a parent had been carrying a concealed weapon...BANG BANG BANG BANG> And the numbers of Government Educators is thankfully thinned.

You can be sure the Teacher's Unions will support these teachers...since we know the main purpose of unions is to support incompetence.
