orrrrrr - since the earth's geomagnetic powers have been in a period of decline over the past few dozen years....maybe there is another extinction going on - the cause being independant of humans but the eccaberation (sp?) being due to humans.....

see, i thinkback in the day....there were several things going on at the same time of the mass extinctions - massive continental drift, increased volcanic activity, increased solar flares or something oozing out high quantities of plasma, coupled with a magnetic reversal...
could possible have lead to the mass extinction and then after time an evolutionary bloom (geomagnetic reversal funkin' up our DNA and some sort of radioactive thingy)
