That trail is a great hike up the creek, couple of nice waterfalls and big pools - prolly too cold for a swim though.

Walnut Bottoms is a real nice campsite too.

“Tango it's on the east side..go in at Waterville off I40..that's why I made Fri nite camp at Big Creek so it wouldn't be a hike in for those who can come Fri nite the campsite is at the parking area.Hope you can make it..

That is a nice hike up to walnut Bottoms. You dayhiking up to My Sterling the next day? Now that is a nice hill to climb. I can't remember exactly but isn't it like 4000' elevation gain in 5-6 miles.”

I do plan on going to the tower as a day hike on Fri after I set up camp..yes it is 4,000 ft in 6 miles..woohoo!! it will be an awesome hike..

Yam..thought I would spread a little trail magic on Friday instead of Sterling..MileMonster and double nickles are planning on reaching the end of the Smokies by the weekend..I think I will drop some stuff at Davenport shelter and go on to do the same at Cosby shelter..maybe I'll run into them..this is so exciting!!!

“That trail head is located near the very small town of Kearnsville..
Coming from Charlotte you take 85S to 321W to 40W get off exit 451 take a left after you get off the exit ramp and go under the bridge.
follow that road beside the creek to the hike..

The first time I hiked in the Smokies I recieved trail magic. A lady at Clingmon's asked if I was a thru-hiker. It was August, so kind of a late start! I said no. She looked disappointed. She asked if any of us had read "A Walk in the Woods". I had. She said that since I'd read the book that I knew how much it meant to her to give us the food. It was a tin of Pepperidge Farms chocolate straws. We'd just hiked up 7 miles and probably 3500' gain to Clingmons. We still had 7 miles and 3500' of loss to the next camp. No one wanted to carry any more weight. Since my pack was probably half the weight of the others, I got to carry the chocolate straws. They tasted gooood that night.”
